I don't know what role this kid played in Seattle but there is a big difference between getting your "Shot" and going some place because they wanted you. It all comes down to confidence, being comfortable in your own skin on the mound. The Sox have had some success with take other teams cast-offs and making them work. Part of it is Coop and part of it is Ozzie's clubhouse. The good news is the Sox entered camp with question marks are around a left handed reliever, the will break camp with a few options. It is good to finally have a team in Chicago that is serious about winning. Cubs? Hawks? Bulls?

QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Probably but I'm sure there is something for PC as well. There is. It is called total recorder. I now have Rooney and Farmers WS winning call as the ring tone for every Cub fan in my address book. Total Recorder Download. The software took no time at all to download and I had the standard trial version in no time. Unless I pay for it ($11) it will play a sound every 1 minute or so in the recording. You can get the full version and record longer files and then chop them up in to sound bites. Very cool.

Are there any such things for Windows?

QUOTE(whitem0nkey @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I have 2 cub friends that are seriously asking them selves why are they still cub fan, and I know that there are more people like them. Every fan of any team asks themselves that question every so often. I know I did of the Sox, the Bears and the Blackhawks at one time or another. The only one that I answered with turning in my fan card was the Hawks. If they win Lord Stanley's cup, I wouldn’t cross the street to see them play. Not until Wirtz is out as the Hawks owner. It has been several years since I had this epiphany and I have never regretted it. As for Sox paraphernalia, I have 5 Sox hats. The black, the black w/Series logo, the green, the official champs (grey and black) and the classic Sox logo circa 70s-80s. The official stays in the closet with the t-shirt (never to be worn) along with the newspapers from the entire post season. Just this last week I was traveling up to Muskegon Michigan to meet a supplier on Friday. While I drove up, I had on my classic black w/Series logo on and had the green on the back dash for the Friday (St. Pat’s) trip home. We stopped for gas once and had dinner at Damon’s in Grand Haven. Each place we stopped, someone said something positive about the Sox. It was a good feeling. I bought a ton of stuff late last year. But the best item I have is something that I did not buy. A friend of my folks kids went around the Beverly/Mt. Greenwood area and took photos of all the retail marquee signs with “Go Sox” or “Congrats Sox” etc. McNally’s, Cork & Kerry, Coaches Corner, Brewbaker’s, the 9th District Police station. …. All the favorite hangouts from my youth. The put them all in a monster poster size picture. When I first saw it, that is when it really sunk in. We were World Champs. No one can take that away.

The only thing I left out was that I don't care if there are 8000 of 80,000 at Comiskey. I don't really come to see or be seen by them. I am more interested in the 9 guys on the grass in front of me. (And the one guy in front of me who takes about 50 shakes at the urinal but that about it).

The park is filled with about 30% tourists, 30% casual/Corp. Cub fans who couldn't tell you what number Ron Santo wore and 30% real baseball fans. The other 10% are crack pots like Ronny 'Woo Woo' Wickers. I wouldn't include Woo as a real fan or even a casual one because when he goes to Wrigley, he goes to work. His job is... sponging off of Cub Fans. Cash, dental work, a movie deal... whatever he can get. I respect the real Cub fans. They know their baseball and know that this year's team is going no where fast. The Sox winning the WS and the lack of response from Cub management for the 2006 season has these fans seriously depressed. When it was the Sox, BoSox and the Cubs with nearly a century of futility, they could live with it. But now, they feel extremely lonely in the crowd of 40k that attend each game. The Trib put in 2100 seats when they should have put in pitchers, hitters, and a new manager. They scalp their own tickets. As a franchise, the club is a disgrace to it’s fans and the city I love. Wrigley is a great place to watch a baseball game… cold beer, decent food and something to do after the game is over. But I will leave that for the tourists and those who play hooky from work for a summer’s afternoon. I would rather see my team win.

Whoever ends up in NO, scratch them off your list of QBs to watch. The Saints plain suck.

Redskins Sign Randle El

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) David Patten - 5'10" Santana Moss- 5'10" Brandon Lloyd- 6'0" Antwaan Randle El- 5'10" This has to be the shortest group of 4 recievers in the NFL. Moss had a great year last year without any help. Patten is consistent. Lloyd put up decent numbers with no offensive line and a bad Rookie QB and El is an "X" factor guy. Your guys grow a little taller when you have tow or three guys on the field who are credible receivers. Each one of these guys is going to see a ton of single coverage. -
Redskins Sign Randle El
My Dixie Normus replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Washington now has Moss II, Brandon Lloyd, David Patten and El. That is a hell of a crew. I think Lloyd might take the number two spot. He is a solid deep route runner which leaves EL and Patten sharing 3 & 4. I just don't know how far Brunnell will be able to throw the ball. It can be pretty tough to drop back when you are using a walker. I don't think the Bears are in need of a WR too badly. I think Bradley steps up and wins the number two spot. -
Bears To Target Randle El

It is over. ESPNews reports that wide receiver free agent Antwaan Randle El has signed with the Washington Redskins. Considering the price tag, I am glad he didn't sign with the Bears. -
This is a big signing for the Vikes. Taylor is a better back than any they have and should walk away with the starting job. Taylor should have a good season but that won't take them to the title. This is still the Bears division to lose at this point.

Bears To Target Randle El

Grossman is only a more seasoned QB than Orton. Long term, and if the Bears don't go another direction, Orton should develop into a good NFL QB. -
Your Favorite Supreme Court Justice

I can't imagine that they talk much about the SCOTUS over on the Cubs boards. Well, I take that back. There is the whole gay marriage thing going on so maybe they do. -
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Inside linebacker versus outside linebacker doesn't really mean anything. Both have plenty of opportunities to make plays. There are reasons that Urlacher is making all that money and Briggs probably won't get that close to it. First, Briggs has only played like this for 2 years, while Brian has for 5 (and I guess another half a year). Second, Briggs doesn't make as many big plays. In the last two years, he has 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 3 picks. Urlacher has 12 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and a pick, and he played in 7 fewer games. Briggs is good, but they're not on the same level. ILBs roam the field and fall into coverage a lot more often whereas the OLBs first job is to contian the outside. OLBs do not generally blitz at the same rate ILBs do. OLBs, even the best, only cover 50% of the field whereas ILBs pursue the ball who ever has it.

What did you do with all the world series stuff
My Dixie Normus replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A neighbors kid went around the area taking pictures of the local marquees of all the businesses with anything Sox on it during the WS run. He put them all into a poster size picture and threw them into three frames. It is the coolest thing I have seen so far. -
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) TE 1. Vernon Davis Maryland 2. Leonard Pope UGA 3. Dominique Byrd USC 4. Marcedes Lewis UCLA 5. Joe Klopfenstein Colorado 6. Anthony Fasano ND Sorry if this has been talked bout already but I would move Lewis up to number 2. He went off in the Senior Bowl and is who I am hoping the Bears get with the 26th pick.

The RB to look out for this year is going to be Steven Jackson in St. Louis. The guy is going to go off the hook the charts this year. If Bush goes to Houston, he won't be as advertised. That offensive line just plan sucks. No one can put a rating on the rookie RBs until you know where they land.
-
I don't see why the Bears shouldn't pay him an Urlacher type contract. They had numbers that were pretty close. If you figure in the that Urlacher is the ILB and Briggs is OLB, that is a pretty amazing thing for Briggs. But Briggs is precisley why the Bears did not go after a LB in the 2005 draft. They have a boat load of cap tied up in Urlacher and they want to tie up a bunch more in Briggs. There was no way they could tie up any more in LBs. When Braylon Edwards came off the board and the could not trade down, they had to take the RB. When Briggs' contract comes up in 2007, the cap should be at about $110M. They will pay him up to but not over what Urlacher gets.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Hey I just wanted to say welcome aboard. In your 3 posts you come off as a really knowledgeable poster. Plus you got a funny monicker. Glad to have ya here Thanks, glad to be here. I used to post over at the MLB boards but the service is such a pain in the arse, I bailed out. Too many jerks from other teams coming in and out. As for the name, I was going to go with My Dixie Wrecked but I thought that would be a little 'Wrigleyville' for probably a mostly male web site. Anyway, thanks again.

Bears To Target Randle El
My Dixie Normus replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The problem with EL is that he dosen't add the missing dimension to the WRs, speed deep. I really liked what Bradley showed me before getting injured but El is not much different than Muhammad as a WR. He does provide a return man and can throw the ball but that is not really the Bears style of ball control and smash-mouth defense. If you can get him, great. But I would not spend $12.5 million for him. He doesn't do that much for you. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:16 AM) No, to hell with that. I'd like it to be Sox v. A's in the Championship Series, and we can knock them out, too. Although a rematch from the 1990s with the Blue Jays wouldn't be bad. You missed my point. It will be the Sox and As, just Frank will be sitting in the stands with a torn something or other.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Mar 6, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) When did he change his name to fran? When he injured his mangina in 2001. It wasn't a typo. They 'guy' has been a cancer on the Sox since 2001.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 5, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) I don't know, man. I think the White Sox will be the Top Seed and the Yankees will be the Wild Card, so we'll knock them out in the ALDS. I think Oakland and the Blue Jays will be the other seeds. Of course, I'd rather the Indians make the Wild Card and then we can knock them out of the Playoffs, but I think the Yankees will. Good, then Fran Thomas can watch another Sox playoff victory... from the stands.

I hope the Yankees do make it to the ALCS this year, so the White Sox can sweep em. My one regret from last year was facing the Angels instead of the Yanks. The Angels were a much better team but at least beating the Yankees would have proven to the east coast bias scmucks at ESPN that the White Sox were for real. I have heard it too many times from my east coast freinds that somehow, the 05WS win is illigitimate because we did not go bow down at the alter of the NY Yankees on the way to clain the Yankee trophy. Yakees------>
