QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) If you want an email read just ask about the history of the batting glove. The answer might run 3 innings long. No kidding. The e-mails they take are almost as stupid as the responses.

TY Jon. It is good to see booze ads back on TV. I think I will grab myself a shot of JD after that one.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) Off-topic, but has anyone ever had an e-mail read by Hawk and DJ? I send them one every so often, and I've never gotten a response, or heard it read on the air. They must be hurting for e-mail because they answered one that asked what is the warning track? What is next? Who holds the key to the batter's box?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 24, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) I don't agree that it is an awful idea. Its not that I am naive to the fact that government spending can represent an enormous boost to the economy - its that the long run factors are more important to me than the short run. Our increasing debt, our unwillingness to address waste in any real way, a desire by recent administrations to overspend... its going to be a repeating pattern, unless something changes. In my view, a balanced budget requirement of some sort is the best solution. Here are two other ideas: 1. Want to stop waste? Want government agencies to perform at private industry standards? Then why not do what companies do? Have private consulting firms (Accenture and the like) do a real and complete audit for ALL government agencies, to see where the money goes. Set the budgetary AND performance goals based on the reports. Reward agencies for efficiency, fire manager at agencies still being wasteful. 2. Want to eliminate pork? Time for a Truth in Legislation Act. One bill = one subject. Every bill sent to the floor for a vote gets an OMB/GAO (or private firm again) review of the text. Anything in the bill not directly related to the subject matter of the bill is shaved off, and would have to be passed seperately. Exception would be made, of course, for annual budgets. Friday, the Chicago Trib reported that just 6 in 100 Chicago Public H.S. freshmen will go on to get a college degree. Also, 67% of Chicago 4th graders test below grade level in reading. The Fed spends 53 billion on public education every year. A good place to start would be to blow up the Dept. of Education. The only remaining element should be a national test, written in English, that qualifies you to move out of 4th, 8th and 12th grade. -
some thoughts on my first sox game this season

QUOTE(LeroySettle @ Apr 23, 2006 -> 09:53 PM) Its exciting, better get on the train cause its leaving with or without you! I was on the train when it was pulled by horses. I was at a game about (jeez) 10 years ago with a buddy who caught a foul ball in the 3rd inning. It was actually a hell of a grab. We goated him until he gave it to a kid sitting in front of us. There was about a 2 hour rain delay and everyone left. We stayed. When play resumed, he caught a second ball. Again, we gave him grief until he gave it to another kid. Our plan was to deny it ever happen and ruin the guys story but it happened to be an ESPN game of the week and he was shown on TV catching the first ball. They came back to the shot and now the kid in front of us had the ball and the announcers said something about it. Something along the lines of what a nice thing to do. Well, enough people saw it to make denying the story fruitless. Still, give the ball to a kid. Make another life long Sox fan. It is your job to stop them from becoming Cubs fans. -
some thoughts on my first sox game this season
My Dixie Normus replied to GoRowand33's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I took my kids to see tonight’s game. We started with lessons in tailgating. We ended with lessons in pitch speeds. My 11 year old was blown away by Jenks and asked me if any of the Sox players were not married. (Man, I am not ready for that. ) While in the lot, a guy in a Cub hat on his cell phone walks right in the center of our bean bag set up and stops. He is looking around chatting away, spins a couple of 360s and stands there for a good 30 seconds before I catch his eye and ask him to keep moving. He does without even acknowledging his rudeness. But when I took the two youngest to the stand for pink lemonade, some Cub fan douche bag stepped in line behind us. He is decked out in a Cubs jersey and hat. He was early 20s and must have had as many beers as years. He looks at me and says "hey, at least you guys won. The Cubs f***ing suck. We f***ing lost again tonight." I am standing there with my 5 and 7 year old kids. I gave him a look and looked down at my kids then back at him. Genius responds with "oh f***, sorry dude." Well, at least I figured out that the C on those blue hats stands for clueless. -
Heads up: Big week for Sox in Sports Illustrated

QUOTE(worldchampsox05 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) nope LeBron james is Well I guess it will take a 4-0 sweep with great pitching and clutch hitting in the WS for the Sox to make the cover of SI. Oh, wait, that won't do it either. -

Where they on the cover? -
I know he wasn't with the Sox very long but Bo Jackson was one of my all time favorite players in all of sport. He shouldn't get a statue but I would settle for a marker where he became the first ball player to hit a homerun with a plastic hip. He is one of the all-time classiest guys off the field too. He took his own money and went to Afganistan and cooked up a 4th of July BBQ for the troops. You would never know it happened because he didn't make a big deal about it in the press. It wasn't what it was about for him. Bo knows.

Class act: White Sox present rings
My Dixie Normus replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I sat with Roland Hemond for two innings at the final game at old Comiskey Park. He is nothing but a class act. Kenny Williams baseball acumen really emerged when Roland rejoined the club. His presence on the payroll goes deeper than most people realize. I welled up a bit when they introduced him at the Fisk statue unveiling. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) He's scored already this game. Oh, whoopee!! I was looking at the H column on CBS. I need some glasses. He must have walked, huh.
-
Unless Thome get another AB, he may break his streak of games where he scored a run.
-
My brother-in-law told my kids that Cub fans don't care what the Sox do. I almost came out of my chair. I beg to differ. Last August and Sept, I couldn't count how many times I heard the words "blowing it", "worst collapse in history" and so forth. They can try to take the high road all they want but they are being eaten alive from the inside. Sorry, but the worst collapse in history still belongs to the '69 Cubs. Deal with it.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) I'm much more concerned with his falling BA and OBP. I don't think this is really anything that says either way whether he did 'roids or didn't. Personally I think roid usage isn't the worst thing in the world, but it certainly takes away from the integrity of the game. If he did 'roids fine--it sure didn't help him hit many balls out during his time in SF--when he was batting over .300 but hitting very few homers. Look at what is happening in this thread. We have several AJ fans speculating on if he did or if he didn't. It will be this that changes the status quo. When enough clean players see thier rep smudged because they played along side someone who did, the players will put the heat on the union and get it cleaned up.

Does he get the votes without the milestone?
-
His stats have been consistent his entire career. If he was on the juice then, he still is. But I see no reason to suspect he ever was. It sounds like it was fishing to ask him to testify at all. He did the smart thing in not do it in my opinion.
