  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) It's a matter of upside. Haeger's upside is that of a rubber arm'd 5th starter. Floyd has the upside of 2-4. No, Floyd doesn't have that potential. I just wonder how many quality starts Floyd will be able to put up. My guess is none.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) # of starts per year is down # of innings pitched by starters is down Managers are more likely to go to their bullpens earlier Most players don't stick around as long as they used to, because they can retire earlier Way more injuries, DL trips, surgery's etc for starters It is just getting harder and harders statistically for pitchers to win this many games, and it is happening less and less. Heck if you want to talk about the 80s, look at how far the number of IP and starts have gone down just since then, even with still having 5 man rotations. There will be another three hundred game winner.
  3. Haeger will never be good or bad. He will be good sometimes and bad at other times. All knucklers are like that.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 09:04 PM) Its a bias thing, because we see him play against us all of the time. A lot of really good teams look really bad against the guy. If you got to see it 5 times a year, it could easily be taken as mailing it in against him. I've seen plenty of starts by other teams against Santana and while he makes a ton of teams look bad, the players on the other teams and the manager don't generally slobber all over King Santana before and after the game. Besides that, there are numbers. I don't remember who, but someone around here used to post about Santana's numbers against KC, Tampa Bay, and a few other bad teams who occasionally touch him up and us? Not at all. Just suicide shrug and watch him go.
  5. Uh, so how much do we have to see before we've seen what he's made of? Personally, I give him three more outings like the ones he's had -- excluding the 1-2-3 inning in relief -- before I let Haeger get some work in. His numbers over the last 90-some innings tell me just about everything I need to know, especially in conjunction with his work here so far.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) I don't think we "concede" anything to Santana. The guy is one of the best pitchers in the game. He makes a lot of teams look bad. To be fair, he makes a lot of teams look bad, but I know I'm not the only one who gets the impression that we mail it in or roll over and die everytime we face him.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) I am going to say that Tom Glavine is the last pitcher to win 300 games. People used to say that in the eighties. "No more!" It's definitely going to happen again sometime somewhere.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:28 PM) I'd much rather have him out of the AL Central. I'd especially like to see him with the Mets so he can face the Braves 5-6 times a year. I don't care if we face him. I prefer that we do, because I like to watch the best and I love it when my favorite team beats the best. And in my perfect world, we'd stop conceding games to him and just f***ing hit.
  9. Personally, I hope he remains in Minnesota as a face of their franchise after giving some kind of discount.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Umm hello...? McFly...??? Did I not just say this?!?! :wall I love that f***ing movie
  11. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 04:06 PM) Every day Ive gone to court for the last 3 years ive basically seen this guy. He has a lot of dedication to his cause, although outside of me I really dont think anyone even reads his sign. Ive never seen anyone actually talk to him. If you try, he turns away from you. All he says is "Thank you" when he gives out one of his cards and after, he will turn his back on you.
  12. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat COME ON GUYS
  13. I'm interested in dealing Oswalt for Hudson. I've got plenty of Ks to make up for the difference. It's just that I'm trying to use Oswalt as bait for Granderson and dump Andruw Jones. Do you do it? I especially believe that Atlanta will win more games for Hudson than Houston for Oswalt.
  14. I think I want to drop Helton, but would you guess him a better choice than Salty?
  15. It's possible -- just about everything is. It's realistic -- it's happened before. But considering his agent isn't Boras, and I expect the market to correct a bit, I don't think he'll get 8/200 or more. That'd be insane, if he did.
  16. I don't think Buehrle will win 300.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) And Gio was a great aquisition for a couple of starts from Freddy. Gavin hasnt panned out yet, but who knows if he will be Jason Grilli 2 out of the pen some day. I was just clarifying. I like Gio, though I have doubts that only he can answer in time.
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) yeah, sure wish we had freddy... come on, think before you post. He was only talking about the Acquisition. Not the Removal.
  19. No good GM will give him eight years, but his agent isn't Boras, and so I don't think it'll take THAT much. Who knows.
