  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) Hey, he's my AAP! KW's too.
  2. I'm sure he did, but he needed a body and hoped for the best.
  3. I didn't see it posted on here yet.
  4. Yeah, the REALLY LONG pitcher contract is a newer invention. God bless Scott Boras! But the truth is that some pitchers are worth the risk and not all good pitchers break down. Not at all.
  5. Name three location-reliant right-handers who are anything above-average. (And let's not cite Maddux who was changeup reliant, more than anything, and who COULD pop it in there when he was younger.)
  6. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) After me, who is your favorite soxtalk poster? Me.
  7. Yeah, Erstad plays at the best of his ability and runs everything out and does all the little things that he should do. He's got good fundamentals, he plays solid defense, and he shows up to play whenever he's healthy. Unfortunately, he's not what he used to be, and he is not always healthy, but you don't get a "dead man" feeling from watching him play. That's all I said and am saying. Way to jump all over it. I'm sorry Darin Erstad killed a ladybug or something when that flyball dropped behind him.
  8. What's "worth the money"? That is: let's say Colon wins a Cy Young in 05 and leads the Angels to the World Series and throws two shutouts in the Series and wins Series MVP but then gets hurt and never pitches for them again. Was it worth it? How about Maddux, Glavine over the years? I don't know how long each contract they've ever signed has been, but they've been worth their contracts. Smoltz. Randy Johnson's been worth his contracts, hasn't he? Not necessarily the latest, but he's been worth most of his contracts. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 04:35 PM) This is absolutely correct. I read today that supposedly Buehrle is seeking $70M for 5yrs. If that's what he's really asking, it should be a no-brainer for the Sox to re-sign him today. By the end of that contract, $14M per year will be a bargain for a pitcher of Mark's calibur. Where'd you read that?
  9. I, for one, am excited to see Erstad back. It won't change s***, and shouldn't, but I would like to see someone on our team play to the best of their ability and with all the effort in the world rather than all this dogging-it bulls***.
  10. Yeah, Owens is bad, and he's weak. Baseball weak. I don't think he can drive a ball further than 300 feet. At least not one thrown with decent speed.
  11. I know someone who dropped out of HS to become an ultimate fighter.
  12. Hawk + DJ trying to ease the public into accepting Buehrle's leave
  13. I realize. But I'm through with this discussion. We'll revisit it when Floyd hits the majors. The difference between Danks and Floyd, though, is that Danks has always done the most with what he's got and challenged hitters, been aggressive. One of the biggest knocks on Floyd is that he's timid as can be. They're two different people who've gone through very different development cycles. Besides, Danks has shown an ability to battle when struggling, and work his way through leagues at all levels. Floyd? Not so much. Guess the fourth time's the charm.
  14. I hate listening to Hawk. "DAG GUM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
  15. Whether or not they hosed us is not the point. I didn't say they hosed us, did I? I can't believe there are people disputing the fact that Floyd's been considered a bust all around baseball and not just by me as if I'm some random lunatic imaging that Floyd has been written off by much of the baseball world.
  16. It's hard to find long relief work for long relievers/spot starters when your rotation is as consistent and durable as ours has been. The mistake is on KW not keeping Masset in AAA to get consistent work, same with McCarthy, not on Guillen.
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) He has a lot of nagging injuries and commands a s***load of value if he were on the trade market (and obviously a major if is whether you can get him to waive his no trade clause) and should be moved at all costs if possible (I'm sorry, but I'd rather not have him completely break down in the next year or two, not when he can help your raid the Angels system). I'd love to unload him on the Angels. I doubt it happens, but if we could, we should, definitely and absolutely.
  18. Philadelphia the organization thought they'd hosed us. Fans, too, but the organization especially.
  19. Heh. And no mention of how good Guillen's been for Gar.
  20. QUOTE(goblue5699 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) Ozzie Guillen is to Jerry Manuel as Jon Garland is to John Danks. That's absurd. Ozzie's protecting his arm today. Aside, he's been pretty good about letting him stay in the game while not overtaxing his young arm. If Danks were more effecient, he'd pitch longer. Not that I'm knocking Danks. I'm not. He's learning in the majors what he should've learned in the minors, but he was too good for that, so here we are. I'm defending Ozzie from your blasphemy.
  21. Saw the 2006 anime film "Paprika" today. Paprika (パプリカ, Papurika?) is a Japanese animated science fiction film, based on Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1993 novel Paprika, about a female research psychologist involved in a project to develop a device that will permit therapists to help patients by entering their dreams. It's a VERY good movie. Go watch it.
