Most Intimidating Baseball Player Ever???
Gregory Pratt replied to messma03's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) Juan Marichal and Delmon Young would disagree What Delmon Young did wasn't intimidating. It was chickens*** to the highest level. Juan Marichal was a pitcher with a bat. That's an interesting story. He reconciled with the catcher. Had to, because it was keeping him out of the Hall! I wear #27 for Marical, Catfish and Fisk. -
Most Intimidating Baseball Player Ever???
Gregory Pratt replied to messma03's topic in The Diamond Club
I don't really think a hitter can be intimidating in the sense that, oh, Bob Gibson was. "He'll hit a homerun!" isn't quite as intimidating as, oh, "He'll spill my brain all over the plate." I have a problem with any hitter being in the top ten. -
Also: Ozzie Guillen ruined him by keeping him in the bullpen. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) Thanks Oz. Also KW. Also: the truth is that McCarthy was always the most overrated player on the team. Maybe Crede.

Where KW is going with this team
Gregory Pratt replied to caulfield12's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
No reason to bring Dye back, IMO, at this stage. I don't think my answer will change, either. Dye's speed is down and that's probably not something that'll come back in the warm weather. -
Adjustments. Also/excuse: "He doesn't have a feel for his changeup right now. But when he does, he's Santana-like!" Besides, he was never that good. There are other considerations. Hitters start slowing down in the fall, generally.
-
Always said it. I'm so glad he's gone.
-
Why don't you think that Crede's year last year was a fluke?
-
AJ's bat speed and approach has been miserable, especially obnoxious after his whiny Spring. "Hall's taking my at-bats! I need them!" for what? He's been real bad this season, and Molina outperformed him so far as game-calling today, too.
-
I wonder if Hall has more bat speed with a torn labrum than AJ "in the cold."
-
I like seeing you take the optimistic view on Jenks.
-
Uh, what? I thought he was supposed to be in great shape to start this season? Something seems off to me. I don't think Jenks velocity is coming back.

He's injured right now. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) What big things need to be done? You can't just say we're not accomplishing big things if you can't come up with things we're not doing. I can think of one...energy independence. And I'm not sure it's that we don't have the gravitas to take care of that...it's that a lot of people who have a lot of money don't want it to happen. Health care still hasn't been done. We haven't truly won a War and finished off the opponent since WWII. Unless we're counting the Cold War. Energy independence. Global Warming. It's an interesting thought.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) What has Erstad done to make you believe he is a better palyer than Anderson? I'm curious. He has a better swing. Better approach at the plate. He plays hard. Breaks up double plays. Plays equal or comparable D. Healed from injuries that have plagued him awhile. Anderson's just a kid who needs some AAA time and a new hitting instructor. -

Well, as long as it's understood that Anderson is not that guy. I agree with everyone that I don't really think Erstad's an answer but I firmly believe he's better than Anderson. Which isn't saying much. -

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) And whats more unreal is that we traded away our other CF options, and now we have BA, and no one else remotely close to being ready. Slick fielding CFers that can handle the bat well, young, and still cheap aren't exactly plentiful. I really hope Ozzie gets his head out of his ass and drops whatever beef he has against BA before we end up with no one to play CF except washed up veterans(see:Darin Erstad). That's right, they aren't plentiful and we don't have that man on the roster. Sorry to tell you, and everyone, but Anderson's swing is terrible, he has a lousy approach. It was apparent in the spring, too, numbers aside. We can argue that Anderson > Erstad, if you'd like, but let's not pretend that Anderson is good with the bat. And he probably never will be, IMO. -

I believe Santana/his agent called that report false. -
Bill Maher told Bill Bradley on his latest show, "I don't think America has the gravitas to achieve anything big anymore." Bradley says, "I couldn't disagree with you more." "When's the last time America did something big?" "We put a man on the moon!" "THAT WAS FORTY YEARS AGO!" "Well, environmental law, civil rights..." "Come on, that was forty years ago." So I ask, twofold: When's the last time, in your opinion, that the US achieved something huge and major? When we won the Cold War? 2. Do you buy into what Maher said? He also asked Sheryl Crow what she thinks would happen if Americans were told, "You could solve Global Warming if you stopped using your TV controls. I think they'd say, "f*** it" and use it." Disagree?

Okay. Just wanted that cleared up. -

I mean, Gibbons has fought a player, sent Dave Bush down to AAA for being upset about being pulled, and he had a feud with Brian Anderson. I mean, Shea Hillebrand. -

Kalapse, isn't that guy from Toronto your favorite manager in baseball today or something? And you're complaining about Ozzie being childish? I don't really see where there are huge differences between them personality wise. -

That's SoxTalk. I think I make it pretty clear that I'm just representing my thoughts on the team, its approach and all that. -- How f***ing ironic is it that the one person who would have a REASON and a VALID excuse for not being in shape and not swinging the bat well -- that's Uribe -- is lighting it up?
