QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) His autobiography, "Veeck as in Wreck" is great read if you have ever had the chance. I have it and am a third through. Finishing it this weekend. Vote for me for SoxTalk President, by the way.

I just don't think it be that bad for McCarthy to season up in the minors a little more if we can't get something worthwhile for one of our starters and that something has to be starting pitching.
-
Why does he deserve it? Because he had a handful of good-to-great outings for us in late 2005? I don't think that on merits he's especially better than any of our guys.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Bill Veeck was actually throwing around the idea long before Selig mattered. The funny thing was that Selig hated Veeck and the idea. Bill Veeck was the man.

Why not keep all five and put McCarthy into AAA for some seasoning then trade someone at the deadline or, if not, leave them intact if need be? I'm all for dealing a starter for some stud pitchers but if not, I wouldn't be upset if Cy Young spent half a season or another season back in Charlotte.

Anyone else saddened by the decline of Britney Spears
Gregory Pratt replied to Jenksismyhero's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) After viewing her 'revealing' pictures, I'm upset this didn't happen 2-3 years ago. Back then these pictures would have been great. I looked at them last night and thought... 'eh' Anyone else? She reminds me of Courtney Love without the drugs. -
Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
Gregory Pratt replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, AJ's my only untouchable on this team. Trading him would be trading the team's balls. I mean, McCarthy's untouchable, too, in my book, but that's because he's cheap not because I think he's going to grow up to be like his hero Orel. Yeah, I was impressed by the team's attitude in forcing extra innings and rallying this year. Too bad they fell apart as the pitching fell apart in September when we still had a good chance. -
Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
Gregory Pratt replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't think it's particularly funny. But yes, Matt Hardy does suck. -

I'm not even going to get into why it's crude to make fun of fat teenage girls. -

I just think it's crude to say, "Christmas has come early for teenage fat girls" after Podsednik re-signs. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Great, another season of no tools Podsednik out in LF. I can't believe KW failed to upgrade the LF/leadoff position. It almost seems like people forget just how awful he was last season. Does this mean we also don't acquire a back-up outfielder, and go with Mackowiak as our back-up in CF and Ozuna in LF? What would you have done? -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) I thought part of the reason they unloaded Freddy in the 1st place is they had gotten tired of his partying? Maybe, but his impending free agency certainly had more to do with it.

I flat-out refused to go to school this morning. I take a bus-train-bus route and get there in an hour and thirty. Took my own personal snowday instead.

QUOTE(gosox41 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) OK I must be missing something. What's the story between the two of them? Bob Royce Clayton was sleeping with Thomas' wife. I believe Thomas and his wife were divorced at the time but I'm not SURE about that. All the same, Thomas wasn't happy about it,

I already sent an email asking my friend if his girl has another expansion to email out but I wouldn't suggest you get your hopes up as the release is so soon that I doubt it at this point. But if he replies with a yes, I'll certainly send it and you don't have to vote for me, either. Just cook at my wedding.

I am in agreement with NorthSide.

I would raise taxes as necessary and as approved by Congress. But I wouldn't raise one penny more than necessary and I'd only raise if spending cuts alone can't help balance budgets.

Less corporate influence. No hippie influence. Common sense. Compromise the Economy as little as possible but concede that some compromises must be made. Combat carbon dioxide and pollution both because of global warming and because it's the right thing to do. Remake the FDA and EPA so as to prevent outside influences from interfering with what should be purely scientific. Push for a hybridization of public transit within ten years and of American society within twenty. Funding for it, too. More trees. Less smoke. That is all. I am not answering questions. Or provocation. I will reply via PM to any intellectually and honestly curious potential voter but I expect any questions to please be PMed.

Yeah. Well, no. My girlfriend loves it. I have a friend whose Lover works for Blizzard, though, and I got my girlfriend a beta copy of the Expansion Pack so she got to be a tester! And play in advance!

Pujols says MVP should be on playoff team

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) You know, I dont know if I buy into that. I know that Nintendo-corp owns Seattle and they love Ichiro, but this is Ichiro's walk year, and I know he hasnt been too happy with the past couple of years in Seattle. Seattle is probably going to see if this team has a run in it, and if they dont, they will probably have to unload Ichiro so they at least get something in return for him besides draft picks. This doesnt mean that I think they are actively trying to trade him, but I dont think that he is unmovable. If the right deal came along, I think Bavasi would make a move I've said it before: I think the Mariners would certainly deal Ichiro for the right price. Most people scoff at that, though, because of Japanese revenue, so I don't know.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 05:55 PM) Honestly, if you think that Adolf Hitler and this guy are anywhere close to being in the same league.... Ahmandinejad is a guy with not a lot of real power, but can be a lynchpin to success for US policy in the Middle East. It's not about how they act or react. It's about how we act and react. If the US government takes the words of this letter seriously, they can enact enough pressure on Iran to act at least a little more responsibly. Given Iran's problems internally, its a possibility. Perhaps enough to allow them to accept the idea of a weak Iraq as a neighbor rather than a failed one or worse yet, an Iranian satellite. Ahmoud Ahmaniac isn't in the same league as Adolf Hitler of 1939 just yet. But Ahmoud Ahmaniac is definitely in the same league as Hitler of 1933-1935 and, honestly, I think that the people who are talking about this speech as a great opportunity or are taking it as more than cheap talk are in the same league as Neville Chamberlain of Always.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) Overall Selig has been a damn fine commissioner. I only give him credit for the Wild Card and restructuring playoff baseball. Besides that he is a liar and a crook and a steroid-cover-upper, IMO. But then again, all of baseball's commissioners have sucked, IMO again.
-
Good. And then we'll have someone new and different who can pretend that Pete Rose deserves to be banned and that the Steroid Era is Over.
