  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 06:49 AM) Last night's Raw = another VERY strong Mick Foley promo (if he's not the best promo in the business, I don't know who is) and besides him, a giant steaming pile. Honestly, I don't know why I watch any more. And I hardly watch as it is. I was flipping between the HR Derby, Raw and that Real World/Road Rules thing on MTV. (that girl Diem is quality) I was lucky to catch a glipse of Foley before I flipped away from Raw, because Ric Flair doesn't stop my remote anymore either. He is what Foley said he is, a used-up hack. What'd Foley talk about -- and who is he feuding with?
  2. Suck dick, McMahon. Big Show versus Rick Flair for the ECW Title? Wow. (Edit: fixed from "WWE" to "ECW.")
  3. I submitted this question. Mr. Selig, Why does Barry Bonds deserve a benefit of the doubt not given to Joe Jackson and Pete Rose? -Gregory Pratt Are you submitting any?
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) ????? He probably meant, "Wasn't" a fluke.
  5. Someone should go meet the Tiger fans who post here in Detroit and beat them savagely.
  6. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) A+++ .648 winning %. I mean there are always things to nitpick about, but jesus christ, that's baseball. If you hit the ball 35% of the time you're considered a dam good hitter. It's a sport of acceptable failures. The only people that have trouble seeing that are the fans. They expect sub 2 era's and .400 BA's, hell some expect even more. The Sox have the second best record in all of baseball and the one team ahead of them they've gone 5-1 against. The Sox are the defending World Champs and every team is gunning for them. They are not winning by luck. There may be some players that have lower grades than I would have liked, but this team gets a big f***in A+ from me!!! I never expected to keep up with the magical pace of last year, but we're right there. I gave them an A+ at the midway point last year and 2 games off that pace isn't going to change my grade now.
  7. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Counts out: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/allstar06/ne...tory?id=2515402 Bah.
  8. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) while I definitely want him to avoid potential injury pitching in an exhibition game, I really want him to be able to get the praise and cheers he deserves for being the anchor of last year's world series winner. Hopefully, he's still going to the game, even if he won't pitch. Yeah, I want Contreras to be there for the honor that it'd be to a guy like him.
  9. Our response to the Israeli Palestinian situation is pathetic; Israel's reaction to Palestinians is pathetic; Palestine's reaction to Israel is pathetic. I can genuinely say that I despise George Bush for putting absolutely no effort into taking action in the Middle East. I despise the Israeli governments refusal to do anything in proportion to the assaults against them. And I despise the Palestinian governments inability to deal with anything using any integrity. And, for any Republicans who are going to defend Bush, let me pre-empt you. It is common knowledge that Bush decided early in his Presidency, according to the Price of Loyalty, because he decided that we should let Israel show strength, the Palestinians would back down, and that would be that. "We need to withdraw from that conflict" was his line of thinking. I think that's alarming, and wrong.
  10. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 01:39 AM) 4 if you throw in Konerko. I don't think Paul's a genuine candidate this year for team MVP. It's all Thome, Dye, Count or Jenks.
  11. Jenks Thornton, Cotts Riske Brandon Cliff Really, I trust Cotts and Thornton about the same.
  12. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:13 AM) i still cant figure out how he throws 97-98 mph. It looks like hes warming up with the catcher. I like it though. I love the way he throws.
  13. I would grade them with an A. Despite the fact that they started the season with a defanged Cliff Politte, a shaky Neal Cotts, Matt Thornton in his early stages of the Coop Treatment, and Boone Logan, then added Jeff Nelson and Agustin Montero for awhile -- well, of all these weak-links, only one is around, and that's Cliff. Everyone else is pitching to what is expected of them, except perhaps Brandon, but he's not a reliever, and it'd be unreasonable to expect him to do what Cotts or Jenks do. Despite the horrible beginning for our bullpen, we're two games out against Detroit; even better, our bullpen is now a strongpoint. I'm sure some will contend that it isn't, but I trust everyone in our bullpen except Brandon and Cliff. In their cases, I distrust Politte for the obvious reasons; Brandon, on the other hand, just doesn't have a reliever's stuff, and is going to be VERY hit/miss. At the beginning, Podsednik was hurt, and Anderson was absolutely miserable. Despite that, we're merely two games out. Thome was our saving grace in those early stages, and thank God he was around! Our starters need to do better, but I, overall, think they've done an acceptable job. They certainly have to step it up a notch, though, but Garland is doing that, and I'm not as unhappy with Freddy as many others here. Buehrle has been solid on the year, but for the last two starts, IMO. Vazquez is, I think, going to keep us in a lot of games, as he usually does whenever he earns the win. I expect much better from him, as he's got the second best stuff on our staff. I like this team.
  14. That is beautiful. Finally a Frenchmen with balls.
  15. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) That changeup Cliff brought with him to teh mound today went a long way to making me think maybe he has a slight bit of usefulness left in him... He might be good for one inning in certain games, but I don't expect much from him otherwise. In most his outings of late, he gets through his first inning fine, and then totally dies in the second. Besides, two of his outs today were JUST missed.
  16. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) Perhaps it's time to consider "regular exercise"
  17. Jim Thome. We had a rough first two weeks, or so. Without Thome, our record would've been far worse. And his presence along changes an entire game. He's got the best overall numbers, and even a one thousand fielding percentage! :lol My choice.
  18. I hate the Boston Red Sox, and so coming into this series I was hoping to defeat them, and not just defeat them, but embarrass them. Unfortunately, they kicked Buehrle around, and Freddy, too. But I'd been getting into it with a friend of mine who loves Boston, and I promised her that we would bring Papelbon to Earth here in Chicago. Coming into the series, I thought htat only one thing would make me happier than blasting off on Papelbon, and that was supposed to be a sweep. That didn't happen. But something better did, for my viewing pleasure, at least. I loved it when Thome hit a line off of Schilling. I only wish it'd hit his big mouth. If anyone has a picture of the Schilling hit, do share.
  19. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Looks like Kenny of the Spirit Squad may be in some hot water...(but this plaintiff is f***ing hilarious) A Chesapeake man told Hampton Roads NewsChannel 3 that WWE wrestler Ken "Kenny" Doane is responsible for injuring his arm. Following a WWE RAW house show last Sunday, James Wilson, 27, says he noticed Doane and wrestler Mickie James waiting at a stoplight. According to Wilson, who approached them, only James gave him an autograph. Doane, on the other hand, allegedly held onto Wilson's poster as the light turned green. He then began to drive off, ripping the sign and hurting Wilson's shoulder, the man, who doctors diagnosed with a left shoulder strain, says. "That's when it ripped in the end and fell on the ground," said Wilson. "And it's not my fault he did what he did. I'm innocent and I'm going to take a warrant out. And nobody's going to stop me over my dead body!" Wilson said that Doane was the only wrestler to ever deny his autograph request. WWE's Gary Davis offered Wilson autographed photos, but when Wilson instead requested money, WWE asked that he file a written report. The company is standing behind its wrestler, saying that Doane's only contact with the man occurred when Mickie James was signing his poster. Wilson, who will pursue a misdemeanor charge at the Norfolk magistrate's office, said that Kenny was doing more than merely playing his "heel" character. "I just do. I feel the way I do because he was real. And not just he ripped my poster, which is a misdemeanor, but then he hurt my arm and shoulder," said Wilson. I think that's classless from both sides.
  20. I'm glad our season isn't officially over, too. For a second, I could've sworn that losing this would've cost us EVERYTHING.
  21. I sure am glad this game was over a long time ago, what with our team being miserable and all. Good job everyone.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) Don't be an idiot...he clearly swung at the pitch. I can hate that umpire if you can hate Gload and Politte.
