QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) Since you appear to believe everything will turn out fine, would you personally consider trading Garcia -- and moving McCarthy into the rotation -- or keeping everything as it stands? I'm not so confident 'we'll be fine,' atleast concerning the rotation. It just so happens this is the division of our ballclub which is expected to perform. I'm not one who is confident about our starters rebounding since they've been pitching above career numbers. I've heard this mentioned on a few occasions. I'd consider trading Freddy Garcia. I don't see where I've ever said that I wouldn't. But I don't think I'd trade Freddy for a reliever, as our bullpen is one I'm confident in. I like and trust our bullpen, especially now without Politte. I know some people lost their minds after Friday's start and forgot that we'd had about a month of excellent bullpen work going into the start of this series, but I didn't, and I like our Pen as it stands. I truly expect Javier to pitch much better in the second half, and Garland too. There should be no doubt that Buehrle'll be okay, and Contreras, either. Freddy's our weakness because he isn't throwing like he used to, but overall, I don't look at Freddy and say, "We're f***ed!" everytime we go into one of his games. And, a clarification: by "We'll be fine" I meant the point that we had an awful beginning this year, then kicked it up. I think the same'll happen here. We were swept by the Yankees. We'll survive. On a personal note, I think McCarthy is very overrated, and I don't think he ever becomes better than a third starter. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't look at him and say, "Ace!"

We started the season off well last year, too, but began this year's like crap before kicking it into high gear. We'll be fine. And fathom: I'm glad you like the other teams better than ours, talent-wise. Did you feel that way last year, too, whenever we lost to the Red Sox or Yankees in the season?

At the least, I see that Detroit's played poor against KC this weekend, too, and was fortunate that they were playing KC, because that's the only reason they pulled out their wins, aside from Verlander's. I take some heart in the way they've been playing. -

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) .330+ with RISP. 2 for 3 with 2 walks on the day. Then you are going to say he's not clutch when one of the best closers of all time gets him out? -

Hey Admins: this thread has a curseword in the title. Does that mean we're allowed to curse in our titles, as long as we asterik a letter? You did say no one was exempt from the new rules. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) The Yankees have thrown out more runners at home today (1) than we have all season. I call bulls***. I can remember Konerko throwing out Pierre offhand, and I believe there are a couple more. -

Crede's slow. Either way, no reason to send him with Iguchi and Pods coming up, since they've been playing very well today. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) I can, you can't put an IF/Corner OF in CF and expect him to play acceptable defense. Once again it's about putting your players in the best position to be successful and Ozzie is not doing that. He may be out of position, but he misses the simplest things. Corner outfielders have to catch flyballs too, you know, and one hit right at him that gets behind him? That's miserable. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) The lack of hustle by the guys is absolutely embarrassing. Thome has been VERY good about hustling this year. That play was an aberration for him. But, yeah, overall our hustle's been off. -
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Saying our guys are pitching below their career averages is misleading. With Garcia, his career numbers should be thrown out the window because due to losing his stuff, he's a completely different pitcher than he was in the past. Vazquez is a similar case: he hasn't been very good the past 2 and a half seasons so the career numbers should have less meaning as well. And with Garland, if he returns to his career averages, he's still not very good, and we need him to be very good. But I noticed you didn't give us Jose's numbers. I'm assuming you're putting more weight in Jose recent performances instead of automatically thinking he'll return to career norms. Well, you can't have it both ways. Contreras didn't pitch here for much of his life. His time in New York shouldn't count as a "career norm." His international and Cuban careers count far more, and what he's doing now is more than consistent with his past pitching.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:49 AM) One of the most painful things I've ever seen in pro sports happened yesterday with his facial and body expressions. It was so painful to watch yesterday when the Yankees were pouring it on. I really like Cliff and I will wish him the best of luck. He's looked like that all year when he's getting shelled.
