  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) Heh. Sounds a lot like the Harry Potter thing. "He who shall not be named" or whatever they say. I actually saw a bumper sticker once that said "Republicans for Voldemort", done nicely in the correct colors and layout of the Bush/Cheney stickers of the time. Took me a second to recognize the difference. I saw that sticker, too. It cracked me up. I think we need a "George Bush is no Grover Cleveland: For Shame" bumper sticker.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:42 PM) Ya know, I don't know where you go to school, but your posts have New Trier written all over them. New Tier? Do explain.
  3. What would I throw at the Freshman?
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Would an unrequested back massage help placate you? You know, I think it would.
  5. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) It's like an updated version of the old Marlo Thomas series, but with George in the lead role. Care to translate?
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Care to translate? It's an FDR joke. Roosevelt was so despised by the richest of the rich (and make no mistake, they were his biggest critics/enemies) that the snoots would call him "That man!" instead of say his name because they despised him so.
  7. TIGERS CAN'T DIGEST SOX. IT'D UPSET THEIR STOMACH. THEY'LL TRY, THOUGH, AND WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THEM SICK. HELL YEAH!!!!
  8. I'm getting to "That man!" levels with Bush.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) His velocity was up. I commented in the game thread that he looked like he was throwing about as good as I had seen him all season. He wasn't getting hit and his stuff was into the 90's. I can't comment on how accurate the radar gun was though. Yeah, the article noted how well he did after he began throwing hard again. I hope it's a sign of things to come.
  10. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) Great. Should be a fun gamethread with all the Tigers fan on it tonight. *prepares .357 to point into own mouth* I find that the Tigers fans are more respectful to us Sox fans than we Sox fans are to other Sox fans.
  11. Hey guys, I read in the paper this morning that for the last three innings of Sunday's game, Freddy was blowing in ninety four MPH fastballs. I believe it was either in RedEye or the Tribune, as I read both of them this morning. If true, d'you think it's a sign that he'll be throwing hard again? Some people contend that he's throwing soft as a personal choice. I never really bought that. Maybe he has, or maybe he's off of Dead-Arm. Any thoughts?
  12. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) Here is a possibility for a back up catcher to replace Widger: Alomar Headed Out? Sandy Alomar Jr. has just two at-bats since the Dodgers acquired Toby Hall from Tampa Bay on June 27, and Manager Grady Little indicated that should the club make a deal before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, Alomar could be the odd man out. "When the time comes when we could better ourselves, that's a possibility," Little said.
  13. They'll be playing Oakland after us. Lucky for them, they'll miss Barry Zito, but I like our chances of gaining a few games this week.
  14. Konerko is worse than Giambi! Hahaha Emil Brown is number two in left field? Hahahaha! Brian's four, but he has a lot less games played than those ahead of him. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Look at how much better Uribe is defensively than any other ss in the league... I love Juan's D. From SoxMachine (http://soxmachine.com/blogs/meet_the_sox/articles/89.aspx)
  15. QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) that's what i thought too. gotta love sports atmospheres
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 10:26 PM) Actually, Cooper's been most effective when he gets his pitchers to ditch their 3rd and 4th pitches, and he has them focus on their main pitches. Cotts and Thornton throw 90 pct fastballs. And trust me when I say that there were some people on this site that thought Cooper could make any pitcher into a quality pitcher. Well, yeah, I know there are people who think Cooper could fix anyone. I didn't say there weren't those people.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 09:03 AM) I guess the Yankee fans got tired of hearing the 'Pau-lee Pau-lee' and 'Let's go White Sox' chants all weekend. Did anyone notice the mock 'Paul-ee Paul-ee' and 'Let's go Yankees' chants that went up in the 9th when he hit into that dp? I've NEVER heard that chant at Yankee stadium before. What a classy bunch those New Yorkers. I loved our road presence, but I thought it was smooth how they reacted to it.
  18. QUOTE(GSH @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor...He!! no. This thread should be a sticky. Lots of baseball left folks. Lets relax and take meds Oh, my God.
  19. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I just got lucky. The only reason I did it is b/c I hated the kid and I wanted to rub it in his face that I broke up hi perfect game. He went after me the next day in school, and I used a locker to break his arm, so it was all good.
  20. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) Can we really blame them for having that opinion? We just got done getting our asses whooped by the Red Sox and Yankees, two teams competing with us for a possible wild card spot. And our pitching looks like s*** compared to the Tigers, our division rival. One of these 4 teams will be left out, and since we're looking like the weakest one, it's not surprising the experts are getting off the bandwagon. Yes. However bad our starters might be doing, we're not throwing Sidney Ponson out there.
  21. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) We don't know the whole story though, maybe she didn't make dinner that night. Hard to make dinner when your husband's beating your face in front of your friends and passersby.
  22. I would root for the team to lose on every game that Myers pitches. That man is human filth, and there's nothing else to it from my point of view. A drug problem, drinking, self-mutilating, a generally bad attitude toward people around you -- these things can be forgiven and looked past. Even some level of violence is okay. Carl Everett headbutt an umpire? Well, the Umpire was unlikely to have been that much smaller than him, and they're both males; it's a relatively fair fight, and the shot is a relatively fair shot. It's a ridiculous thing to do, but umpires are big boys. Taking a woman who is over a foot smaller than you, punching her in the face, slapping her repeatedly, and having a history of this? No thanks. I know that having a moral guide to players might lead to some good ones getting disqualified from teams, but that's management's decision to make. I'd be stunned if we picked up a former child molester or a NeoNazi, and I'd be appalled if we picked up a guy who did this to his wife. Hell, even a little violence could, in theory, be looked past. Everyone has feelings of frustration, and sometimes, people lose it in the heat of the moment. But in Myers case, that's clearly not the problem. He's just a sick son of a b****.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Its sort of my personal crusade. I can't believe all the posts I see of acquiring rubbish who will magically turn to gold working with Cooper. Cooper was the Sox pitching coach before last season, and I didn't see everyone thinking he was a miracle worker then. I do think he's a good pitching coach. I just don't think he "fixes" everybody. If the guy was the miracle worker a lot of people think he is, would the board have any posts which state the concern with the current pitching staff, the one with the greatest rotation ever assembled? You can't just GIVE someone to Cooper and say, "Take this guy, and fix him." Cooper works best with talented people who need to have their mechanics tinkered with, really. Thornton is a prime example, and I think one of the few examples. I believe I've read that Cooper is also good at helping pitchers develop offspeed stuff to balance their attacks. Contreras isn't an example of Coop's skills, of course. He was more fixed by his family, El Duque and Ozzie than Cooper. There's only so much he can do for Freddy, too, and Javier. Javier needs to be thought how to kill off a guy with two strikes on him.
  24. I think, what we saw with the Tigers and Royals, is the Expected Fall of Their Pitching. If they'd been playing any team aside from KC, they'd have dropped three of four. We're primed to take them down, and then they're headed for some trouble, IMO.
