GAME THREAD 6-11-06 SOX vs INDIANS
Gregory Pratt replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) I think there must have been Anger mixed in with your ExLax this evening. Is Freddy messing up your fantasy team? Umm, sure. I don't think I went after Freddy, and I'm pretty sure I didn't say anything angry. And, while I'm not completely sure, I don't believe I take "ExLax" and I don't know why "anger" is capitalized there. But I respect your post. Very much. -

QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) Garcia and a prospect for Zito? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even take Garcia, McCarthy, and Fields for Zito. Yes yes. You're pretty sure. Except that Oakland can't afford him past this year and is looking to unload him. He's very much available, and I think Freddy could work as bait, with some prospects. I will tell you this much. I don't think there's anyway in hell that Billy Beane wouldn't trade Zito for McCarthy Fields and Garcia, as that is the steal of a century. But it's never going to be offered, so that's moot. QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) I hate Tigerfan so much. Why can't he just go away? I know he hasn't posted, but just the thought of him lurking here pisses me off. Holy crap, that's funny in a sad way. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) I brought this up yesterday, but I really think we should consider obtaining another starter, especially with some great ones (Zito, Willis, Schmidt) possibly becoming available. I wouldn't mind renting out Zito or, hell, trading for him, giving up Garcia and a prospect or two, and then trying to resign him. -

Has any reporter ASKED Freddy or Ozzie WHY Garcia's velocity is off so much? There was such a big deal over Jenks' velocity in the Spring. Why not Freddy, especially since it's lasted far beyond the time that Bobby's weaker-throws did. -

Is it fair to ask whether or not he's a) covering up injuries or B) off of steroids or something? Someone brought it up awhile back, but I can't quite get why a guy in his prime would lose so many miles on his fastball. -

God, it pisses me off to hear Tadahito called "Tada" QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Well I figure you guys (and gals) would more likely to watch then a Tigers fan neccessarily would, so I would be more likely find out here then at a Tigers board. I do agree: Sox fans are more knowledgeable. -

QUOTE(tigerfan @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) Quick question, BBT isn't covering Clemens minor league start tonight are they? I saw they were showing him warming up before the break just now. (I realize it sounds ignorant, but just making sure I'll be able to see the game here) Nevermind I see they aren't. Not that I mind your presence here -- I know there are some guys who get their bats jammed at the fact that you're here -- but aren't there Tigers sites for you to be on to ask this sort of question? I mean, it's kind of odd and creepy to me that you're on a Sox message board, in an Indians-Sox game thread, and at SoxTalk even when the Tigers aren't playing Chicago... ...seems fetishey to me. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) Joe Morgan: "Hafner is the big guy in the middle of Cleveland's rotation." -

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) He doesn't I like guys like Richardson, Warner and Bahy guys out of the national spot light but still have a name known by most people. I also think that the voting block is key those guys they are very popular in there states which are normally Red states in which any state could be the difference in a election. Vilsack has as much of a chance as Bayh or Richardson, for sure. Warner is a stronger candidate on the surface than any of those, though. But if the Democrats could take Indiana or Virginia, you're right, it would probably be a deathblow to the 2008 Republican candidate. That's moot, however, as the likelihood of it occurring with Bayh is minimal, and I don't really think that Warner is likely to win the nomination but, if he does, it's a good omen for Democrats. -
Don't you get it? Conventional wisdom doesn't have to make sense!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) I would love for Mr. Jefferson to take the Delay route and retire now. Problem is, that's not the DeLay route. DeLay denied everything, pledged to fight, and stuck around in Congress for several months insisting on his innocence and being a pain in the ass, before finally retiring and saying he did everything with honor and integrity. If you want the DeLay route, this is going to be awhile. -

I got elected to my LSC, ripped the school and Administration all through my campaign, pledged not to be their lapdog as a slap to a bunch of people, and when I got elected, I resigned. I resigned because I was outnumbered on the LSC, and didn't really want to be on it. I just had some things to say, and some fun to have. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) Fair enough...although it's understandable I don't remember the Clinton stumbling along thing since I was about 5 then. Well I was three years old. It's called a history book! And there are tons of examples of candidates just coming out of nowhere. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) The guy that surprised me on that list was in fifth? Tom Daschle? honestly? He blows. Anyone who loses their state in a purely state-wide contest is a loser. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) Oh your definitely right that Edwards would have some issues, but he's the most electable candidate for the democrats. Kerry showed his true colors of ignorance and stupidity in the last election by losing an election to a horrible persident, and Hilary simply would never win though, so Edwards is the best option. I just hope the republican party gives me a candidate to be excited about and vote for, but I would be surprised if the democrats win this election, regardless of what candidate the republican party has. The democrats will gain a lot of power in the house and senate in upcoming votes IMO, but the party simply doesn't have much of anything in terms of candidates to become president. Nah. Warner is more potent than Edwards. Just because he's cute and charismatic doesn't mean that he's electable. He was on his way to defeat in Carolina as a Senator until he pulled out of the race. Edwards is a political loser, with no accomplishments in the Senate, really, and nothing that'll catch the public's eye. And, as far as your saying that hte Democrats have no candidates, that's nonsense. There'll be one, and a good one. what you're saying sounds like post-1988: "we don't have much of anything in terms of candidates" and then Bill Clinton stumbles along. How soon we forget history, however, and that most of our candidates HAVE been surprise, dark horses. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) I think he's the best chance the dems might have. Too many people wouldn't vote for Hillary because a. she's a woman and b. she rubs a lot of people wrong. I think that bit of conventional wisdom is nonsense. She's too polarizing? There's no such thing unless you're, I don't know, George McGovern or Pat Buchanan. She makes Republicans angry? Oh my, that's such a shift away from what Democrats typically do. Because, you know, Republicans want to give kisses to Walter Mondale and Al Gore. As far as Hillary, I think the "she's a woman" talk goes both ways: surely women would be willing to vote for her in droves, but I'm not so sure men would vote for her. (I don't think they'd vote against her in numbers as large as some might suggest, though.) That -- the men wouldn't vote for her -- is probably the most potent opposition to her, but I think you'd be mad to say that Clinton -- whose husband was so Conservative with money -- couldn't peel off independents and moderate Righties who believe in fiscal responsibility. (Which isn't to say that I think she's as fiscally responsible as Bill: I don't. But their track record is just that, and I think that that perception of the Clinton years would work for them.) Hillary bothers me, personally, because from all memoirs she's a paranoid, grumpy b**** -- Richard Nixon with ovaries, if you will. Edwards is mediocre, IMO, and didn't even make a dent in Carolina. He sucked in the debates, and even on the stump. He's too sunny to be President, and I think he's about done. I think, for what it's worth, that he's very respectable, as a man, and I admire his soup kitchen work, post-2004. But President Edwards? I don't think it's happening. -

Oh, my. IMO, that's awful. Awful because I dislike Edwards and Kerry. I'm surprised that those two losers are doing so well, and I'm disappointed that people are following Clinton, too. Go Vilsack, and Warner, and Gore! -
Should the KKK be allowed to protest at historical sites?
Gregory Pratt replied to BHAMBARONS's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) I think its totally disgraceful. I think the KKK is a low-rent, redneck bunch of idiots. I also think that despite their stupidity they have rights to free speech and free assembly. Its up to people who know better to counter their message with a more reasonable one. What should the counter-message be? "That's racist!"? -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) Wars on nouns are tough. I thought BHam had a legit point. You might expect at least a small bump in the polls, but no. Yeah, I'd expect that, too. But, politically, I think Bush is at a stage where the American public has stopped listening. If Bush wants to regain standing, he'd do well to stay out of partisan politics this November. This is the same situation that Clinton was in, in 1994. The American public furious, his message drowned out by poor polls, and his advisors telling him that it would be best to let the Democrats stand alone. Instead he came out, campaigned, and became an albatross -- not just in spirit but reality, as he was out there actively engaging the Republicans. If the GOP wants some success this year -- and by all means, they're bound to lose some seats in both Houses, so they're looking to minimize damage -- they'd do well to back away from Bush and ask him to stay in the White House. Otherwise, he's looking at a world of hurt for now and for the rest of his Presidency. Of course, having a Democratic Congress with a Speaker Pelosi might be the best thing to ever happen to Bush, much like Newt Gingrich was a gift to Clinton. Oh politics!
