April 22nd Game Thread Twins at Sox
Gregory Pratt replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2006 Season in Review
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) I'm afraid that since Freddy has only allowed a run, Ozzie won't take him out. Also, did anyone else see that with Buehrle and Crede there? Oh yes. I love it. --- I'm such a Boone lover, but he was really off tonight. -
Sox Should Make Signing Buehrle Top Priority

QUOTE(ShoeLessRob @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) You talking about when he was leaving the dugout to throw some balls with Man soo lee? If you are he was just waving to the crowd. Nope, that's not it, I don't think. It was much closer to gametime. And what I saw wasn't Buehrle wave, it was lower his head slightly while jogging and spreading his arms out in front of him then looking up and laughing. -
Am I the only one stunned that the best records in baseball are held by Chicago and the Mets, teams hailed all off-season long for their teams, but also by the Houston Astros who I, frankly, thought would fizzle and die? Maybe the Rocket will come back to Houston after all. The media keeps saying that he wants to come back with a team that gives him a chance to win. And, if that's the case, then what better team than Houston -- particularly considering that they're in a weaker league and thus likelier to get to the World Series?

Come on Freddy! Tie the record! -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 22, 2006 -> 08:03 AM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^ that was the genesis of this thread. I see Mark in the Maddux mold in some ways. His health seems to indicate he could achieve Moyer like years and be a threat to win 300, but he'd have to continue to play on some great teams. More likely 15 @ 15 wins and 225 wins. It is strange that the media hasn't picked up on his marketability sooner. That solid midwestern charm should start resulting in some endorsement $$$$. The boldened part is particularly my favorite part. I've been saying that for ages. (Not that I claim to have created the comparison or anything.) They're both finesse pitchers. Their careers, barring a linedrive to the face, are the types that'll last longer than the average pitcher's. I think Mark Buehrle can win 300, provided he stay with above-average teams.

Am I the only one who caught Buehrle jogging before the game to warm-up and stretching his arms out with a huge silly grin, making a mock-sliding motion? -
Time for Bonds to bow out disgracefully

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Was Barry ever convicted for spousal abuse? What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Or is that only for non-stars? WCS, I dont have a hard on. I just want Barry to be treated like every other player in a similar circumstance. Why is the fed not going after Palmeiro? He perjured? Why is baseball not going after Mac, he used steroids? Hypocrisy needs to be beaten down, no matter who it forces you to defend. SoxBadger, all I'm hearing from you is Defense Attorney-type nonsense. Deflect attention from Bonds by saying that other people did it too -- "why go after Barry first?" Blah blah blah. You're only innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. On the baseball diamond of public opinion Barry Bonds is guilty as charged of being a nasty human being and a cheater. And I have the smallest hunch that, should charges of perjury and tax evasion be wrought, Barry Bonds is going to have hell to pay. All because he's black and MLB is hypocritical, I'm sure. You're going to look foolish when he does get prosecuted and convicted. And about drug tests -- human growth hormone doesn't have a test. There are many reasons Barry hasn't been caught with them in his system. -
Heads up: Big week for Sox in Sports Illustrated

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) It just gets sickening that people are willing to throw Bonds under a bus for at the absolute worst, cheating in a game. There are so many pro-Athletes who have actually committed real crimes, spousal abuse, DUI, murder, yet here people come painting Bonds as the worst thing ever. Umm, Barry used to abuse his girlfriend/mistress. Nice try painting him as someone who at least didn't "commit real crimes." The fact is that Bonds is not only a juicer but a real-life monster. -

Yeah, I don't see Buehrle going anywhere other than St. Louis or staying here. And I'm pretty sure he'll stay here for a fair enough price. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) I'd say 5 and 65 is fair for both parties, but I'm not sure he'd accept it. Being perhaps the biggest Buehrle apologist around, I'm probably not the one to ask. I think Flash Tizzle should be able to give you a better idea or Tony or Jason. Buehrle has never struck me as money hungry. I think he'll stick with fair money and long-term. Sort of like Contreras. -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 08:08 AM) So, back on the thread's original subject... In case no one noticed last night... Cleveland lost, so... WE ARE ALONE IN FIRST FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR!!!!

Class act: White Sox present rings
Gregory Pratt replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) So, let me get this straight, maybe I'm not getting this right. Adkins, Bajenaru, and Raul are all getting rings, is that it? Then Shingo undoubtedly gets one, or hell breaks loose. Shingo! -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 06:03 PM) I love it when Cub fans get such a great chuckle from "Who's Mark Buehrle" because Mark called out Maddux by name and said he threw a spitball. He was egged on by that loser Blackhawks phony Jesse Rodgers and someone else (Ofman?) into giving them a name, and he said "you hear stuff around the league about a guy on the north side with a lot of success who has a lot of movement on his pitches." Of course Maddux took the Barry Bonds route of not denying any accusations (remember "who's Ron Kittle?) and came back with the lame "Who's (fill in the blank.)" Who is Mark Buehrle? All-Star game starter and winner, ace of the World Champions' staff, and he even recorded the save in the longest World Series game in MLB history. Who was Greg Maddux? That one Braves pitcher right? Actually, that's wrong. Buehrle didn't call Maddux out by name, and he backtracked whenever asked if it was Maddux he WAS talking about. For my money, I thought he was talking about Zambrano's sinker.

Where the f*** is Pablo? WHAT BULLs***!

QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I think he said "Who's Mark Buehrle?" or something like that. The answer of course is the #1 starter on the defending World Series champs. Oh, that's not that bad, all things considered. Buehrle had accused a Cubs pitcher of cheating and Maddux was heralded as the "obvious" choice by the media. (I thought he was talking about Zambrano, but I don't know.) Maddux' reply was, "Who's Mark Buehrle?" and, you know, it could be worse. I don't much like it, but it's better than whatever Frank Thomas or Carl Everett or Curt Shilling would say.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Uh....no. I love Mark but he's not in Santana's league. They're different types. It's like comparing Maddux to Clemens, I think. I wouldn't say Santana is THAT much better than Buehrle, and I'm not so sure Mark's not better to have.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) So now we're trading McCarthy because he "might" have arm problems in the future. Only on Soxtalk.

1-0!
-
AJ up. Bases loaded. Two outs. Sox are going to beat Santana Friday. Mark (Buehrle) it down!
-
I do hope Kenny doesn't wind up pulling a 1990s and pushing our better players away, like Buehrle.
-
QUOTE(TheDudeAbides @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) i highly dislike him. Remember what he said about Buehrle? What'd he say?

QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) what an exchange right there between farmer and singleton. I think they might get into a fist fight. Yeah, from the small I've heard of them they don't like each other. What happened? I'm watching it on TV, as I'm sure others are as well. Recap?
