White Sox vs. A's, 4/11/07 (W)
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) BA was playing a little wall ball against the CF wall for some reason, guess it was kinda his own version of Hot Potato. Often called Pods Potato. Good patience by Joe.

I'm not giving up on Buehrle yet today. I think he'll keep us in the game, somehow.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Jesus, I want to see that same zone with the A's pitching You might need to do some imaginin'. Particularly if our hitters keep swinging at pitches below their shoes.

Good pitch by Buerhle to induce the DP. I'm also quite sure that, had the hitter not swung, it would've mysteriously been called a ball. That was AAA umpiring that inning. Silly.

QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) This is ridiculous. MB is not pitching bad, the A's are hitting it from the shoulders to the shoes. Hitters tend to be more confident when no close pitch is going to be called a strike. Walk. There was another one that could've been called a strike.

Buehrle got hosed by the umpire. At least one of the 2 prior pitches had to be strikes. And, by the way, if Buehrle doesn't get those types of pitches, he'll be posting a 6 plus ERA this year. That was ridiculous.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) I'd rather have Uribe or Gooch hitting 2 today. Why BA? I actually like it -- keeps Iguchi and Uribe in the same spots against lefties and righties, developing a little consistency. And, if our other hitters were actually going well, Anderson would see some pitches to hit, which would be good for him. (I think it was a mistake to hit him 9th all year last year.)

Again with the inability to hit changeups from left-handed pitchers. What does Greg Walker DO?

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) God damn is he still talking about that? That's the way they teach it at the Ed Farmer School of Broadcasting. How many times did Farmer use the nickname "Babe" for Chris Shelton last year? And I'm pretty sure that's not a nickname that anyone in Detroit ever used. But it was Big Ed's story, and he was sticking with it . . . and sticking with it . . . and sticking with it . . . . and

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) If DJ knows that there's something going on with Contreras (say for example marital issues), he might want to stop mentioning it every 5 minutes. Maybe Jose's worried about Hawk getting back safely.

Nice play by Crede. That was a tough hop.

I still believe that AJ will finish the year above .120. I really do.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Alex Snelius is still donating money. Anyone read the article about him in Chicago Magazine? He has some cash flow problems apparently. That's what Thome can do to a man's wallet.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) Just when Thome looks like he's 100 years old, he hits one 420 feet. It's only when he looks 420 and hits them 100 feet that we'll have to worry. What would I do this summer without the Alex Snellius Foundation?

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) Contreras has trimmed 45 runs off his ERA tonight. Yeoman's work by Jose. If he keeps on this pace, he'll finish the year with a -1800 ERA.

White Sox vs. A's, 4/09/07 (W)
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) Contreras has zero confidence right now. He's finishing every delivery differently. I know he's used different release points, but he seems all over the place with his finishes -- standing up, tilting to the left -- just looks like he's searching for it out there.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) I've seen one good offspeed pitch by Contreras all year. Has he thrown a good forkball today? I don't know about the forkball. But I do know that he's nibbling. Not good.

That pitch Piazza hit had nothing on it. Yikes.
