  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) Detroit isn't good offensively? Buehrle has been horses*** against the Indians and Rangers. Should we throw him under the bus for not pitching well against good hitting teams? Contreras has a 4.91 ERA against the weak hitting Cubs. He also has an ERA over 6.00 against the Indians. Under the bus? Vazquez pitched great against the Indians, sucked against the great hitting Rangers and Blue Jays, and even sucked against the crappy hitting Twins. Boy, I bet some of you just don;t how to feel with all of our starters not pitching well against great hitting teams. :rolly :rolly :rolly :banghead I see your point, but Buehrle, Contreras and Vazquez have been good overall (ERAs of 3.21; 2.54; and 4.19), while Garcia has lost speed on his fastball, isn't efficient with his pitch count, and has an ERA of 5.13, with Garland looking like 2005 was a fluke and is pitching like the career .500 pitcher he once was (ERA 6.19) and has given up the most home runs in the AL.
  2. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) Outside of Kenny Rogers (who is a terrible 2nd-half pitcher, BTW), none of those guys have ever done squat in the majors. Oh, and Maroth just had elbow surgery. And Verlander, the rookie, has never thrown anything close to 200 innings before and it's unlikely that his arm is conditioned well enough to pitch effectively in September. You want to go with a bunch of front-runners who've never put together a good full season before? Suit yourself. I'll stick with Mark, Jose, Javy, Freddy, and Jon. Going into today's game, Freddy's ERA was about 4.6. Overall, he's been decent this year. Not that great, but not horrible. McCarthy would most likely put up an ERA somewhere in the 4.5-5.5 range, which would be an improvement over what Jon's been doing. Then again, it's unlikely that Garland will continue to suck this badly for the remainder of the season. As disappointing as Jon (and Freddy, to a lesser extent) have been, the Sox need reliable middle relievers more than anything else right now. Sean Tracey on the mound doing his impression of Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn in September will kill us. And 2/5th of it has been outstanding. And the #3 has been pretty good. And it's not even mid-June yet. And we have the second-best record in baseball right now. What was your point again? Why does it have to be an either/or decision? There are certainly other alternatives. I wouldn't want to trade rotations with Detroit, but I don't want to rely on poor pitching from Garcia and Garland either.
  3. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) Too bad we have two of the best players in baseball at that position ahead of him. Bench Thome. Or Konerko! Right, because starting Gload over Thome or Konerko is the only way to get him at bats. Gload's only had 39 at bats coming into tonight's game, and I believe that's fewer chances than the career .284 hitter deserves. There are some instances where Ozzie could have given Gload at bats, like pinch hitting for the dogs of the lineup late in the game.
  4. QUOTE(Dan @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) The official Ross Gload supporters are always looking for more members!!! I've been on his bandwagon since 2004. Too bad Ozzie doesn't respect him.
  5. Why does Jon Miller pronounce Vazquez with a soft "a"? I hate soft "a" pronunciation.
  6. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) I think this team has far more pressing concerns than finding a new hitting coach. Who says an organization has to fix its problems in order of concern? Yes, ideally we'd upgrade the bullpen with two dominant arms, then upgrade SS, starting rotation, and finally hitting coach, but if KW needs to work out of order, that's fine with me.
  7. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) √ Greg Walker √ Juan Uribe √ Joe Crede √ Hawk/DJ and Farmer/Singleton You're about 8% through the organization now, keep up the good work! Farmer's cool. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:46 PM) :rolly So why come to a message board to discuss ideas, whine about things, and refuse to offer any suggestions? You don't have to answer this. It's not your job. It's not that I refuse to offer suggestions, but that I don't desire to put forth the effort to find a solution. I figure I'll get the conversation going by whining and finger pointing (my strength), and let others compensate my weakness by finding a solution. A group effort, if you will.
  8. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) LOL. He did yesterday. Know what you are talking about before you spout off or you might get banned by another site. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) I wasn't even talking to the guy.
  9. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) Maybe the game's over like yesterday. Which fan in MLB gives up on their team before the games over? You can call yourself one of those too. He didn't give up on his team; he mocked dumbass fans who blindly support players no matter how poorly they play.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY GARCIA I LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT BECAUSE I'M A DUMBASS CUB FAN Awesome.
  11. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) But he is producing. Good enough not to be hated on like he is. I mean, he's a pitcher on the White Sox. They should all get the benefit of the doubt. I feel like I'm baseball prospectus here soemtimes and not a white sox fan site. Meh, Freddy's velocity is down this year, he walks too many batters and often throws a high pitch count. I haven't seen him dominate a good offense this year.
  12. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) There is plenty of "I dislike Pods, but..." "I dislike Freddy, but..." There is a difference between criticism and whining about everything a player does wrong. We only whine because we care.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) He's found a way to keep teams in more than half of his games to 3 runs or less. The team has also given him solid run support...and he's had good success against the lesser hitting teams we've faced. That sounds about right. It certainly wasn't because of his dominance.
  14. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Well how do you propose we get a better hitting coach? I don't know; it's not my job.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 07:00 PM) so far this season its our hitting that has carried the team not the pitching..... but i guess Walker doesnt deserve any credit for that. I'm not looking at statistics as much as talent. I think there are better hitting coaches around and would like an upgrade.

    SS Help

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) He isn't necessarily overpaid in the eyes of the Pirates who have very few drawing cards as of right now, if he were on the Sox and had his current contract I'd be pissed. Just check out http://www.iratefans.com and you'll see why the Pirates really wouldn't want to move him, they're having enough trouble with pissed off fans now a days they can't afford to trade thier one flashy player especially if they're not getting a very nice package in return which I would never serve up to Pitt for Wilson. $20.2M over the next 3 years for a career .265/.305/.372 hitter. Just for the record Uribe is .257/.300/.423 and Cintron is .280/.318/.409. Oh damn, that contract is horrible. I rescind my suggestion.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) The Sox sent out an announcement prior to the season - all club level and scout seats were sold out to season ticket holders. The only way to get them now is via a broker or someone like THE WOOD (who is selling a bunch of his seats over in the ticket exchange for fave value, and who is good to do business with). That's good insight. Thanks for the info.

    SS Help

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) Overpayed, overrated, expensive to trade for and plays in the weak NL, which makes switching over to the superior league in the middle of the season incredibly risky. If he's overpaid, wouldn't he be easier to acquire? The switch to the superior AL could be a problem. Too bad we don't have a hitting coach who could return him to the .308 hitter he was in 2004.
  19. I appreciate Greg Walker's history with the Sox organization, but I'm interested in finding a hitting coach better than him. I want a hitting coach as good at his craft as Don Cooper is as pitching coach. Coop has the ability to find and fix fringe pitchers like Loaiza, Contreras and Thornton, and I'd like a hitting coach who could do the same with hitters.
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Crede and Uribe have banned you from the ballpark for bad-mouthing them here. Did you check to see if they're sold out for the season? Those are the best seats in the house, IMO, and I'd imagine that they'd sell out quickly. Thanks for the quick responses guys. I have not checked to see if they're sold out for the season because I'm not aware of how to do that through ticketmaster's web site. I chose a specific game and attempted to search for best available in the club section, but that section wasn't an option on the pull down menu. The only thing I could think of as to why I couldn't search club level was because they were sold out to season ticket holders. I then came here to get better insight. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) But I would be more than happy to sell you my tickets in the CLUB for tonights game. Too cold for me. When it comes to attendance, I'm a fairweather fan. I'm too poor to go to many games so I have to pick my spots wisely.

    Uribe

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) Pauly grounded into a double play today, so I'm guessing a "Paul Konerko is overrated" thread is next. Either that, or a thread bashing Hawk and DJ for not recognizing this fact. How come those with differing opinions than me on the topic of Juan Uribe write posts questioning my baseball intelligence and/or putting ridiculous opinions into my mouth instead of stating your case for Juan Uribe. My guess: no one can defend such a bad player, so instead attempt to diminish my credibility by tieing me to ridiculous claims like, "Paul Konerko is overrated" and, "I'm assuming Tadahito Iguchi will be the next to feel shoota's wrath?"--two completely false statements that I've never stated.
  22. How come I cannot buy a single game ticket for the club level on ticketmaster.com? Can I purchase a single game club level ticket at the box office?

    Uribe

QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jun 10, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) I'm sorry, but "the White Sox are 4th in runs scored" or "the White Sox have the second best record in baseball" arguements are bulls*** ones to use in defense of Uribe or Anderson's pathetic offensive production. Did it ever occur to you that the White Sox would be FIRST in runs scored or have the BEST record in baseball if either of these s***faces could hit their f***ing weight? Did it ever? At least Anderson's defense has been superb.......Uribe, on the other hand, cost them the Sunday Cubs game and nearly cost them yesterday's game. The only thing he has been good at lately is impregnating his wife. Awesome.
