  1. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 8, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) According to my dad he heard a rumor on the radio that the sox might trade CQ for griffey jr. He claims it even came out of Kennys mouth. So whos the idiot my dad or KW for even thinking about this. Sorry Pops.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 8, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) Kanny wins 4-3 Carter not great, but still very good: 5 inn, 4 hits, 3 runs (2 ER) 2 BBs and 7 Ks. ERA at 1.66. Carter had a rough 1st two innings, but looked very good the next three. Only allowed one baserunner in innings 3-5. Struck out the side in the 3rd.
  3. Interesting... The Knights trade their SS for a 2B... When they have Getz at 2B now, and Richar is coming back. It will be interesting to see how the middle infield spots shake out in the next few weeks.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) He was being sarcastic. Your point is certainly valid, but Mauer and Morneau in their careers have hit NOWHERE NEAR as well against lefties as righties, which is the issue me and many others had. Luckily, it worked out. Yeah, I wasn't looking to pick on a specific poster. I just wanted to point out that Linebrink has historically been much more effective against lefties than our lefty specialists have been.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) No, it was a terrible decision, you have to play the left match-up against Mauer and Morneau. We got incredibly lucky Linebrink didn't give up a run. Ozzie in an idiot. So... the fact that Linebrink has a career .219 BAA against lefties shouldn't factor into it, eh? Go for the left/left matchup... Thornton = career .254 against lefties Logan = career .255 vs. lefties Yeah, Ozzie... what an idiot
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) This is the first time I can ever remember that I honestly had no idea the Sox were playing this afternoon. Wow. A sure sign of aging... It's all downhill from here Tony.
  7. Well written, but I'm not into articles that pander to "the glass is freakin' empty" crowd... which is what this is IMO.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 8, 2008 -> 07:57 AM) Jeez, looks like I jinxed some guys by pointing out the solid pitching. Cassel, Rasner and F. Hernandez all got rocked last night. Yeah, I thought about that, but I didn't want to say anything. Hopefully, it was only a one-day curse. I'm sort of surprised they let Cassel keep going after giving up 6 runs in the first inning. Probably figured the game was lost so why burn the bullpen... just let him get his work in.
  9. The impact of blogs in sports journalism (and journalism in general) is fascinating, isn't it? Because there is no accountability ("it's not journalism... it's only a blog"), the level of sensationalism to grab readership keeps increasing. If Cowley had written an article titled "The Reaper is a coming" with the same comments he had in his blog, he'd be blasted for his lack of journalistic integrity and failure to validate his sources. But he moves it two inches to the right on the SunTimes sports page and it's ok... 'because it's only a blog'.
  10. Winston-Salem won 5-0. OUTSTANDING outing for Poreda!!! 7 innings; 1 run; on 1 hit; 7 strikeouts; 1 walk. He had a no-hitter through 5 innings and then gave up a homerun in the 6th... that's all. Brandon Allen had 3-hits; John Shelby had 2-hits; and so did Fernando Hernandez. Allen now has an 8-game hitting streak going!! And he's 5-10 in the last two games. Lee Cruz with a hit... has now hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_lynafa_1
  11. Kannapolis is playing a doubleheader. They lost the first game 3-1. Rice went the distance (6 innings), but got no run support. Kanny only got 2 hits. Rice only gave up 1 hit. He struck out 6 and walked 3. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_lcoafx_1 Levi Maxwell is getting the start in game 2. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_lcoafx_2 This ought to be interesting. He has been absolutely lights out as a reliever, but this is his first start. He's coming into the game with a 0.47 ERA. Edit: Kannapolis lost the second game 2-1. Nice outing for Maxwell, but he lost despite giving up only 1 hit and 1 walk in 4 innings.
  12. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 6, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) Can getz play OF too? I was replacing Ozuna's superutility role not comparing getz and bourgeois. Yes. Although Getz's primary position is 2B, he also plays SS, 3B, and CF. Here's a quote from a 2006 mlb.com article about him... "Getz represents a new kind of player coming in via the draft, guys who can fill super-utility roles right off the bat. One of the best pure hitters in the draft, Getz spent most of last summer (2005) with Kannapolis, where he hit .304 and drew 35 walks vs. only 10 strikeouts. Mostly a second baseman at Michigan, Getz can also play short, third, even center field, where he can use his plus speed to be a Chone Figgins type. If he doesn't end up being an everyday player at one spot, he could be a guy who gets 450 ABs moving around the field."
  13. QUOTE (heirdog @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Before yesterday, Bourgeious was tearing the cover off the ball in his last 8 games. He may be hot right now so take advantage of it. You just want to look at his last 8 games 'before yesterday'... interesting. Why not the last 10 games including yesterday? I guess averages look much better when you don't have to factor in the 0 for 5 days, eh? BTW - in the last 10 games Bourgeois (12hits/39at-bats) and Getz (10/33) are batting roughly the same average-wise (.308 vs. .303). But of Bourgeois' 12 hits, he has 1 double and 11 singles. Getz's 10 hits include 7 singles, 1 double, and 2 homeruns.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Check out that inning LOL. 5 runs on 2 hits... both singles. Nice of Montgomery to help us out with 2 walks, 3 errors, and an HBP. Talk about meltdown.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) B-Ham @ Montgommery, underway, down 4-2 through 8. McCulloch had a good 5 innings to start. The Barons with a 5-run 9th win 7-4. I kid you not.
  16. Award bonuses in Uribe's contract... just found this interesting Award bonuses: $100,000 each for MVP, WS MVP; $75,000 for LCS MVP; $50,000 for TSN All Star; $25,000 for Gold Glove, All Star; $15,000 each for Silver Slugger, All Star selection. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005_01_2...ts_archive.html
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 07:40 AM) .343 avg, .361 OBP in his last 9 games. And I don't think they are making this decision based on a month of AAA play anyway. They want the guys they liked for a while before. Owens or Bourgoeis are the likely call-ups, IMO. Yeah, he's been hot in the last week. I like Jason. I just don't see him being a starter. If he was called up to replace Ozuna, I could understand that. But I don't think that solves our 2nd base problem.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2008 -> 07:32 AM) Don't be surprised if Uribe or Ozuna are released, and Bourgeois is brought up. They liked him a lot in ST. Bourgeois currently batting .222 with a .276 OBP. And getting the majority (all) of his at-bats playing outfield.
  19. Both the Tigers and Tribe made similar moves today to shake up their teams. The Tigers DFA'd Jacque Jones and are moving Sheffield to left. They're calling up a AAA outfielder, Matt Joyce, to fill the roster spot. The Indians are releasing Jason Michaels and called up Ben Franciso from Buffalo. Both Jones and Michaels are hitting in the same vicinity (.200 or below) as Uribe.
  20. Kannapolis won 13-8. Nice outing for Nathan Jones. The bullpen caved in a little at the end of what was otherwise a blowout. Kanny got 17 hits. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_lcoafx_1 Charlotte won 5-0. Good outing for Lance Broadway despite throwing over 100 pitches in his 5 innings of work. Eldred hit his 8th homer. He is 3rd in the IL in homeruns. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...chraaa_swbaaa_1 Birmingham lost 2-1. Robert Valido with 2 hits and an RBI for the Barons. Good 7-inning outing for Clayton Richard whose ERA dropped to 2.85. Too bad they couldn't give him more run support. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...biraax_monaax_1 Winston-Salem lost 7-6. John Ely got roughed up, giving up 12 hits and 6 runs in 4-innings. Lee Cruz with two hits. He's now hit in 7 of his last 10 games. Brandon Allen with two hits. Now has a 7-game hitting streak. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_lynafa_1
  21. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ May 5, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) I'd make sure that Ozuna, Ramirez and Russell were gone. I'd bring up Owens and Fields and play them. I'd sit 2 of Thome, Konerko and Dye, probably the first two. BTW - As of today, Fields is batting .240 with a .318 OBP and is leading the International League in strikeouts.
  22. Owens hitting .268 on the season after tonight's (5/5) game. (BTW - Chris Getz is batting .292)
  23. Here are the season stats for 4 Charlotte players after Monday (5/5) night's game... Player AB H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO AVG OBP SLG OPS Chris Getz 89 26 4 0 2 5 36 8 19 .292 .351 .404 .755 Jerry Owens 82 22 4 0 1 5 29 11 17 .268 .355 .354 .708 Josh Fields 96 23 3 0 4 14 38 10 33 .240 .318 .396 .714 J. Bourgeois 108 24 2 1 1 7 31 7 17 .222 .276 .287 .563
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 4, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) This is the same Scott Podsednik that most of Soxtalk wanted to give a blindfold and a cigarette to, right? There haven't been, like, any new Scott Podsednik's created and put into the world of professional baseball, right? Just checking ahead of time LOL. Outstanding.
  25. Glad to hear Pods is doing well. Of course, the Rockies are so impressed with his play that he's their 5th outfielder (on the depth chart), with 1/3 the at-bats of their starters. Perspective...
