  1. QUOTE (stretchstretch @ May 4, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) don't want to draw any conclusions but so many things just keep pointing to the problem being Sox mgmt.--health, performance, attitude, execution, etc. Why are Pods' constant battles with groin injuries a Sox management problem? How did you come to that conclusion?
  2. Birmingham lost to Mobile 8-4. Omogrosso got beat up in 3 innings of 'work'. The only positive I saw was that Joe Persichina got two hits. He was promoted from Kanny to fill a short term spot due to injury, but he's done pretty well during his stay (hitting .353)... might be making it hard to send him back.
  3. Two more hits today (Sunday). That makes him 6 for 13 in 3 games since returning from the DL. Had a nice article about him on milb.com today too. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...b&fext=.jsp
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 4, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Getz could be a good guy to lean on to see what we have...and than after he gets a bit of a chance, if he fails, Richar should be back and ready to get a chance. Exactly. How do we lose in that scenario? And who knows... maybe with his speed and ability to get on base he provides us with a spark that this team badly needs right now.
  5. Kannapolis won their first game 1-0. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_lcoafx_1 Nice outing for starter Johnny Lowe. 6 innings, 0 runs, 2 hits, 4 K's, and 1 BB. Kanny has a second game too. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_lcoafx_2 Charlie Shirek started. Got pulled after 2 innings. Not sure why. It wasn't a great start for him, but probably not 'pullable' material. He only gave up two runs. Just a note: Christian Marrero is starting to heat up. Had his 3rd multi-hit game in the last week today. IMO he is probably the best position prospect on the team. Might be worth keeping an eye on.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 4, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Actually, in all seriousness, Getz probably needs to prove that he can hit triple a pitching (he had never played at that high of a level until this year) before you can give him a shot. Alexei Ramirez has never played at a level as high as AAA either... and that didn't keep the Sox from promoting him. Meanwhile, Getz IS hitting AAA pitching... and he's doing it as well as Owens or Fields... and pretty much right on track with his career averages. So what's the harm in a callup to see how he looks? Think he's going to get on base less than Uribe? That's pretty close to impossible.

QUOTE (MAX @ May 4, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) I'd send up here and give richar a few weeks at 2nd in AAA, see how he performs, then possibly switch them. Getz or Richar... I don't really care which one plays as long as the Sox find someone who can both play defense and hit to play 2B. BTW - I wouldn't give Richar a free pass to get back to Chicago. He's gotta hit and show his 'career year' at Charlotte last year was not a fluke IMO.

QUOTE (MAX @ May 4, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) You mean trade or switch positions? I meant switch positions. Getz can play 2B (his main position), SS, 3B, or CF. Not sure which of those he would be moved to when Richar starts playing. Fields is at 3B. Owens is in CF. Mike Rouse is currently at SS. I don't see Charlotte taking Getz' bat out of the lineup and sitting him. But I'm not sure they're going to sit one of the other guys either. I think the best option may be to send Getz to Chicago.

To give Richar at-bats, they're going to have to move Getz somewhere.
  10. QUOTE (MAX @ May 4, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) Why does he get hit so much? I don't get it. Watch where he positions his arms. He's liable to get hit with any pitch that's high and inside. Some of the pitches he gets hit with are borderline strikes.
  11. Woof... ugly first inning for Egbert... Buffalo Bottom 1st Josh Barfield singles on a line drive to right fielder Dewayne Wise. Danny Sandoval walks. Josh Barfield to 2nd. Ben Francisco pops out to third baseman Fernando Cortez in foul territory. Michael Aubrey singles on a line drive to center fielder Jerry Owens. Josh Barfield scores. Danny Sandoval to 2nd. With Aaron Herr batting, passed ball by Paul Phillips, Danny Sandoval to 3rd. Michael Aubrey to 2nd. Aaron Herr singles on a ground ball to right fielder Dewayne Wise. Danny Sandoval scores. Michael Aubrey to 3rd. Andy Gonzalez grounds into a force out, shortstop Mike Rouse to second baseman Chris Getz. Michael Aubrey scores. Aaron Herr out at 2nd. Andy Gonzalez to 1st. Jason Cooper triples (2) on a fly ball to right fielder Dewayne Wise. Andy Gonzalez scores. Coaching visit to mound. Jason Tyner grounds out, pitcher Jack Egbert to first baseman Brad Eldred. The Knights ended up coming back and tying the game. Then, Dewon Day came in, pitched one inning, and Charlotte lost it 6-4. Classic Dewon... pitched one inning... struck out two... but gave up two hits and a walk.
  12. Charlotte is playing a double-header at Buffalo. Rob Bell started the second game.
  13. Anybody want to take a shot at how many strikeouts Halladay throws today? I'm guessing 12.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 4, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Until someone is dropped from the 40 man, I dont think he will be Meanwhile, he is outhitting Jerry Owens and Josh Fields at Charlotte, and the WhiteSox are looking for a second baseman who can hit. I say find a way to adjust the roster and give the man a ticket to Chicago. He's gotta be BTU (better than Uribe) at this point.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 4, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Honestly I am really disappointed in Pablo this year so far, and I dont think his offense makes up for his lack of defense. Danny Richar cannot get healthy fast enough for me I seriously think we ought to give Chris Getz a look.
  16. A few more notes on Getz... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a summary of his 2007 season, including fall ball from MiLB.com: 2007: Appeared in just 72 games with Double-A Birmingham due to a right shin injury, hitting .299 (83-for-278) with a .382 on-basepercentage. ... Walked 36 times with only 30 strikeouts. ... Was named to the Southern League midseason All-Star Team. ... Reached basesafely in 84.7 percent (61 of 72) of his games with the Barons. ... Did not go more than three straight games without reaching base safely. ... Batted .323 (32-for-99) vs. left-handers (.285 off righties). ... Led off 17 times, hitting .284 (19-for-67). ... Homered to lead off both games of a doubleheader on April 11 at Mobile. ... Was on the disabled list from May 27-July 31 with a bruised right shin. ... Was batting .316 (49-for-155) at the time of his injury (.276 after). ... Reached base safely in his final18 games. ... Hit .278 (22-for-79) with a .360 on-base percentage with Phoenix of the Arizona Fall League. ... Reached base safely in 19 of21 games. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2008: Currently, in 81 at-bats in AAA, Getz is hitting .296 with a .360 OBP. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description of Getz from mlb.com - Spring 2006: "Getz represents a new kind of player coming in via the draft, guys who can fill super-utility roles right off the bat. One of the best pure hitters in the draft, Getz spent most of last summer with Kannapolis, where he hit .304 and drew 35 walks vs. only 10 strikeouts. Mostly a second baseman at Michigan, Getz can also play short, third, even center field, where he can use his plus speed to be a Chone Figgins type. If he doesn't end up being an everyday player at one spot, he could be a guy who gets 450 ABs moving around the field. He's impressed his organization so much that they plan on jumping him all the way to Birmingham to start 2006."
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ May 4, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) I think he'd have to be added to the 40, IIRC. Looks like we still have Andy Sisco listed on the 40-man. Don't we get some sort of exemption... putting him on a restricted list... due to the year long DL stint he is facing? If so, that would open a spot without any other required moves.
  18. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=460051 While the Sox are struggling, everyone is saying 'bring up Owens or Fields to give us a spark'... yet Chris Getz is outhitting BOTH of them... and plays second base... and knows how to take a walk... and can lead off. So... why not give Getz a look? He's healthier than Danny Richar and may be more MLB ready than Alexei Ramirez! The scouting report on him says he's a natural hitter. He hit well at AA (before getting injured last year). He's hitting well at AAA this year. He's solid defensively and can play multiple positions. Over the course of his career he has more walks than strikeouts. And he bats left-handed. The only knock against him is that he repeated AA in 2006-2007. But that seems forgiveable seeing that he was bumped up to AA his first full season in the minors (2006). The Sox are searching for a 2B solution... maybe he is right in front of us.

Here's my lineup: 1. Swisher 2. Thome 3. Quentin 4. Dye 5. Konerko 6. AJ 7. Crede 8. Cabrera 9. Ozuna Why not start off every game with the two guys most likely to walk (Swisher and Thome) followed by the guy who is most likely to hit the ball and drive them in (Quentin)? The current top of the lineup can't seem to get on base with hits (applies to almost the entire lineup actually)... so increase the odds they'll get on via walks. And least then we may have a fighting chance of scoring a few runs.
  21. Birmingham won 3-0. Nice pitching by Torres, Rodriguez, and Link who combined on a 4-hitter. Stephan Gartrell with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...mobaax_biraax_1
  22. The Kanny game was postponed due to rain. Winston-Salem won 8-5. The Warthogs hit 5 homeruns including 3 by John Shelby. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wilafa_wswafa_1
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 2, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) hmmm i dont know much about carter....whered he come from? hes not exactly young, but hes not really old for that league either...if he continues to succeed he will have a good oppotunity to advance.... looking at his K and BB numbers from earlier in his career....looks like this kid may really have figured something out 26th round draftpick by the Sox in 2005. He's only played two years of minor league ball (2006 at Bristol and 2007 at Great Falls.) He just turned 22 in April, so he's league-average age for a pitcher in the South Atlantic League. He's always had good control, but he's definitely taken it up a notch this year. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/C/A...ny-Carter.shtml
  24. Anthony Carter went 5 innings tonight: gave up only 2 unearned runs, on 5 hits, 8 K's, 0 BB's. Drops his ERA to 1.36. And Carter now has 37 K's and 4 BB's in 6 starts (33 innings).
  25. Through 7 innings, Justin Cassel with his best start of the year: 0 runs, 5 hits, 9 K's, 1 BB. Barons leading 1-0 on a David Cook homerun.
