  1. Broadway had a very nice game last night despite getting a loss. 6 innings; 2 runs on 6 hits; 5 K's and 1 BB.

  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) Raise your hand if you would like to have Aaron Cunningham back. ^^^^^^^^^^ Count me in.
  4. Christian Marrero with a nice start to the season for Winston-Salem. Nice to see. I'm still holding out hope that he has some legitimacy as a prospect.

  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Trying to avoid having the worst International League team in history!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LOL. Yep. He's a heckuva triple-A player. Gotta give people in Charlotte a reason to show up.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) KW compared him to Garland a guy he signed to over $35 million worth of contract. It was an obvious overestimation of Jeff's abilities. I think you're making too big a deal out of the Garland comparison. I think the point was simply that he's a sinker ball pitcher (like Garland) who doesn't strike alot of guys out (like Garland)... and the comparison was made to show that type of pitcher can have success in USCF because they don't generate alot of fly balls.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) You are the one arguing sample size. Not me. Its a good thing Marquez isn't in the Sox rotation right now. I'm the one.... what? Your Mac analysis made it look like he only had 17 innings last year. I was only pointing out that if was really 65 innings when you take into account his minor league time. The minor league time is very relevant, because if was able to get the ball across the plate consistently, he would have been in Chicago rather than Charlotte. But he couldn't find home plate with a GPS which is THE reason he only had 17 innings in MLB last year.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) 2008 he pitched 17 innings. Yeah, but he reason he only had 17 MLB innings is because he couldn't get the ball across the plate consistently in AAA either... where he had 48 more innings. In those 48 innings, his BB/9 was 5.5 and he threw 14 wild pitches. Holy Schnikes.... that makes Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn look like Greg Maddux. So we should all be glad Mac only had 17 innings in Chicago last year. Imagine if he had more... Think about it... we were only one bad Mac performance away from watching the Twins take the AL Central title instead of us.
  10. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Well, you are not going to pitch many innings if you get pounded every time out. I mean teams are hitting close to .500 off him already. That is ridiculously bad, and he has walked a batter an inning. Walked 'a batter an inning', eh? Why use averages to make it look bigger than it is? He's walked FIVE PEOPLE... period.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) Marquez... What's the excuse this season? You mean in all of the 5.1 innings he's pitched so far this season?
  12. Kanny recap... Intimidators notch third straght shutout, 1-0, over the Legends 04/16/2009 9:34 PM ET MLB.com LEXINGTON, KY - The Intimidators pitching staff continued to roll on Thursday night, as Charlie Leesman and two relievers combined to shutout the Lexington Legends, 1-0, at Applebee's Park. The shutout was the third straight for the Intimidators, who have not surrendered a run in the last 30 innings. Leesman (2-0) worked six three-hit innings, before Tyson Corley and Charlis Burdie finished off the shutout. Corley pitched the seventh and Burdie got through the eighth and ninth for his first save of the season. The lone run came off the bat of Jon Gillmore, who clubbed his first home run of the season over the left-centerfield fence to lead off the second inning.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Charlie Leesman might move up the ranks quickly. I heard Cooper mention him a couple times during spring training as one of the good arms in minor league camp. Now he's 2-0 with 0.75 ERA. Plus, he's a lefty.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) Its amazing how many people ignored Marquez's numbers last year and bought KW's BS about him. When he pitched well the first week of March I think some were even predicting double figure wins. Although he hasn't been sharp, thank God Contreras is back and thank God Bartolo Colon signed with the Sox. The way Richard has been throwing his last couple of outings and the way Marquez has been lit up, the White Sox could just as well forfeit when their turns came up if they were the 4th and 5th starters. Why did people 'ignore' Marquez's numbers last year? Pretty simple. It was the first time in the minors he had an ERA above 3.65 and it happened to be in a year where he dealing with an injury. He has a 2:1 career K/BB ratio and last year it was much worse than that (33K's and 24 BB's). He gave up almost 3X as many homeruns per inning pitched as his career average too. In other words, the year screamed anomaly. Despite the recent popularity of Marquez bashing, he has very good movement on his pitches, particularly his slider... and his curveball is a very nice pitch. But, he needs... badly... to develop another pitch. Preferably one that will help him miss more bats.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) My god, that was a really crappy game. But a win's a win. Nothing crappy about a low scoring win. Our pitching only gave up 5 hits and struck out 10? I'll take games like that any day.
  16. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Are you SERIOUSLY going to walk Gross and have to face Pena with the bases loaded?? Nope!
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) Look at his strikeout rate last year... Need one now... BAD.
  18. I have that same sick feeling I get when we're playing the Twins.
  19. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) Yea, what's with the cowbells in Tampa? I don't get the connection: Devil Rays... Tampa... Florida... cowbells??? Rednecks. That's the connection. Boatloads of rednecks in Florida.
  20. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) So, should I expect to see Jeffrey Marquez soon in B'ham? Nah. Charlotte doesn't have much hope this year. They might as well keep throwing him out there and seeing what they can squeeze out of him.
  21. Kannapolis pitching does it again. Third consecutive shutout. 1-0 win

Greg Paiml to 2nd on the throw. * Jim Gallagher grounds out, second baseman Jose De Los Santos to first baseman Kent Sakamoto.
  23. Marquez had a pretty brutal outing. Knocked out of the game in the 4th: gave up 7 runs on 8 hits; walked 4 and struck out 2.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) Gameday isn't working. I know it's 2-0 Barons. Flowers tripled, Viciedo singled scoring Flowers , but I don't know what happened before that. 1st Run: Lee Cruz doubled. Then he came home when Shelby grounded to the 3B who made an error.
  25. Marquez gives up a solo homerun to Wieters in the 1st.
