  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) I'm listening to the radio for the W-S game, never done that before. The announcer, going solo, is actually pretty good. I love listening to the broadcasts. You pick up so much more than you can by reading the milb.com summaries. And you're right. The quality of the announcers is better than most people might think. Even in the rookie league games.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) Should be some interesting pitching tonight. 2 guys looking to make the ML roster soon that have been pretty disappointing in McCulloch and Marquez. And two guys who are a little too old for their leagues that are pretty solid pitchers in Leesman and Shirek. I expect both of those guys to move up a level by midseason, Shirek to AA and Leesman to High-A. Why is Leesman too old for his league? He just turned 22 in March. BTW - that makes him slightly younger than DCarter and Dan Hudson and just a few months older than Infante and Garrett Johnson. So all the starting pitchers in Kanny are roughly the same age.
  3. Note: The Kannapolis game is on MiLB-TV tonight. You have to be a subscriber to watch it. But it's pretty cheap for a season of minor league games. ($29.95) Plus you get the All-Star Games and playoffs. The AA all-star game is in Birmingham this year. Should be well represented by Barons.

  5. One of Beckham's three errors this season was attributed to him, but was not really his fault.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) That said ... just end the MacDougal experiment. Just kick him out the door and let the Yankess pick him up so he can finally rejuvenate like Swisher. Funny to think that Swisher has a lower ERA than Mac, isn't it?
  7. Charlotte lost to Norfolk 3-2 in a day game. Whisler had a decent outing. Russell blew the save and took the loss. Barons back in action after an off day. On the road against Tennessee. Omogrosso with the start. Game at 7:15 CDT Winston-Salem @ Lynchburg Anthony Carter pitching Game tied 1-1 in the 3rd on a Christian Marrero homerun. Kannapolis won a day game at Lexington 6-0. Steven Sauer with the win in relief. Nice outing for all the pitchers. Matt Inouye with a double and a homerun. Persichina hit 2 doubles. Gilmore got his first hit. 8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) Ozzie has written it off, as evidenced by putting in Richard and MacDougal. You're right. What was I thinking?
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) can someone explain to me why rich harden is so hard to hit? he throws a fastball straight as an arrow ....occasionally hes upper 90s, but most of the time hes 92-94.....he gets so many swings and misses on it, its unbelievable When he throws the fastball, he is able to spin the ball in different directions by the way he grips the ball. Makes it seem like 3 different pitches with the same motion... very hard for hitters to pick up.
  10. Nice outing for JVB last night in Charlotte's 3-1 win. 5 innings; 1 run on 6 hits; 6K's and 1BB. Egbert picked up the save.
  11. Why not give Pods 77? He's going to need all the luck he can get to stay in MLB.
  12. Norfolk @ Charlotte Pauley vs. Van Benschotten Winston-Salem @ Lynchburg Long vs. McSwain Kannapolis @ Lexington Infante vs. Greenwalt
  13. QUOTE (Cubano @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) In the juniors, Viciedo even pitched and played SS. He would be one large shortstop, wouldn't he? The Kirby Puckett of shortstops.
  14. A few respectable performances easy to overlook in the Charlotte game... - Carlos Torres: 5 innings pitched; gave up 2 runs on 6 hits; struck out 7 and walked only 1. - Jimmy Gobble pitched 1 inning striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. - Jon Link pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 0 runs on 1 hit.
  15. I knew we had him playing out of position. Consider what this means. He's outhit Betemit so far this year... AND he's thrown more innings in MLB than Marquez and Nunez combined.
  16. Beckham, Flowers, and Allen batting 2, 3, and 4... How about those batting averages? .444, .417, and .412 Pitchers beware!
  17. Norfolk @ Charlotte Tillman vs. Torres Norfolk is the Orioles AAA team. Wieters is batting 3rd for them. Chattanooga @ Birmingham Adkins vs. Ely Winston-Salem @ Lynchburg JLowe vs. Mildren W-S up 3-0 after 3 innings. Kannapolis @ Lexington Garrett Johnson vs. Bono Didn't know Bono even liked baseball. 18. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 03:53 PM) How about we let Jordan Danks, who is in high A work on his strikeouts, and getting comfortable against lefties before we move him up. He is not ready. ^^^^^^^^^^^ He has struck out 8 times in 17 at-bats in high A-ball. Imagine what major league pitchers would do to him.
  19. And now he's the 4th outfielder in Chicago.
  20. Cowley is reporting (2 minutes ago) that Owens is getting the call.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) Not that I want to see it, but if Wise is hurt I wouldnt put it past them to call up Owens and insert him into the lineup as the every day starter while Wise is on the DL Owens isn't even starting in Charlotte. I think that ship has sailed.
  22. If Wise is hurt, don't be surprised if Miguel Negron is called up instead of Kroeger.
