  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 5, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) Good thing we haven't seen one of those in quite a while. This is the KW mode. There are no true rebuilding years - its a continuous thing (which he is not always successful at). But you just won't see a KW-run Sox team that is ever in a "rebuilding" mode like you see some other teams do. ^^^^ KW's M.O.... Rebuild somewhere around 1/3 of the team every year, so you never have to rebuild all of it at the same time.
  2. As I reread this thread, I can't help but think... Wow, amazing what a 3-game losing streak can do to some fans.
  3. QUOTE (Sockin @ May 4, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Poreda was apparently credited with a no hitter. Hmmm... looks like your right. I wasn't sure a 5-inning rain-shortened game went in the books as an official no-hitter.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 4, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) I think everyone goes overboard on Walker for the offense year after year. ^^^^^^ Funny how we didn't hear much about Walk when we were 6th in MLB in runs scored last year.
  5. Just looked at last year's standings... One year ago today, we were one game below .500.
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 4, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Beta Meet... Is now Beta Meat.
  7. Barons' game ended early due to rain. 3-0 good guys. Poreda with a 5-inning no-hitter. Too bad it doesn't count as a no-no.
  8. AAA is probably more important for hitters than pitchers. It's the place where hitters will see the best breaking stuff they face in the minors. Skip that experience and most hitters will have a tough transition against major league pitching. But for pitchers... different story. If you've got the stuff and command over your stuff, you can jump from AA to the majors. Most pitchers in AAA are either there: a. to add a pitch, or b. to develop better control/command, or c. because they're not good enough to stick on a major league roster
  9. Winston-Salem got rained out. So, it's just Charlotte and Birmingham going tonight.
  10. I agree that pitching is very important. A quick scan of team stats shows that there is a fairly close correlation between team ERAs and where they are in the standings. But..... Do you realize that we are currently 2nd from LAST in the AL in runs scored this year? I knew we were struggling offensively but I wasn't paying close enough attention to realize where we stand versus other teams in the league. Only Oakland has scored fewer runs. Given that, I'm not feeling too bad about being .500 right now.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Shame on you KW and Ozzie...this is not a competitive team you're putting on the field. +1 Gotta make a better showing on national TV than having a lineup where Corky Miller bats 6th. Our pathetic offensive showing tonight was a foregone conclusion with the dead weight we threw out there.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ May 3, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Yeah, but this inning has potential to be another ugly black mark on his resume. I am VERY happy to eat my words. Nice job by Carrasco to bail out of that.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 08:26 PM) When you're 5 foot tall, it's hard to catch those. LOL. Exactly what I was thinking while watching him 'jump'.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 08:22 PM) BTW, outside of that first Twins game, Carrasco has gone a great job as our long reliever. Yeah, but this inning has potential to be another ugly black mark on his resume.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ May 3, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Pride? GMAFB. Time to move on. Thanks for 2005 and thanks for busting your ass to get back here Jose, but it's time to go. There are 10 million reasons the Sox won't release him.
  16. The sad part about this lineup for me... It's a national television game. At least make it look like we're trying to win. I'm just thankful Ozzie isn't leading Lillibridge off tonight. Saves us the humiliation of explaining to the baseball world why we're letting a guy with a .143 average get more at-bats per game than anybody else.
  17. Didn't Ozzie bring in Carrasco to hit somebody in retaliation in one of our Texas games last year?
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) He was on 1st base. But still... He was, eh? I guess I'm too damn depressed from the Bulls game to be paying adequate attention.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:31 PM) For his size, you're right. I didn't see if he could have made it or not. Thome's hit went into the right hand corner. Can't imagine why a third base coach wouldn't send a guy who was on 2nd base home. Anybody should have been able to score on that play. But Cox put up the stop sign.
  20. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) LMAO. Josh can't run. We need another one here. Josh actually runs pretty well. What I can't understand is Cox's decision making process. He'll send a guy like AJ or Thome when it's obviously not a good idea... And he holds up Getz and Fields when sending them seems like a no-brainer. WTH?
  21. Any chance that Betetmit could play a little corner outfield?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Just more proof that 2005 was a magical season for the White Sox. Every team that wins the World Series has a magical season.
  23. We need some lightning... that always freaks out umps... and maybe threat of a funnel cloud. That ought to do it. Come on mother nature. Bail us out.
  24. Ozzie the brilliant strategist... Telling the pitchers to keep giving up hits to stretch out the inning in hope of a rainout.
