  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) At the end of this thread, Jake Peavy is either going to be the greatest pitcher who ever lived or the biggest tool. LOL. Very good DA. And so true.
  2. Nice outing for Stephen Sauer in Kanny's 5-1 win. 6 innings; 1 run (unearned) on 4 hits; 9 K's and 0 BB's. And Jon Gilmore went 3-4 at the plate. Interesting to look at Sauer's strikeouts and walks... on the season... 35 K's and 1 BB in 25 innings pitched.
  3. Toledo @ Charlotte Bonine vs. Cassell Birmingham @ West Tennessee McCulloch pitching Myrtle Beach @ Winston-Salem ACarter pitching Hagerstown @ Kannapolis Sauer with the start
  4. I'm going to propose a counter-suggestion to the above. I run several websites and have ditched godaddy, dream-weaver, etc. (I've spent a ridiculous amount of money on tools in the past.) IMO, find yourself a quality host like hostgator.com, and run your entire website using Wordpress. Setup is simple, edits are easy... it's easier to keep your site fresh with content. You don't need to learn HTML or buy an HTML editor, and the software is free. Wordpress is a tool designed for blogs, but you can do pretty much anything you want website-wise with it. In fact, alot of professional websites have made the same sort of conversion I describe above. If you want more input on this, I'll be glad to talk with you about it. Here's an example of a template that can be used to create a professional website using wordpress. (I bought this one recently.)
  5. Kanny beat Lakewood 4-1 Nathan Jones picks up the win in relief. Check out these numbers for Kannapolis pitchers today... 17 strikeouts and ZERO walks. (Sauer 8, O'Neil 1, Jones 5, and Remenowsky 3.) I have my fingers crossed and I'm knocking on wood as I say this, but Nathan Jones looks like he's starting to figure out where the strikezone is... and that could be a very interesting and good thing. On the season, he has 21 K's vs. 6 BBs in 14.2 innings. Also, Steven Sauer has 26 K's and 1BB on the season. Nice ratio.
  6. Carolina @ Birmingham McCulloch with a respectable outing Allen with a double and a couple of RBIs Game tied 3-3 in the 8th.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 14, 2009 -> 01:27 PM) There is nothing to indicate Josh Fields' strikeout rate is an abberation. He's struck out 189 times in 540 major league AB and struck on 512 times in 1682 minor league AB. He might not strike out 200 times, but he's going to be up there. I know... and I'm sorry but I get to the point I want to puke sometimes because of the "world is ending" negative posts. 200 strikeouts is quite an accomplishment. Consider that Jim Thome, a consummate strikeout artist over the course of his career, has never struck out 200 times in a season. But Fields has a bad couple of weeks and now all the "Josh is a bust" and "he'll have an epic number of strikeout" threads come out of the woodworks. I guess I'm past being surprised. It's just that I'd prefer to have some intelligent baseball conversation for a change.
  8. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 14, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) Hes not a bust yet. But kenny will have explain to everyone what excuse this year when fields does strike out 200 times. No injury this time. Why is it that against all logic that people LOVE to make season projections off of small samples? Sure if Fields continues to hit like he has recently he'll strike out 200 times. And if what's happened so far this year continues... Dotel will finish the year with a 0.00 ERA. Linebrink a 0.75, Jenks a 1.50... shoot if these trends continue, we may have the best year of any bullpen in history. And Buehrle? Projects to win 23-24 games. And the Blue Jays, Rangers, Reds, and Brewers will ALL win 100 games.
  9. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ May 13, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) 2 mods that went to SIU, i like this B) Congrats! Three.
  10. Keep in mind with Jose... He's not there to throw fastballs or win games. He's there to get his offspeed stuff working again. So the fact that he threw more strikes than balls is a good sign. And even though he was throwing against a AAA team, Scranton-WB is far and away the best offensive team in the International League... averaging about 6.5 runs per game.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 12, 2009 -> 11:13 PM) Just so you know . . . Of the 110 starting pitchers with at least 30 IP this season Gavin Floyd ranks: 110th in ERA at 7.32 109th in WHIP at 1.88 109th in Hits allowed with 53 t-108th in Wild pitches with 5 105th in VORP at -4.9 Definitely overachieving at regression.
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 12, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) But, I saw Danks' first 3 AB's. First impressions, he's definitely got the tools and the talent...and the height, goodness, I think he's actually 6'6" or 6'7". ^^^^^^^^^^^^ My first thought when I saw him play in the Arizona Fall League.... "OMG, he should be playing in the NBA". Very tall and very athletic. Baseball America called him THE most athletic player in the 2008 draft.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 12, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) Would anyone be upset if they heard after the game the Sox just released Lillibridge? Seriously, this guy is making Andy Gonzalez look like a major leaguer. Please... you and I couldn't make Andy Gonzalez look like a major leaguer.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) Infante got hit around for the 2nd outing in a row. Coming back down to earth a bit. ?? Last time out he gave up 1 run in 6 innings. And this is the first game all year he's given up more than 3 runs.
  15. White Sox prospects Aaron Poreda, C.J. Retherford win Southern League honors CLEVELAND -- Double-A Birmingham left-hander Aaron Poreda was named the Southern League pitcher of the week and infielder C.J. Retherford was named the league's batter of the week for the week ending May 10. Poreda was 2-0 in two starts, including a five-inning no-hitter that marked the Barons' first no-hitter since April 5, 2001. Retherford was 8-for-21 (.381) with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and 11 RBIs in five games.
  16. Charlotte @ Scranton Whisler vs. Wang Carolina @ Birmingham Ely on the mound Lynchburg@ Winston-Salem Game over: WS lost 6-2 Kannapolis @ Lake County Kanny losing 4-1 in the 7th
  17. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Was Sean Tracey fined? Should have been arrested... Attempting to impersonate a pitcher.
  18. Just saw that Soria went on the DL with a strained rotator cuff. 15-day DL although the Royals are not sure when he will be ready to return.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) That pretty much seals it, IMO. Ward to DL, Cook to Charlotte. Question, though... if Anderson or Wise do their rehab in Charlotte, do they take up a roster spot down there? I saw a quip last night that suggested Anderson will spend a couple of days in Charlotte... probably this week... and could be back with the big club by Friday. This could result in Lillibridge going to Charlotte. Not sure if/how that affects roster management decisions for the Knights, but it might.
  20. Charlotte's roster is heavy on infielders and light on outfielders. It would make perfect sense to promote Cook since he can play multiple positions. A change might be good for him at this point too. He absolutely dominated the Southern League last year. Destroyed it. Not sure keeping him there this year is helping him. In fact, it could be hurting him.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 11, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) I do like Getz a lot. I hope he gets out of this offensive funk soon. In his last eight games, he's 5 for 32 with 3 walks and no RBIs. Immediately preceding this funk, he had seven out of eight games in which he had 2 or more hits with 6 RBIs and two walks. Lots of ways to slice and dice numbers... Going into tonight's game, he was 4-13 (.307BA and had a .400 OBP) over the last 4 games. The problem was that he went 1-14 in the 3 games before that... which were the first few games after coming back from his finger injury. Didn't do too well tonight. 0-5 with 5 LOB... tough night. Had a few nice plays in the field though.
  22. Charlotte lost 6-0 despite Knight's pitching only giving up 1 earned run... thanks to 4 errors.
  23. 8-1 Barons after 5 innings.
  24. Charlotte @ Rochester JVB pitching Carolina @ Birmingham Harrell pitching W-S Has the night off Kanny @ Lake County Justin Edward pitching
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) You have to wait a year before trading him. Even if he signs a major league contract?
