Kroeger would have had a shot if he was hitting better in Charlotte. Batting .244 in that bandbox isn't going to earn him a promotion. BTW, Buddy Bell attended the games Wed-Thurs before the call was made regarding who was going to be called up. Gotta figure he was there to assess who was ready to fill in once the decision on Carlos was made official.

5/11/2009 - CJ named Southern League Hitter of the Week CJ Retherford joined Poreda on the awards ceremony this week as the second baseman was chosen as the Southern League's Hitter of the Week. The 5-10 Retherford doesn't garner the same attention as some of his teammates, but he's put up better numbers than most all of them on the season. The Chandler, Az. native batted .381 on the week while hitting two home runs and knocking in a league-high 11 runs. His .905 slugging percentage on the week was also a league-high, and he now leads the league in that category on the season at .651. He currently has the top average on the Barons at .337 and is second on the team in both home runs (5) and RBI (19).

Birmingham up 3-0 in the 5th. Omogrosso just gave up his first base hit of the game with 2 outs in the top of the 5th.

Oakland does have a glut of outfielders and a hole at 3B. And while Fields has struggled with obp in the majors, he did well obp-wise in the minors. Hmmm...

The starting pitcher the White Sox WILL acquire
scenario replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why are we talking about Haren? Because there is absolutely no way the DBacks are going to gut their minor league system for a reasonably priced front-line starter and then turn around and deal him for prospects. Not.going.to.happen -
QUOTE (flavum @ May 27, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) Kannapolis bats woke up, and Dexter Carter had a nice outing. His line scores scream raw talent. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...87&sid=t487 In 51 innings, 70 K's and 11 BB's. Nice ratio. Seems like whatever control issues he had in college are no longer a problem.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Ideally, Winston-Salem will have some good offensive prospects after the draft. Right now, Morel and Marrero are carrying these guys. Dale Mollenhauer too. Morel, Marrero, and Mollenhauer. The 3M Boys.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) We need Gavin Floyd to pretend the Angels are the Pirates tonight. I think this will be the first time he's ever pitched in Angel Stadium. If so, that could be a good sign. He's done well in his first go-around at most AL parks.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 27, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) I mean, the kid is what, 6'4", plays a plus CF and hits for avg and some pop? There hasnt been many of those in our system. Looks like 6'6" when you see him in person.

Jordan Danks now batting .391 at Birmingham.

Jordan Danks is sure making this minor league stuff look pretty easy... .322/.409/.529 at Winston-Salem in 118 at-bats .367/.449/.467 at Birmingham so far

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) I'm glad its not just me. I see a lot to like in him. Also, random off topic... What is up with David Cook? Put aside for a moment the whole age and not-a-prospect thing, and let's just look at his AA numbers in 2008 and 2009: 2008: .313/.467/.577/1.044 (which is just sick, especially in that ballpark) 2009: .218/.353/.435/.788 How does that happen? Was his injury late last year something chronic? Does he have a flaw in his approach that the league figured out (which may also explain the Sox sending him back down to AA)? Something else? His IsoBB is still nearly the same: .135 this year, .154 last year, both very good numbers. but his AVG and slugging are way, way down. And he's better protected in this lineup. Theories? Depression.... looking at all the talent around him that is going to be playing for the WhiteSox... while he may miss his chance. And as a result, he's pressing to keep up with them and making it worse. No proof... just a theory.

Who the hell cares what the other team's pitchers think? If it works, it works. Keep doing it. I hate all this unwritten protocol crap.
-
The WhiteSox have won 15 out of their last 20 games in Anaheim. Might have to start calling it Comerica West.
-
Jim Thome is hitting .371 with four home runs, 12 RBIs and eight runs scored over his last 12 games. He has 18 walks in his last 17 games.

Charlotte tomahawking the AAA Tribe 11-1 in the 8th. Where did all that offense come from?

QUOTE (flavum @ May 24, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) Sauer's control must be outstanding. Just noticed that so far in today's game he has 11 groundouts to 1 flyout.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) According to Barry Rozner, this isn't over yet. That's my opinion too after reading the 'official' comments from both sides last night.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 22, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) Vazquez only flaw was not living up to the hype. That... and getting paid $10M per year to put up a horse**** ERA for 2 of the 3 seasons he was here.
-
Not to worry. We'll likely reacquire him... again... if we have a need for roster filler next year.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:45 AM) Gilmore sucks. He sucked in April... batting .143 in 70 at-bats. Looks pretty good in May... batting .324 in 71 at-bats... including going 15-38 (.395) over his last 10 games. Also, he struck out 20 times in April... only 5 times so far in May. Sounds like he's adjusted to the pitching in low-A.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) What gets the most news time tonight over Baseball TN or MLB channel-this absolute beat down or the Peavy story? Easy. The Peavy story. Because Sox games never get any attention... WhiteSox that is.
