  1. Somebody must have hit Cole Armstrong with the paddles, because it's the first time he's shown a pulse all year. 3-4 so far tonight with 2 RBIs in Charlotte's 4-2 win.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2009 -> 07:57 PM) Ok...based on the previous 2 at bats...JD, time to lay down the bunt. Keep bunting til we make an out.
  3. Kanny up 3-1 after 5 innings. Sauer with 5K's and 0 BB's so far... adding to his ridiculous stats this season... 41K's and 1 BB???
  4. Winston-Salem leading Kinston 7-2 after 5 innings. Lee Cruz 3-3 with 5 RBI's.
  5. Charlotte up 2-1 after 6 innings. Nice outing for Egbert. Pitched 5 innings. Gave up one run on 6 hits. Struck out 6 walked 1. Beckham 1-3 so far, a double. Saw they have Lillibridge playing CF tonight too. Hmmm...
  6. Charlotte @ Toledo Egbert pitching Mississippi @ Birmingham Poreda pitching Kinston @ Winston-Salem ACarter pitching Delmarva @ Kannapolis Sauer starting
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) He's still struggling to throw strikes in the minors though. When he's throwing strikes/pitching ahead of people he's unhittable. Here's the breakout from his 4 games in Charlotte for total pitches and # of strikes. May 13th - 108 pitches: 57 strikes May 18th - 100 pitches: 66 strikes May 23rd - 104 pitches: 66 strikes May 28th - 78 pitches: 52 strikes Decent progress in his last outing. So... it will be interesting to see how his next outing goes. He's scheduled to pitch Tuesday against Columbus. That would also set him up schedule-wise to pitch for the Sox in the double-header on the 8th
  8. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 30, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) So his salary must be $4.35 million during this baseball season. B) Got me. Sad thing turning 50. Can't even remember what year it is. LOL. Castro's contract only runs through 2009, during which his salary is $2.5M... When you consider the season is 1/3 over, that means the Mets have already paid him about $800k. So, we're basically getting him for next to nothing.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) How much was Castro getting paid? $1.85M this year $2.5M in 2009
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) Yeah, I remember that as depression, they don't give details, but it sounded like he got real bad Greinke was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder and depression. Not unusual to see those two things occur together.
  11. Not sure if this was posted earlier, but the Mets threw $1.4M into the deal. Nice.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Richard's basically got 5 pitches he can throw for strikes: 4-seam fastball that averages around 94 that can get up to 95 or 96. 2-seam fastball that averages around 91 with good sinking action. Slider with good sweeping action that can be nasty at times. A solid-good changeup. And I think he might have a bit of a curve as well. In the minors, when he was locating his curve, it was deadly. It comes in as sort of a sweeping hook at about 78 mph. Nasty after looking at a 93-94 mph fastball or a low 90's slider. I hope he starts throwing it up here with some consistency because it makes his fastball and slider much more effective.
  13. Here's a few recipes from the web to help people choke down their crow. Bon appetit. Crow Pie: 1 crow stuffing of your choice salt and pepper shortening flour 2 Pie crust mixes 2-3 hard-boiled eggs Stuff the crow. Loosen joints with a knife but do not cut through. Simmer the crow in a stew-pan, with enough water to cover, until nearly tender, then season with salt and pepper. Remove meat from bones and set aside. Prepare pie crusts as directed. (Do not bake) Make a medium thick gravy with flour, shortening, and juices in which the crow has cooked and let cool. Line a pie plate with pie crust and line with slices of hard-boiled egg. Place crow meat on top. Layer gravy over the crow. Place second pie dough crust over top. Bake at 450 degrees for 1/2 hour. Crow and Mushroom Stew 3 crows 1 Tbsp lard/shortening 1 pint stock or gravy 2 Tbsp cream 1/2 cup mushrooms salt and pepper cayenne pepper Clean and cut crows into small portions and let them cook a short time in the lard/shortening in a saucepan, being careful not to brown them. Next, add to the contents of the pan, the stock or gravy, and salt, pepper and cayenne to taste. Simmer 1 hour, or until tender, add mushrooms, simmer 10 minutes more and then stir in cream. Arrange the mushrooms around the crows on a hot platter. Potted Crow: 6 crows 3 bacon slices stuffing of your choice 1 diced carrot 1 diced onion chopped parsley hot water or stock 1/4 cup shortening 1/4 cup flour buttered toast Clean and dress crows; stuff and place them upright in stew-pan on the slices of bacon. Add the carrot, onion and a little parsley, and cover with boiling water or stock. Cover the pot and let simmer for 2-3 hours, or until tender, adding boiling water or stock when necessary. Make a sauce of the shortening and flour and 2 cups of the stock remaining in the pan. Serve each crow on a thin slice of moistened toast, and pour gravy over all.
  14. MacDougal was called up to the Nats today.
  15. Viciedo 3-4 tonight. That brings his average up to .270. His low # of walks shows he still needs some work on pitch recognition and/or plate discipline.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:43 PM) Not sure what's gotten into Clayton Richard, but I f***in' like it. Confidence in his stuff. This is what he was throwing like in the minors last year. Last year after getting called up, he looked like he was scared to throw balls and as a result dialed his speed and repertoire down. Now, I think he's past the shock of being in the bigs and turning it loose.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:32 PM) No. He has less trade value than Brad Penny right now. So, you're saying Contreras' trade value is less than a penny...
  18. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) what pitcher gets called up from AAA to replace Broadway? Link is looking pretty good. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's Contreras.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) The Mets are talking to anyone who will listen to move Castro. It's not a Sox specific thing. I guess it was a Sox specific thing.
  20. White Sox acquire catcher Ramon Castro KANSAS CITY - The White Sox acquired catcher Ramon Castro and cash from the New York Mets for pitcher Lance Broadway. Source: Chicago Tribune.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Can Beckham take a few days at 2b? He spent more time at 2B than 3B for the Barons.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) Why do the Mets want to get rid of Castro? Schneider coming off the DL. And they like Omar Santos. So Castro is expendable.
  23. The Mets are talking to anyone who will listen to move Castro. It's not a Sox specific thing.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 29, 2009 -> 07:51 PM) If Clayton throws 96 mph like it just said on the Royals' TV screen, why aren't we higher on him as a prospect? That's pretty damn fast. Clayton threw quite a few pitches in the 93mph range while in the minors... and routinely popped up around 95. I think most fans who weren't familiar with him ignored it assuming the minor league guns were off. We're seeing more of it now because he's getting confidence in his pitches at the major league level. Now, if he gets confidence and consistency in his curve, which is a pretty decent pitch, things will really get interesting.
