  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 12, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) Are there any pitchers besides Poreda on the ML radar? The Sox look well-stocked for replacements for Dye, Konerko and Thome, but beyond Floyd, Danks and MB, our future starting pitching is a mite thin. Actually, I think the pitching is becoming one of the strengths of the system. Check out the SoxTalk Top 25 Prospects list that just went up today. And keep an eye on the rotations for Birmingham and Kannapolis this year. Alot of names most fans won't be familiar with right now, but probably will be soon. Kanny's pitching staff is extremely deep... and I wouldn't be surprised if some of those guys fast-track through the system. Just as a taste... Kannapolis pitchers have given up a total of 9 hits in 24 innings in the first 3 games of the season.
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) I was gettting pissed as that was all he threw. With that lead all he had to do was throw fastbnall strikes. The reason he was throwing the slider instead of the fastball is that he has better control over it. I know it sound crazy, but it's true. For most pitchers it's the other way around. But if he has to throw a pitch for a strike, he's much more likely to do it with his offspeed stuff than his fastball. So, he should only be throwing the fastball when he's ahead in the count to keep people honest.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) I guess the word's out on Flowers...he gave up 3 stolen bases tonight He also threw one guy out attempting to steal. I think he'll get challenged alot this year, until he proves himself. But this is only his second full year as a catcher. I think he's likely to improve dramatically.
  4. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Wasserman was lit up too.......... Holy Moly.... I didn't realize that game was still going on. 19-3 Charlotte losing??? LOL. Sounds like lots of people got lit up.
  5. Kanny takes game 1 of the double-header 3-2. Charles Leesman went 6 innings for the win: gave up 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits; 3 k's; 2 BBs Leroy Hunt got the save with one inning of shutout relief. (For those that aren't familiar with it... each game of a double-header in the minors is only 7 innings long.) Offensive star of the game for Kannapolis was 2B Andrew Garcia who went 2 for 3 and drove in 2 runs. Joe Persichina and Justin Greene also got 2 hits apiece. Charlie Leesman
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) Was Doogle's slider moving today? Alot of movement. The only question was if it was going to end up over the plate.
  7. Well... I take back half the bad things I said about MacDougal yesterday. Not all... just half.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) Pujols is the Lebron James of baseball. Lebron James is the Pujols of basketball.
  9. There really is something special about sticking it to the Twins on national TV, isn't there? Especially when you consider they were running their #1 starter against our #5. Love it.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) No excuse for walks there with a 5-0 lead and Dotel's stuff...just come right after the bottom of the order, make them all hit their way on base. ^^^^^^^^^

  12. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Something to watch. He could be pressing to add that power that scouts were surprised he didn't develop in college. Makes sense. Good observation.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) That's been proven to be unreasonable to maintain though. Either he cuts down on the strikeouts or he's in trouble. That's all I'm saying. Yeah. I agree. He's got to cut down on the K's. I haven't seen him enough yet to know if it's a plate discipline issue, an aggressiveness issue, etc. Any ideas?
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) 49 now, and yes I understand, but still. The strikeouts are really high and the BABIP is really high making it hard to imagine a complete turn around. I think his BABIP is high because when he is putting the ball in play, he's hitting it extremely hard. In other words, not seeing-eye hits that are the normal warning sign of impending regression.
  15. QUOTE (Reddy @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 03:01 PM) fox is showing angels/sawks Really? I'm in Rockford and I'm getting the WhiteSox-Twins.
  16. Indians put Scott Lewis on the DL today.
  17. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) You think Wise has ever gone 4-5? EVER? Yes.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 05:01 AM) For the statheads out here: Jordan Danks has a .500 BABIP in the minors. I'm scared for regression to the mean unless he cuts down on those strikeouts. In 40 career at-bats?
  19. Cut him, eat the contract, and let him become someone else's problem. Time to cut our losses and move on.
  20. Winston-Salem won 4-2 The offensive star was Stefan Gartrell who was 2-4 (double and homerun) and 3 RBIs. Beckham also 2-4. McCulloch went 6 innings for the win: gave up 2 runs on 9 hits; struck out 3 and walked 1. Fernando Hernandez had 2 scoreless innings of relief... striking out 4. One scoreless inning for Derek Rodriguez. Another interesting note: Tyler Flowers stole a base.
  21. Charlotte won a rain-shortened game 5-3. Miguel Negron 2-3. Eider Torres 3-3. Javier Castillo 2-3. Whisler went 6 innings: gave up 3 runs on 9 hits; 2 K's and 1 BB. Russell had one inning of hitless relief.
  22. So... in 4 games this year, Cleveland's pitching has given up 9 runs, 8 runs, 12, and 13. A team ERA of 10.50? Better have a good offense.
  23. Winston-Salem survived a bullpen meltdown to win 10-9. They entered the bottom of the 9th leading 10-4. Jordan Danks went 3 for 5. He was a single short of the cycle. He's an interesting stat: W-S had 11 hits tonight... 9 of them for extra bases. 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homeruns. Morel, Logan Johnson, and Dale Mollenhauer each with 2 hits.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) Delmon Young to Minnesota is what Alexei Ramirez is for us. You're being kind to Delmon. Twins fans would ship his *** out of town in a heartbeat.
  25. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) That would be Anthony Carter, not Dexter. I guess Anthony is somewhat of a decent prospect in his own right though. Yes. It was AC not DC. And it really wasn't a bad outing considering. He walked the bases loaded in the first inning, so 3 of his 5 walks came there... and he pitched his way out of it without damage. And 3 of the 5 hits he gave up (and all of Kinston's 3 runs) came in the 5th. So spotty but not bad... 4 scoreless innings out of 5; 3 of those in which he pitched really well.
