April 10, 200917 yr There's a rain/weather delay in CLE right now, too. Very convenient, as the Blue Jays just took the lead in the last inning, 4-3, now with one out in the top of the 5th...oh, well. Adam "Chico" Lind already has 3 homers this season. BTW, Asheville is one of the prettiest settings of all minor league baseball...make sure to check out the Biltmore Estate while you're there, too. Edited April 10, 200917 yr by caulfield12
April 10, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) make sure to check out the Biltmore Estate while you're there, too. Just took a quick look at the history... I didn't realize that the Biltmore estate is the largest home in the US. Interesting. Edited April 10, 200917 yr by scenario
April 10, 200917 yr Dash spot Carter 3 in the first, but so far Carter has walked 3 guys in his first 2/3 of an inning.
April 11, 200917 yr Author Bailed himself out with a strikeout after walking the bases loaded. Now he has himself a nice game going. 5-0 Dash in the 5th. Danks and Logan Johnson with homeruns. Edited April 11, 200917 yr by scenario
April 11, 200917 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Disappointing night for Dexter Carter. 5 innings, 3 earned, 10 base runners. That would be Anthony Carter, not Dexter. I guess Anthony is somewhat of a decent prospect in his own right though.
April 11, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:23 PM) That would be Anthony Carter, not Dexter. I guess Anthony is somewhat of a decent prospect in his own right though. Yes. It was AC not DC. And it really wasn't a bad outing considering. He walked the bases loaded in the first inning, so 3 of his 5 walks came there... and he pitched his way out of it without damage. And 3 of the 5 hits he gave up (and all of Kinston's 3 runs) came in the 5th. So spotty but not bad... 4 scoreless innings out of 5; 3 of those in which he pitched really well. April 11, 200917 yr Author Winston-Salem survived a bullpen meltdown to win 10-9. They entered the bottom of the 9th leading 10-4. Jordan Danks went 3 for 5. He was a single short of the cycle. He's an interesting stat: W-S had 11 hits tonight... 9 of them for extra bases. 5 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homeruns. Morel, Logan Johnson, and Dale Mollenhauer each with 2 hits.
April 11, 200917 yr Author Charlotte won a rain-shortened game 5-3. Miguel Negron 2-3. Eider Torres 3-3. Javier Castillo 2-3. Whisler went 6 innings: gave up 3 runs on 9 hits; 2 K's and 1 BB. Russell had one inning of hitless relief. Edited April 11, 200917 yr by scenario
April 11, 200917 yr Author Winston-Salem won 4-2 The offensive star was Stefan Gartrell who was 2-4 (double and homerun) and 3 RBIs. Beckham also 2-4. McCulloch went 6 innings for the win: gave up 2 runs on 9 hits; struck out 3 and walked 1. Fernando Hernandez had 2 scoreless innings of relief... striking out 4. One scoreless inning for Derek Rodriguez. Another interesting note: Tyler Flowers stole a base. Edited April 11, 200917 yr by scenario
April 11, 200917 yr For the statheads out here: Jordan Danks has a .500 BABIP in the minors. I'm scared for regression to the mean unless he cuts down on those strikeouts.
April 11, 200917 yr Why couldnt Logan Johnson be a player in the majors? He has hit as long as I've seen him play.
April 11, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 05:01 AM) For the statheads out here: Jordan Danks has a .500 BABIP in the minors. I'm scared for regression to the mean unless he cuts down on those strikeouts. In 40 career at-bats?
April 11, 200917 yr QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) In 40 career at-bats? 49 now, and yes I understand, but still. The strikeouts are really high and the BABIP is really high making it hard to imagine a complete turn around.
April 11, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) 49 now, and yes I understand, but still. The strikeouts are really high and the BABIP is really high making it hard to imagine a complete turn around. I think his BABIP is high because when he is putting the ball in play, he's hitting it extremely hard. In other words, not seeing-eye hits that are the normal warning sign of impending regression.
April 11, 200917 yr QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) I think his BABIP is high because when he is putting the ball in play, he's hitting it extremely hard. In other words, not seeing-eye hits that are the normal warning sign of impending regression. That's been proven to be unreasonable to maintain though. Either he cuts down on the strikeouts or he's in trouble. That's all I'm saying.
April 11, 200917 yr It's been 49 AB's, nothing to get worried about, yet. He's been K'ing a lot, but that is something that can be cut down on. Give it time.
April 11, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) That's been proven to be unreasonable to maintain though. Either he cuts down on the strikeouts or he's in trouble. That's all I'm saying. Yeah. I agree. He's got to cut down on the K's. I haven't seen him enough yet to know if it's a plate discipline issue, an aggressiveness issue, etc. Any ideas?
April 11, 200917 yr I'm not pushing the panic button on Danks. I'm just pointing it out. Something to watch. He could be pressing to add that power that scouts were surprised he didn't develop in college.
April 11, 200917 yr Author QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) Something to watch. He could be pressing to add that power that scouts were surprised he didn't develop in college. Makes sense. Good observation.
