Starting rotations for AA/AAA in April, 2009
scenario replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) I think Santeliz will be in the pen, with whichever club. I've read that they're going to have him start. Not necessarily because they project him as a starter. They just want him to get extra work to speed up his development. -
Game on... Link

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) why not? isnt he (Pierre) at least better than owens? I've seen teenage girls with better throwing arms than Juan Pierre. Seriously. Do you remember when we played them last year? I think Thome was on second and someone hit a sharp single to Pierre in left. Cox sent Thome and I though OMG... he's dead. Thome was literally still on 3rd when Pierre got the ball. But there wasn't even a play at the plate. Pierre's throw from left field bounced several times before it got to the shortstop and there wasn't even a chance for a relay. It was quite likely one of THE most pathetic throws I have EVER seen in my life. So... you think people are making fun of Owen's defense??? Oyyy. They'd be riding Pierre's butt out of town on a rail before the All-Star break.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) Does anyone think that Kenny may try and get Pierre really cheap? Yes. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) If LA picks up the entire salary and it only costs something like Jerry Owens, would people be interested? No.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) On Marquez, I haven't seen any of him so far this ST, but it sounds like his results have been promising thus far. How's he looked so far? Nice downward movement on the ball, ability to move it around in the zone, and throwing lots of strikes. The pitch that has surprised me is his curveball. It's got nice break and he's able to throw it in the lower half of the strikezone. So far, so good. Let's hope he's able to keep it going.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) I wonder if Jhonny Nunez has a shot? I'm assuming Nunez is going to be the closer in Birmingham. -
A pitcher with mediocre stuff can go a long way if they have: good control + ability to change speeds. Lance's control has been suspect and there isn't enough variation in pitch speed to fool people. Something has to give.
-
Come on kid. Overcome that fielding error and get out of this inning. You were doing really good.

Harrell showing a 93mph fastball and a really nice changeup. Very good to see.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Where did you read that? I see 4- 3 us. It was, but the Dodgers slapped Kelvin Jimenez around in the bottom of the 9th and pulled out the win.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Well, I'm not sure if he's played in center much. Has he? BB Cube just shows OF for his minor league time. Played there a couple games with the D-Backs. In 2005, he was playing in AAA for the D-Backs and played almost 1/2 the time in CF (60 games in right; 50 games in center). Since then, he's played 1 season of AAA for the Philles and 2 seasons with the Cubs... almost exclusively in RF. Link (I love minorleaguesplits.com) Ackkk... the link doesn't work. Just go to minorleaguesplits.com, type in the players name, click "defense", and then "games by position".

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) Man, Kroeger hits the ball hard. He looks hitterish. Absolutely hitterish. Note to Ozzie... give Kroeger some reps in CF... soon... so we can see how he looks out there.
-
QUOTE (tommy @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) In situation where Beckham plays short Alexei plays CF, who leads off? Lillibridge 2B ? Platoon Getz and Lillibridge at 2B and have them leadoff.
-
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) Does anybody remember who it was that said that Nix was the second best defensive 2B he had ever seen play? Carney Lansford

I don't want to jinx Marquez, but... I've been pretty impressed with him so far.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Haha...he is such a bad base runner. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ For a guy who really only has one tool... you think he'd be better at it.
-
QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) And Ozzie doesn't see it. Nice. Anderson could make it alot easier on us, Ozzie, and the entire organization if he showed he could hit better than .230. But he hasn't yet... and so we have to put up with the consequences. There would be NO centerfield controversy if Brian hit .250 or better.

Crap. I read somewhere that this was a free game today and didn't double check the schedule before posting something about it. And I can't remember where I saw it. Here are the free games: March 2: Seattle March 6: Australia March 8: Los Angeles (NL) March 9: Cleveland March 11: Milwaukee March 16: Kansas City March 18: Los Angeles (AL) March 20: San Francisco March 25: Oakland March 31: Colorado April 1: San Diego

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) Who is chucking for the LAD and the CHW? For the Sox, the schedule pitchers in this game are... Egbert Carrasco Dotel Jimenez Russell

The video webcast of this game is free. So... two Sox games fans can watch going on at the same time. Nice. How often does that happen?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) 2B-303, SS-52, OF-15, 3B-6 About 81% of Getz's career games have been played at 2B. I think it would be a stretch to put him at 3B, 1B or in the outfield more than in "emergency" situations. His minor league career numbers are skewed because of 1.5 seasons of nothing other than 2B. But look at last year in comparison at AAA... 2B - 69 games (58%) SS - 27 games (23%) LF - 15 games (13%) 3B - 6 games (6%) IMO, Buddy's boys were clearly preparing Getz for duty at multiple positions... or at least trying to determine his ability to do so.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Ya, his curve wasn't that good at the major league level but I heard good things about it at the minor league level. It's nowhere near a plus pitch, but its good enough to keep hitters off-balance and help him pile up some k's. Exactly. Not a great pitch, but he needs something to keep people honest if he's going to get through a lineup more than once during a game.
-
One of the pitches that Richard slayed people with in the minors was his curve, which comes in at about 78 mph and helps keep people from sitting on his fastball. If he starts getting that across the plate with regularity at the major league level... that would be really nice. But so far, he hasn't thrown it much yet.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) I really like Chris Getz but I also know Getz could be an incredibly valuable utility guy and if Nix can hit and is anything like I've read about defensively than I'm really intrigued to see what he can do and if these adjustments are for real. Nix is a really good athlete and could be a welcome addition. I definately think the Sox have some pretty talented guys in Getz/Nix/Lillibridge (Getz clearly being the least talented of the bunch, but he just has a beautiful swing and the look of a guy who belongs). Although clearly none are what you would describe as top prospects (although two of the three are former top prospects) as they are all short in the tools department in an area or two. Getz is definitely the least "toolsy" of the three. But he might be the best OBP guy given his ability to hit for average + his very good plate discipline (more walks than Ks in his minor league career).

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) might that stadium destroy his confidence, though? It didn't seem to hurt bangers like David Cook or Brandon Allen. They both had their best years there. I think the reason is that they focused on hitting line drives rather than trying to put the ball in the seats. Cook even suggested in an interview that when he got promoted to AAA, he struggled more because he stopped thinking liner and was trying to take advantage of the Charlotte bandbox and hit the ball out.
