QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) I dunno, I think the McCarthy, Cotts, and Garcia deals all argue against this statement. I dunno about cotts, but the other two I agree with a great degree of certainty.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) Wasnt Contreras known to be pretty much injury free before joining the Sox? I always remember Duque's durability being an well publicized issue, not so much with Contreras though. maybe I just wasnt paying attention, but until Contreras hurt his hamstring/back last year, I thought he was a very durable pitcher. Yeah, there are a ton of differences between el duque and Contreras, my point was that a lot of people considered his career all but over, myself included, and he has had a pretty damn good year thusfar.
-
This thread reeks of 20/20 hindsight bulls***. I'm not convinced it was a bad signing yet either. He might just need the off season or an extended break to heal up. Who really knows? Counting him out for the rest of his career would be foolish. Look at el duque.

I voted. Why haven't you?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 06:10 PM) We all have our own special ways of expressing ourselves. The agree to disagree was lost in the pee pee measuring that was going on earlier. I don't quite understand why it's so hard to disagree and respect at the same time. People are very passionate about their team, especially when confronted with what they perceive to be the thought that they don't even have a chance to compete next year, and especially sox fans, who are used to being in competition perennially.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Oh yes.. incredibly pessimistic. As I budget my $16K payment to the Sox. GMAFB :rolleyes. It's called being realistic. Hoping for the best but not expecting a WS win every year or even a 95 win season. I've done it for the past 30 years - of which it's paid off ONE of those years - and I will continue to do so... Or maybe I could cry and whine and b**** and moan and throw my tickets in the trash like I've read countless times is the only way left to show management that the "fans" are sick and tired of the bulls***. Booo hoo. And I apologize for jumping on you. It's just hysterical and pathetic to me to see one week folks who continue to support the team get called idiots.. then the next get called out for having a realistic opinion of bad ball in the future. Well I never called him an idiot, but I am guilty of questioning his stick-to-it-ive-ness. To say a team "won't compete" before knowing who is on the team is incredibly pessimistic in my mind. If he said, they won't win the central, I might agree, maybe, but I wouldn't be happy about it. But to say they 'won't compete,' that's a little much. Maybe that phrase means something different to him than it does me.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) Of course it's wrong. It's always wrong to have a f***ing opinion around here. Unreal. Its an incredibly pessimistic opinion about the team you are supposedly a fan of, yet you count them out before you even know who is on the team? That just doesn't make any sense in my opinion. My opinion is worth jack s***. Overreact much? Jeez.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) But that's not what Greg was doing. He made several extremely valid points to the state of this club RIGHT NOW and got s*** for it. Anyone can say well you're wrong IF we change this, that, and the other - which was WC's defense. Well no kidding things MAY be different IF changes are made. So far it does not seem Kenny feels that many changes need to be made - from HIS mouth - and if that's the approach, as it's been sooo many times in the past, Greg is spot on and this team will be horse s*** next year for sure and possibly in '09 as well. I am an extremely optimistic fan, overly if you listen to anyone that knows me in "person", and I can see the point Greg was making. I agree and I too see his point but I still think its wrong to say that they won't compete before you even know what your opening day roster is.

QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:06 AM) Bullpen, OF, Ss, 2b.. otherwise we are set... Personally I don't see us coming close to winning anything till 2009 time.. and that is if KW throws in the towel now. No team is solid at every single position. The '05 sox weren't, namely SS. 2B is the cheapest position to replace on the market. That leaves BP and OF. We can afford it. This team is fixable with a few wise moves and the starters are the most important reason why.

He isn't a fantastic fielder, imo. To be a fantastic fielder, you have to have a good arm in my book.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 10:42 AM) His curveball was garbage yesterday. Certainly not the monstrous hook some have been talking about. Guess he left it in the land where Day's slider and Masset's fastball went. I partly disagree. While most of his curves were garbage, with barely any movement, he did throw a few that made me believe he posses that hook. He just needed to throw it more consistently.

Personally I think iguchi and cintron, when healthy, are equal. I still think cintron's arm is jello from some injury.
-
I like to watch josh fields and other prospects to get a better idea what they will bring.
-
Expect Mets to seriously pursue Iguchi
