  1. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) Andruw fell off cause he Tought his body and skill was going to stay 24 forever and he got lazy Why did Dunn fall off? Perhaps because he got lazy too. But no one knows. It could still be an isolated year. But there is a precedent that says it may not be.
  2. Jones actually had a worse year than Dunn in 08.
  3. I finally thought of a guy who fell off at an early age like Dunn. Andruw Jones.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:17 PM) Is anyone willing to bet even $100 that Dunn hits 35 homers with 100 RBI's next year? I doubt it. I'd bet $100 on 25 HR, 80 RBI though.
  5. Crap. They took him out. I think that was premature.
  6. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) The only time the Sox ever finish strong is when they're already eliminated, minus the one constant outlier of 2005. They choke away leads in August and September until they're out, then they have a nice week or two to finish the season. Well there are precedents that show things can go a number of ways, so I won't predict that the sox are out of it just yet.
  7. yeah that was just an oversight I can use history to support my argument too. The tigers blowing a late season lead?
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) And the Sox might continue what they've done all season or worse. I think being almost 5/6 of the way through the season, though, we have a pretty good idea of what's coming. Maybe you do. I don't buy into the idea that our past performance this year is indicative of what will happen for the next 6 weeks. It may provide us with an answer on what is likely, but not what will actually happen.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) What I'm saying is that, yes, it would make their team better. But it doesn't matter because it's already over. For the Orioles, it is in stone that it is already over. For the Sox, it's over in all but the mathematical sense. The Tigers need to play one game over .500 just to get to 87 wins. The Sox need to win 2/3 of their games to get to that same number. It's just not going to happen. The math assumes a lot. The tigers might play 7 games under for all we know.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Well, the title is "Should White Sox place a waiver claim on Jim Thome?" It's an entirely hypothetical situation, so what else would there be besides speculation? The thought that we shouldn't take him because we might hurt his chances at a championship never crossed my mind because as I said, its too unpredictable to pick a champion right now. I'm not even certain which teams are going to be in the playoffs save a few. I thought the thread was made to discuss if the white sox would benefit from claiming him in the long and short term.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) There's been much speculation. It really doesn't even make sense for him to come back. He's already a part-time player having trouble staying healthy even at that, and now he has his 600 homers. Seems like there has been only speculation about a variety of things . . . in this thread.
  12. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Because you're basically screwing the classiest player in baseball (possibly in the entire history of the game) from getting his final shot at a title just because you're too stubborn to admit that you don't really have a chance. Did he say he was going to retire?
  13. He probably still lives in Hinsdale no? I don't think he'd mind coming here. The twins are definitely out of it.
  14. We are very close to out of it, but not quite.
  15. I think we should pick him up. I love the guy. Crowning another team at this point doesn't seem like a smart move to me. I don't care which team you choose. They can go cold in the playoffs.
  16. Doesn't winterizing a bathroom mean you are getting it ready to not be used, as they do in foreclosures, real estate sales, etc.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) Well, at least we know he'll be gone next year as well. The new skipper won't keep him. Should be interesting to see what the franchise is like with new manager/hitting coach/GM. Unfortunately we probably need to keep this pitching coach, but he'll probably be off to Florida with Oz. You think he would follow ozzie? I always thought of him as his own man.
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) He's killing us. That may have been the biggest, saddest out of the season. The ease with which he can be had low and away OR up is scary. Can we see him, Dunn, Rios, Morel etc. with someone besides Walker??? It was certainly the most recent.
  19. Its not even that bad of a game either. I hope the sox take it in the 9th.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Ain't gonna happen.. Indians fan?
