  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 07:56 PM) The Sox need to deal the players who they can get talent in return for. This roster is in desperate need of better players. Such as? You are only going to get talent for talent.
  2. Peavy has one year left on his deal so I wouldn't worry about him. With another offseason he is likely to improve as he continues to heal. He could also have a set back. That's a risk worth taking, I believe. Rios and dunn are virtually untradeable and the smart move, if you have a manager who can manage a team that has two players who are awful, is to hang on to them. Give them a short leash and if they are awful well into may, play someone else. Then if you need to, you do what the giants did and release them. Then you fire kenny if you miss the playoffs. I'm not completely against firing kenny now mind you.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Ummm...no. The White Sox are going to be lucky to get to 72-75 wins if the same thing happens with next year's Rios/Dunn. For sure, they will tear apart the team at the All-Star Break this time around and start getting ready for 2013. Its hard to argue with your opinion when its based on . . . "Um no"? The sox did better than 72 wins this year, and a lot more went wrong than those two. Those two are likely to make some regression toward their career averages on top of it. If they are underperforming and they get benched in mid june, this team will have a shot at the division. I think they may have had 86 or so wins if that had happened this year.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) There's not a thing that's been "easy" about the job he's done thus far. Sox fans are about to learn the hard way what it's like when your team is crippled with multiple albatross contracts and no farm to speak of. Two bad contracts won't kill this team if we have the right manager. Peavy has a buyout after this year right? Dunn or rios could bounce back to somewhere near their career average, but they won't need to if some of the young sox continue to develop.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) Call me dumb, but is Sin City being sarcastic or not? I hate all the sarcasm on the board. If he's being serious, I agree with his first post. You agree with a 6 to 8 year extension?
  6. There is not much I agree with that ozzie said there. He over valued brents speed and undervalued his potential to hit with power.
  7. 6 to 8 years seemed like a lot to me, but you made such a convincing argument that now I'm on board.
  8. He really isnt very small. 5' 11" and 185? Curious about how big some of the people here who are calling him little are.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:20 AM) jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick Manny Ramirez is going to have to scratch those plans to play in the Dominican Republic, an MLB official told ESPN.com. jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick Since Manny has "unresolved drug program violations'' and the Dominican League is affiliated w/ MLB, he is ineligible to play there. Now he is seeking reinstatement.
  10. I was making out with an analogy once, until my mom walked in - couldnt even get a kiss goodbye.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) I hate the little bell that goes off now when a run is scored on CSN. I hadn't noticed but I'm willing to bet that this is going to drive me crazy now.
  12. this thread is based on the idea that things are either black or white. Id say more often than not they are grey.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 22, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) So, birth certificate says 30 but he says 33. Interesting. Maybe his contract isn't that great after all. You have to wonder just because he is from cuba, but I'm thinking it may be just as likely that something was lost in trfanslation.
  14. Ed farmer says alexei said he is 33 today. I've got my tinfoil hat out but I can't decide if I should put it on.
  15. Awards like this don't make any sense to me. The criteria for deciding the winner is a mystery. The giving is really its own reward, and all the reward I would need. I obviously have nothing against it.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 19, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) He's not a cyborg. Age will catch up to him. He's been damn-good this year, but his OPS still dropped 60 points. 36 year olds tend to start sucking quickly. Its like 50 points above his career average this year. I don't know when he will start sucking, but I could see him, the type of hitter he is, lasting longer than most guys. I hope he finds his way to the hall. 400 homers he'll have in april next year. If he could get up above 450 he might have a shot. Hes very well liked, which helps.
  17. Morel is a big freaking dude with plenty of pop. Would not shock me if he far surpasses some of the expectations here. I thinking he hits about 25 HR next year. He just needs the at bats.
  18. Honestly if ozzie treats people the way he wants to be treated, at least when it comes to what he says about them, milkman isn't far off.
  19. By the end of Game 3 of the world series, we had it all wrapped up in my mind, and perhaps before that even, yet there was still the last game to be played.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) 1.) I wanna marry a girl like Melissa in my next life. Yes! 2.) How the frick would Bob Nightengale know? Just wonderin. 1.) Me too, even though she is wrong about this. They should probably both be canned for different reasons. 2.) I told him. Its just a little joke.
  21. Lucky that only one run scored. I almost feel like ozzie was hoping for more.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) He's actually looked pretty good tonight. I think "extended period of time" is very subjective and since he has been on the bench most of August and September, maybe that is the time he needed. He looks like the same guy with the same results. Obviously it is subjective, but the results have shown that in tghis case his time off hasn't been long enough.
  23. I have found this to be true: When a man is in the midst of a situation in which he develops negative habits, he will continue to spiral downward, strengthening those negative habits until he removes himself from that situation for an extended period of time. Dunn needs to not play more than anyone right now. Not play more and continue on his downward spiral.
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 07:38 PM) Healing from what? Stop acting naive. Its annoying. If you aren't acting, then we may as well all put you on ignore, because this isn't at all complicated.
  25. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 01:02 PM) Yes, Cora was decent for us and from what I've seen at second for the sox well... Ray durham was one of favorites growing up but I didn't really pay attention to stats or defense back then. Looking at his stats now, he looks like the far superior player to me. Is there a reason you'd take cora over him? Actually iguchi would probably be better too. I'm not trying to criticize. I just don't get what cora brings.
