White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) That's kinda my point. You come off as it bothers you when he does well. Thus saying "it's hard to argue." As if you want to argue but you simply can't. It doesn't bother me in ANY way when anyone on this team does well. Hell thats kinda what I want daily. But I still think his 'value' to the 2005 team was a bit overexaggerated. I'm plenty happy as to the performance this year, and if we can bring him back at a decent deal for next year, I'm all for it.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) This gives the Sox options. Either Dye to DH or keep Thome next year. If Podsednik completely loses it (or either of those guys) in this last stretch run then we'll see what they're made of. We don't even know if a guy like Dye would be stubborn to be a DH even though we all wrote him in as one. Who knows, all I know is the Sox now have options Yeah I shoulda included that in my original post too. I am hoping and assuming we bring Dye back in a DH role.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) I've always wanted to ask you this. You seem to have a genuine dislike for Pods that goes beyond his on-field performance. Why is that? No, was just based on overhyped abilities that people thought he posessed. I've been fairly tame concerning it this year, its been mostly hard to argue against what he has done this year.

Resign Pods (yes that hurts me to say) to play LF, Rios in CF, CQ in Right next year whilst not rushing Danks2 up. I like it.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
Maybe resign Pods to play LF next year, Rios in CF, CQ in Right? I'd like that, quite a bit.

Just looking at the contract info past 2009, I like what we've got setup long term, with the exception of the albatross contracts of Contreras and Linebrink. AJP for another year is big, Konerko for another year, JD signed hopefully for the DH role with Thome off the books, seriously reconsidering our bullpen structure and exercising Thornton's option... Things are ok for 2010, when I would expect Flowers if at all, will come in as the Castro role maybe? And gives us a chance to make a run.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) our core going forward would be set DH - Thome C - Flowers 1B - Viciedo 2B - Getz SS - Ramirez 3B - Beckham LF - Quentin CF - Rios RF - Danks/Mitchell I can only hope that we'd drop Thome in favor of bringing back JD as DH. Thome has limited value for this team from this point forward. Also, for someone that gets dropped off the discussion so quickly, don't write AJP off. He is quietly having a very productive season offensively, and that type of production doesn't come along all the time, and certainly not from a first year starter. You put Quentin in RF, let...ugh...Pods come back maybe for LF, and that is a solid lineup with an outstanding starting rotation to back it up.

I'll certainly agree that we need an upgrade of SOME sorts in CF, and Rios could fill the part. Also, to not have to get into a bidding war would behoove us. I guess, IF Rios does make it to the Southside, I'll have the wait and see approach. Not sure where Rosenthal gets his "30 HR and 30 SB" ideas from though.

I've certainly not read the entire thread, but I don't get the interest in Rios. Rather pedestrian player for the money he is going to be paid over the next years to come...
