Rienzo to Chi, Hanson to AAA, Paulino to DL?
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Re-emphasizes to me the Sox biggest organization need is pitching. We have zero top-of-the-rotation arms. Beck is a back-of-the-rotation arm. Danish is far away from helping. And that's about it in terms of likely ML starters in the organization. Can't miss on this draft pick. One good thing is they know they need more pitching, and have known it for a while. I was reading about their concern a year ago.

Rienzo to Chi, Hanson to AAA, Paulino to DL?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) They paid Paulino what they would pay for three rookie contracts in a bid to build some trade value, and to keep their kids off of the big club for as long as possible. You know, the stuff that gets Lord Theo's knob slobbered on by the same people who think that Sox management is crazy. Trade value and Paulino don't go in the same sentence. Ever. Let alone after he just missed a year. It was a miscalculation. Sometimes tying to be clever and picking up injured broken down players cheap works. Most of the time it does not.

Rienzo to Chi, Hanson to AAA, Paulino to DL?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Right. The White Sox don't pay any attention to their budget at all. It has be something completely simple. Only lord Theo would sign pitchers to short deals in order to try to build value for them while holding back his own pitchers to save dollars in the future. What was I thinking. So they paid $2 million to Paulino to stop a soon to be 26 year old destined for middle relief's arb clock? You are reaching.

Odds on Paulino?
QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) Ah yes, the guy who has given up 13 runs and walked 10 in his first 3 starts. Paulino gave up 13 and 9 in his first 3 starts.....Could you imagine the meltdown here? Coop will fix him. Why isn't Cooper getting any crap for crap pitchers pitching crappy? The 2 previous hitting coaches did and we read about all the wonderful pitchers the Sox develop.

Rienzo to Chi, Hanson to AAA, Paulino to DL?
QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) They do. One of the starters is on the way out (injury or ineffectiveness) and the Sox have confidence that someone in the minors who had some MLB experience last year will step up. Rienzo is the first call. The second call will be Surkamp. The problem is neither are much better than Paulino. Maybe Rienzo can at least stay in the game long enough not to tax the beleaguered bullpen.

4/18 games
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) Anderson should get 2014 and 2015 to see if he can stick full-time at SS. If it's still not working, they will have to try 2B/LF/CF. I would say he has a 37-39% chance of sticking at SS.

Odds on Paulino?
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:42 AM) Bring up Reinzo and hope for the best. We are pretty thin in options at this point of the season. It seems to be the best option, and it probably isn't a good one. This is like shades of the early 2000s where the one starter is just a huge problem. It's one thing to count that spot as almost a guaranteed loss, but they need to find someone that will at least get them through the fifth or sixth inning.

Odds on Paulino?
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 08:18 AM) I agree... I thought this whole Paulino experiment was a bit odd to me. Perhaps Coop thought he could have pulled off a miracle? Regardless, theirs scouts really botched this one. Time to move on. I didn't have a problem with the signing per se, it just some of the expectations on this board. Not only did they expect him to be good after basically missing a year, many thought he would be better than he has ever been.

Odds on Paulino?
It boggled my mind then, it boggles my mind now, how anyone could have thought this guy was going to be effective was beyond me. He made 5 minor league starts last year and they were very similar to his results this season. He was still coming off a serious injury and was going to be rusty any way you slice it. Finally, he wasn't very good to begin with.

GT 4/18: CWS @ TEX - 7:05pm CST
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) PK since his 1st AB as a PH has done nothing. This is such a wasted use of a roster spot. Keep sucking DeAza It hasn't affected winning or losing. They have hardly faced lefties. It just would be someone else who rarely plays or if he did, posters would be wondering why.

As Ron Washington said, that's the way baseball go.

The problem is thr Charlotte staff really doesn't feature anyone you could say would definitely be significantly better than Paulino.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) Sox offense really cooled since Avi went down........DeAza automatic out. Abreu and Semien have been automatic outs as well.

QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) The real problem is he puts the game out of reach each start. There is a few innings he can get through and then he gives up a bomb. And he puts a huge load on the bullpen, making a weakness even weaker. He's bad. Send him to Charlotte with the rest of the flash in the pans that the Sox signed, and maybe he finds something. If not, at least we won't have to watch him.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) All bulls*** aside no way he gets another start next week. I'm thinking you are right. If he pitched 5 innings and gave up 5 or 6, i would think they would continue to trot him out there. But this is just too much.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) Who was the last Sox starter who was this bad consistently? I honestly can't remember. Axe was awful the last couple of months last year. I don't know if he was this bad, and he certainly didn't steal $2 million like Paulino apparently has.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:12 PM) Haha, was that defensive indifference in the 3rd inning? Runner on 3rd, he will get the steal.

I think everyone who b****ed at Ventura for having Leury Garcia pitch instead of Paulino should apologize.

3rd straight start allowing 6 runs.

GT 4/18: CWS @ TEX - 7:05pm CST
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) It's really easy to second guess. It was a low-risk, high reward type move. He's being paid $1.75 million this year and he's got a team option next year with a $250k buyout. That's chump change for a guy who could possibly eat 160-170 innings for you (which Paulino still can do). While I don't think he is as bad as he has been, to say he can eat 160-170 innings is like saying Viciedo can hit 40 homers. Sure, there is some very small chance, but Paulino is coming off a year off from surgery and has a career high of around 130 innings.

Adam Dunn appears to be back!
Sign him to a lifetime contract. When he is done playing, he can go to little league events and give 8 year olds the chance to fan him.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Complete game, 92 pitches So the game will be called after the Sox bat in the 5th. He actually is due for a decent start.

Worst Mistake of Robin's Young Career?
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 07:11 AM) Thornton was never as bad as Cleto was last year but regardless, my point is that Cleto should not be in high-leverage situations right now, seemingly solely based on the fact that he has a (luckily) good 2014 ERA. If he shows the amount of improvement Thornton showed, then sure. Was Thornton pitching in high-leverage situations after he had pitched just 20 innings in the majors? I really don't know how you conclude Cleto starting the ninth was based entirely on his current ERA. If that was the case, there are only one or two relievers Ventura would ever use.

Worst Mistake of Robin's Young Career?
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) Yeah, but you don't just say "everyone is awful, let's just throw someone out there." You look at the degrees to which people have been bad, why they have been bad, how long have they been bad for. Cleto has the worst history of the lot. If you go all by his past, the guy shouldn't be in uniform. He should be selling cars. I agree his past should be a consideration, but the White Sox thought they have pretty much solved his control problems. Obviously, that wasn't the case last night.
