  1. 2007 bullpen part 2. Who is next offseasons Linebrink? Francisco is no threat to anyone.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) It's also probably fair to say that "depth" is not our problem right now. Konerkois useless on paper, sure, but his roster spot isn't keeping us from wins at this point. The "everyday" bullpen is the issue. So is Paulino, but it's typical for your 5th best starter to be in flux. We've actually been spoiled with good back-enders in recent years. Johnson has been horrid too, so that winds up making a fairly weak bullpen to begin with, weaker. Paulino and Johnson will get at least a little better, and that alone will help the bullpen, but right now, if Cleto and a rookie are the two guys you have any sense of confidence in, it is a pretty weak pen. I do think Veal is better than most think. He did give up runs Saturday but it was because he was the lamb. Normally he wouldn't have been out there that length of time.
  3. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) Such a pile of s*** that Matt f***ing Lindstrom gets a win, for being bats*** terrible. He did have to get 4 outs.
  4. Not bad for the second worst hitter in baseball.
  5. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 03:32 PM) It was announced they'd moved from Sunday jerseys to alternates and would be worn when the players elected to Yes I know, but season tickets have the 83 theme on them so I am pretty sure you will see them on Sundays and a few other days. They wore them a couple of non Sundays last year. The players love them. I think it is pretty telling they are wearing them today after losing in them yesterday. Usually that would mean they would go to something else, but it is Sunday.
  6. So they delayed the game 75 minutes where it didn't rain most of the time and when it did it was still playable, for this.
  7. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 03:22 PM) This makes more sense now. Thank you. If they need a cash grab and want to make these permanent alternatives, I think they should use the 83 era road hat to match the helmet.
  8. QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 03:17 PM) Well that seems kind of dumb.. I like them and all, but throwbacks with no purpose annoy me. I still thinkg they will wear them mostly on Sundays and probably wore them yesterday because of the 83 era blanket giveaway.
  9. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) Really? Really. Struck out 3 times, had footwork troubles at first again, and when he pit the ball in play with the bases loaded in the 4th when a run gets everyone free coffee, he taps into a 1-2-3 DP. Screw him. And screw Don Cooper. If he can't get pitchers to throw strikes, what good is he. When Belisario was signed it was applauded on Soxtalk. Same with Downs, and Paulino was a steal. He can't get them to throw strikes, but in their defense, if any of us were on the mound and threw the meatballs they were offering, we wouldn't want to throw them anywhere near the plate either. I just really love how people freak out after a loss. Figure I will join in on the fun. The bullpen is terrible and probably will remain terrible, but they aren't going to have a 7.00 ERA. Paulino more than likely sucks, but he isn't going to sport an 8.00 ERA for the rest of the season. Nieto played A ball last year. Why anyone would be surprised in the least bit that he will be overmatched 9 times out of 10, is curious. At least so far, this team makes games interesting. They are short a few players, especially pitchers, but maybe their guys can turn it around. It will take a huge turnaround, but it is pretty much a guarantee there will be at least a small one.
  10. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) 27,000 today, that's encouraging. It was Girl Scout Day. I think that helped pad the figures.but it was surprisingly crowded at the park today.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) The bullpen certainly seems to either be a work in progress or just needs to be revamped period. But, throwing strikes would help too Yeah, I'm not understanding all the free passes.
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 12, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) 1) Screw you Paulino, go pitch somewhere else 2) Screw the 1st base umpire and his horrible calls 3) Screw Robin and his terrible managing. 4) Screw Downs and Bellisario Screw Jose Abreu for his A Dunn impression. The one time he put the ball in play he cost over 27k free coffee.
  13. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) I honestly think this might be the first time I've ever seen somebody get upset over the Sox going through another team's dumpster and taking some of their minor league fodder off their hands. And not even to play for the White Sox.
  14. Ticketmaster, use ACADEMY as the code, bleachers and upper box are $14, lower reserved $16, and lower box $29.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) I agree. Physically the average pitcher is just bigger and stronger. But I also think that pitchers today try to throw harder. They don't need to pace themselves for 9 innings. They know a quality start is 6 innings. So they can throw harder and over exert themselves thus cause more injuries. I think one of the reasons for the over effort is the speed guns at the ballparks and on TV. Years ago, they didn't exist and only a few didn't know if you were throwing 91 or 87. Now everyone does. It's out there for everyone to see. Unless you are known as a soft tosser, I think it makes you maximize the effort. Just read the gamethread. Danks was throwing 87-89, and there were a lot of comments saying he had nothing. If he had the same results and the gun was showing 91-92, he would have probably been called unlucky and posters who now think he has nothing would have been encouraged. 20 years ago, without the gun, the results were really all that mattered.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:45 AM) So you're saying he had bad games before he had good games. That never happens in baseball....in April.... What I am saying is just because he had a good game and a half, and one of those games, just about everyone on the team had a great game, doesn't mean he was destined for greatness. If you look at his season so far, defensively, he was about as bad as anyone in baseball, and offensively he had 8 really nice plate appearances. Maybe it was the beginning of his coming out party. Maybe not.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 04:11 PM) Treat the symptom, forget the cause. It seems to me the percentage of pitchers who throw hard is significantly higher than it was 20-30 years ago. It wasn't that long ago where if you threw 90, it was considered you were a hard thrower. Also there has been a lot of talk of the seams being smaller making it more of an effort to achieve the movement pitchers want and need. Hawk had a suggestion several years ago. Raise the mound, raise the seams on the baseballs. It definitely would take some pressure off shoulders and elbows.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) I don't think they can without Garcia. Garcia's injury was a tough break, but let's face it, until his 2 homer 4-5 performance the day before his injury and his 2 walk performance the day of his injury, he was pretty horrific this season. Maybe he was just coming out of it, and ready to take off. We will never know. But to think he alone makes a difference between winning and losing several games a month IMO is exhaggerating. Hawk was saying last night that he and the new hitting coach really had developed a nice bond. Perhaps that will help him realize his full potential in the future. He's a talented guy, but even with his minor league success, he needed to change some things around to become a truly productive major league hitter. He looked it for a game and a half. Maybe it was the beginning of a streak that was going to change things around for him.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 07:58 AM) I watch a lot of MLB Network. I haven't seen much buzz. Granted, I wasn't watching last night when he hit two more. But let's face it, if Abreu was on the Yankees, he'd already be getting daily coverage. Typical stuff, but I'll take it as long as Abreu is putting up league leading numbers. Ignore him. He's not even very big news in Chicago yet. Not that he doesn't deserve the buzz, I'm sure there are more than a few teams that are kicking themselves right now not making him better offers. If he keeps it up, he will get more attention than he ever imagined.
  20. Billy Beane picks up a $10 million a year closer, which seems to fly against all he believes in, (as much as I think you should not be afraid to pay relievers, $10 million for Jim Johnson doesn't scream value to me at any angle) and said closer loses his closing role after 5 appearances.
  21. QUOTE (onedog#1 @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 03:44 AM) Going to Saturdays game to see the Sox and get that nice Sox fleece blanket. Going with dad and his friend, we were going to get there about 10 AM and go to box office window to get outfield seat, I know the Sox tickets are usually not a problem at all, but wanted to sit in outfield mid rowish right center or even by sox bullpen, will it be tough to find good seats in that area for the game? I assume at least 20,000 tickets sold with maybe 25,000 sold tops or slightly more. Suppose to be a nice day not all that cold. Looking for some info was trying to scope ticket master through Sox site to get a look whats available but at this current time cant sell tickets online? Heading from Clinton, IA where i am at and my dads buddy, and my dad driving hear from SE Iowa, yes there are a few intelligent people in Iowa who are not cub fans. Just looking for a little info, love the outfield seats! Last time I sat out there in right center in 2012 about halfway up, and great seats. Unfortunately Sox got pounded with their ace Sale on the mound against the D Rays in the last week of the season where the Sox were one game behind Tigers before that game started, the day the Sox season died. On a good note though, Abreu looks like a beast! PS- I wish we were not seeing Paulino pitch that day, hopefully he can keep it under 85-90 pitches going into the 5th. I would Stubhub the tickets. You will get great seats at a great price. I doubt there will be a problem getting a blanket, but if you ae there a bit before gametime, if they are out at a gate you are at and you really want one, go to a different gate. They should probably have some unless it is just about gametime. I doubt there will be 20k at the game.
  22. I don't understand how hawk and stone can't understand why Tank doesn't get a stolen base. The batter walked.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) I wouldnt even mind him so much if he wasnt batting 3-5. But this is like Ozzie stubbornly batting Wise leadoff when the guy was hitting like .214, come on now Gillaspie is hitting .320 with a .354 OBP. Who has been doing better that should be there?
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) Thank alot you lawn ornament Viciedo. You are part of the reason Avi is out rest of 2014. No, Avi being a below average defensive player is why he is out the rest of 2014.
