If KW is being straight, this is not encouraging. From the Sun Times: "Ozzie and I have been speaking on that, and we spoke on it again [Tuesday],'' Williams said of the DH spot. "I've given him some names - this is a very critical last thing on our list. I certainly don't want to do anything from my seat that conflicts with what my manager wants, so regardless if I think there may be a need for a bigger left-handed bat in the middle of the lineup, he's the one in there and I fully support how he and his coaching staff see the situation fitting. That's something we'll continue to think about.'' KW already trying to deflect blame a la trading for Sandy Alomar for the 12th time if it doesn't work out. He's the GM. If he thinks the team would be better with another bat, its his job to get another bat. If there are no additions, Greg Walker is going to get more heat than ever before.

The White Sox aren't going to win a bidding war, so it makes no sense to spend money watching him. Besides, its already leaked how he looked.

I will say for a team that supposedly has no money, shelling out $82 million for Rios, Pierre and Teahan is curious at best. I'm pretty sure I'd trade those 3 for John Lackey.

They have a pretty nice line-up. I would imagine the will have Slowey back as he missed half the season. The Sox still need a lot more offense. As soon as they get at least another significant bat, I will be optimistic.

I don't love this trade, and I don't hate it. They aren't paying him much and he probably will be closer to Pods 2009 numbers in 2010 than Pods will. There are obviously more moves to be made. If you remember, KW said he wanted to get the team OBP up to .350. The guys he acquired, Pierre, Teahan, Jones, and Vizquel, really don't help accomplish that. A big bat or two I believe will be coming and perhaps someone we have penciled in the White Sox 2010 line up right now will be leaving. I really wouldn't mind the Sox getting Vlad. Bill James projects him to hit more homers, hit for a higher avg. and higher OBP than Matsui.

Things are starting to happpen at a feverish pitch. Lackey signs, the Halladay deal, Matsui signs, now Cameron to Boston. I'm sure a White Sox move is around the corner.

You think the Twins and Tigers/Indians are as good as the Yankees and Red Sox? Hyperbole. One advantage the Sox have over teams in other divisions is the weakness of the AL Central. If they could roll in the division they would be able to set their playoff rotation, one thing they weren't able to do in 2008 and many overlook. Next year, they are going to take away some of the off days. You aren't going to be able to ge by with a 3 man rotation.

I will agree if the offensive improvement is going to be based on Rios, Quentin being fully healthy for a full year, having Beckham an additional 2 months, that this has been a bad off season, because you have to remember the Sox lost a lot of HR and RBI with Thome and Dye being gone, and some batting average with Pods being gone and most of their steals with Pods and Getz gone, and the offense clearly wasn't good enough last year. You would probably be looking at a wash at best, but its the middle of December. No reason to panic yet. I will say when I read where Ozzie said Vizquel may be leading off and even DHing occassionally, it scared me. But he has to just be talking out of his behind.

People here hated Thome. Thome is better than Cust and at least he won't hurt you in the field.

Its one reason I think the Peavy trade is KW's all-time best. He might have even been able to give up less, but Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda is all it cost for Jake Peavy? That's a no brainer.

Now Cowley is saying the Sox are thinking Juan Pierre. If he throws out all the names and one comes to the Sox he will be the guy that knew all along.

Hopefully these other guys continue the improvement but we won't know until they prove they are solid major leaguers. I do think guys with scouting backgrounds who post on websites are looking at the Sox guys in a lesser light, and maybe its because of all the busts. Keith Law doesn't have much good to say about any Sox prospect and the other guy on espn.com covering the AZ Fall League says Danks is very overrrated. Maybe he is or maybe he's taking a calculated guess basing it at least partially on all the failed prospects that have come up through the White Sox system.

Next time anyone wants to use minor league stats as proof a guy will be a MLB stud, just check out Jeremy Reed's numbers. As a 22 year old in Birmingham, the guy hit .409 with an OPS 1.065, with speed and you know he's a solid defensive player. Then he comes up to Seattle, hits close to .400 in about 60 AB and then just tanks. At least Greg Walker can't be blamed.

I'm just as shocked KW couldn't get anything for him as I am by his basic release. Maybe he has an injury and KW would have to disclose it in order to move him.
