Sox Acquire Jake Peavy for Richard, Poreda, Russell, Carter
Dick Allen replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sweet job KW. The Sox are contenders now for several years assuming Peavy gets and remains healthy. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Levine reported both Richard and Poreda, Russell and Carter. Interesting considering Richard is supposed to start tonight. -

Heyman just said he believes Peavy has or said he will waive the no trade. -

Worth a shot. I approve KW. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) So in other words our final offers are out there, and we are waiting to see if teams will come down to our offers. They never mentioned KW in particular, but I know KW is trying to make a trade and has made lots of offers. From what they said, you make your offer and sit by the phone hoping it rings.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) That same season Hanley hit .332 with 48 doubles, 29 HR's and 51 SB....I think Florida won that trade, but really both teams are winners. And Mike Lowell hit .324 with 120 RBI and was the WS MVP.
-
They have Duquette and Hart on MLB network. Its pretty interesting to listen to how a GM actually spends deadline day. From what they have said, I think KW is sitting by his phone waiting for some callbacks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) I don't get all the talk of getting ANOTHER reliever. Its just not something the team needs, at all. I mean if you can upgrade there, fine, but the Sox pen, despite some recent struggles, is still one of the best in baseball. Heath Bell would be a huge upgrade. The bullpen has really struggled lately, plus he would step in for Jenks next year, as I cannot see the Sox paying Bobby the money he would command next year and going forward.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) I do like Masterson. But if that's all the Tribe got, they got raped. Nick Hagadone as well.

QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Punto also has the same OBP as Cabrera and has better defense. There's an obvious difference in slugging (100+ points this year), but Punto has been epically bad even by his standards in SLG this season (SLG is 70 points lower than his career average, 130 points lower than his last season). Going forward, I don't think there's a massive difference between the two, when you look at everything involved. Of course, if Punto continues this and finishes the year like he did in 2007, then OCab is an easy and obvious upgrade. According to MLB network, Cabrera's fielding stats should improve significantly with Morneau at firstbase.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) Teams will be less-motivated to trade half their farm for just 1 season of contention rather than two... Exactly. 2 playoff runs vs. 1 is huge.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Yep. This isn't really an upgrade, but at least it's a move that makes them look like they care (meaning it will likely make Mauer happy). OCab isn't particularly good (in fact he's been pretty bad this year), but he has the name and reputation to keep their golden boy happy. Nick Punto has played 75 games this year and is hitting .208. If you don't think its an upgrade, I think you need your eyes examined.

QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:22 PM) Not sure if they're kidding, but MLB Network is talking about texting with KW during the break (that he asked for ideas, Harold Reynold just gave a sleeper list and they said 'Here you go Kenny, this is your text back!') While I don't doubt they texted KW, I'd be absolutely shocked if KW was serious about needing ideas. I'd also be shocked if he doesn't have about 10 balloons in the air right now. The problem is it takes 2 to tango, so while you might have the means to take on salary and might have some prospects to trade, the other guy could always say no. I read somewhere where Toronto wasn't interested in any of the White Sox prospects for Halladay. They wanted Danks and Floyd.

I remember when Washburn was with the Angels, he was described as a poor man's Mark Buerhle.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) That was 2007. He was barely above average last year. This year though, he's been atrocious. Any rating system that had Soriano ranked high and above average, when even the Cubs announcers say there are a few thousand people in the stands that are probably better with the glove than him, needs a little tweaking.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Don't tell this to people who hate Alexei Ramirez's defense and UZR. Wasn't the UZR that had Alfonso Soriano as one of the finest defensive LF in baseball last season?
-
White Sox still have to face a stacked Red Sox team. Maybe Kotsay will have a hit by then.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) My new thread idea "If O-Cab had accepted arbitration...." Yea, we'd be better. Getz out, him in. Better on defense and offense, b/c i'd move AR back to 2b. That would be about $9 million KW would have had to cut from somewhere. The Sox did cartwheels and breathed a sigh of relief when Cabrera cost himself millions and rejected arb.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) Thats what I dont get, how is he an upgrade? He is a downgrade defensively and offensively he is about the same as the guy he is replacing. Frankly, if this means less of Nick Punto, I see this as a win for the White Sox. Punto sucks. Casilla sucks. The're HOFers against the Sox but are terrible against everyone else.

I was in Minneapolis for the first 2 games of this week's series. Considering all the pub they are giving the new place, and it does look like it will be spectacular, I cannot see them using the Metrodome at all unless there is a snowstorm that would knock out a week of games. I think this is BS. Besides, if the Twins only play a few games there a year, they won't have as big of an advantage.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Enjoy that clubhouse cancer Twinkies It didn't stop the Red Sox, Angels or White Sox winning when he was around. He is a douchebag, no question, but he is a huge upgrade for them although his glove has slipped this year. Just be thankful the Twins made that trade for Delmon Young. Bartlett and Garza would look very good on the Twins.

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) So. That does not mean you can't change speeds at least once in 15 pitches. If they hadn't hit the fastball, why blame him for continuing to throw it? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) Times like this I wish we had Lillibridge on the bench to hit. He was at USCF today. If Anorexei had to be DL'd, he would have returned. -

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) Oh wow... per Cowley and Gonzalez twitter... Jenks is not at the park tonight... no explanation as to why. I hope everything is alright for him and his family.
