  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) No excuse to keep Danks in to go over 110 pitches. Anyways, I missed the hit by Fields. What was it? Didn't they used to yank Danks at about 90 pitches, even last year against the Cubs I believe? It was a single to left.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) I don't believe that was ever said or hinted at. All that was said was that "Greg Walker ought to be happy with his performance tonight" or something closely along those lines. Walker has been blamed for the White Sox offense for years. And there have been plenty of posts when guys like Quentin or Ramirez are mentioned as guys who seem to have had more success than expected, that it had absolutely nothing to do with him.
  3. What, Ramirez is putting time in with Walker? Fire Walker right now.
  4. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:39 PM) Minnie Minoso played for 51+ years?! HOLY s***! He played in 1980, and the White Sox signed him to play in 1990, but the commissioner blocked it. 1990 the Sox won 94 games and were battling Oakland. Oakland picked up Baines and Willie McGee at the deadline. The Sox signed Jerry Hairston so he could get some service time for his pension and Minnie. Ozzie was livid.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) I think you're missing my point. Maybe the Sox should give Lillibridge a better opportunity. He's only had about 150 major league AB.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) I know it's a bad comparison. I don't care one bit. After 3 years of complaining about Anderson being benched when he's actually starting to learn stuff, of course I' going to be behind Fields, because this obsession with dumping him is absolutely foolish. Again totally different. If BA doesn't hit, he can still help you. If Fields doesn't hit homers, he isn't a major league player.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) After 166 games, Robin Ventura had a .634 career OPS. Yes, he was younger than Fields. But hell who cares...players never make adjustments or learn. Robin had 1 year in the minors. Bad comparison. He also didn't fan at the alarming rate Fields does.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) As much as we semi-jokingly talk about this, I just can't see Ozzie putting BOTH Wise and Pods in the same lineup considering they are both LH. If Quentin goes on the DL, it sets it up perfectly.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Ignoring posts ftw. Rowand played 180+ games by the time he was 24. Fields has played 164. We are talking offense. I'm counting AB not games entered as a defensive replacement. We know Fields has none of those.
  10. QUOTE (tommy @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Calling a Fields hit. BP is not televised.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) Why would you completely ignore Rowand's 4th year and give the 145 ABs for Fields? Rowands fourth year he hit .310. I don't think Fields is going to hit .310. If anything, it makes Josh's .215 look like he should be a Knight.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) 3 seasons vs 4 seasons. Try again. Same amount of AB, same age, do you really want me to give you Rowand's year 4 it will blow Fields away. Rowand had a .273 avg. after 582 ab. Fields won't ever see his career avg. at .273. Fields is 26 years old. I would give him some slack if he truely was a kid, but he blows.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Ugh. Aaron Rowand played 63-126-93-140 games in his 1st four season. Josh Fields has played 11-100-14-39 through his 1st four seasons. UGH. Rowand 123 ab,302 ab, 157 ab=582 ab Fields 20 ab, 373 ab,32 ab,145 ab=570 ab
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) He just sucks in Anaheim. Except if its the ALCS
  15. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:05 PM) Crede was 11-50 in 2001, with 0 HR and 7 RBI in 17 games. Aaron Rowand already played 180+ games in 2003 before he got benched. Garland was drafted out of high school. I change Crede's 2001 to 2002. In 200-2001 he had 64 AB not nearly enough to determine a two time minor league MVP. Rowand had about the same amount of AB that Fields has had after 2003. He at least showed he could hit the ball, and he was decent defensively, before he exploded in 2004. You were the one who mentioned Garland. I pointed out at Fields' age Garland was a world champion. Its true. Thome is done.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 25, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) Fields has been a huge dissapointment so far, but if this team isn't going anywhere and you might as well give him a chance. Wilson Betemit and Jason Nix aren't long term answers, Viciedo isn't ready, and I don't want to see Beckham at third. KW is Fields biggest fan. If he sends him down, you know there is no other choice. I also think if they send him down and he spends the next 3 months in Charlotte, his chances of every being the White Sox everyday 3rd baseman are slim to none. Getz is looking good again.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Oooooooh, good examples!!!! Good thing we gave up on Crede, and Rowand, and Garland, who all came up and sucked too. I can play that game too. Crede was pretty damn good in 2002. Rowand got benched in CF for Carl Everett in 2003. When Garland was 26 he was a world champion.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) More than 164 MLB games. Most players don't even get 150 MLB games to prove they suck. Maybe the Sox gave up on guys like Owens and Terrero too soon. Mike Caruso hit .300 as a rookie and then sucked. The Sox gave up on him. That was just stupid.
  19. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:49 PM) I would bet that if Quentin only misses a couple games (listening on the radio, didn't see where he got hurt) then Pods is going to get the majority of PT in CF. Just because you and I are probably right doesn't mean it's a smart decision. Beckham is not a 3B and there are no minor league options. If the Sox give up on Fields in order to start the clock on Beckham during a season where the playoffs seem unlikely, then the Sox prove once again how incredibly f***ing stupid they are capable of being. How long does Fields have to suck before it can be determined he's not a championship quality 3rd baseman?
  20. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Did you see Fields in Spring Training and at the start of the season when he was lining outside fastballs up and the middle and into RF? Fields is always going to K and he'll never win a GG but he can still be a good player or at least he can still do enough to net us something in a trade. If Viciedo was looking MLB ready now then maybe you take that case and close the book on Josh, but certainly not now. And the pitchers made an adjustment and the guy is hitting .214. If you are trying to win, you can't keep waiting for these types to come around.
  21. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) I don't think anyone expected Fields to hit .280 this season. A Troy Glaus type of player is not out of the question for him, and that's not the type of potential that you give up on when you have *no other actual solutions.* As others have mentioned, Figgins will in all likelihood net Type A compensation after this year. To acquire Figgins while giving up that much talent is pointless, especially since this team has so many holes. Acquiring anyone in order to spot-patch an enormous gash is foolish unless said player will become a big part of the future, ala Peavy. Plus, none of our minor league 3B are ready. There's no reason to pull the plug on Fields just to plug in something else that either hurts the team or will not help enough. Let the kid prove he's not a Major Leaguer, i.e. give him more than the months of April and May when tons of players struggle. I would bet if he's still struggling on June 1, he probably is going to have to look for apartments in Charlotte, and he'll only be able to blame himself. Its not like he's a kid. He's 26 years old with 570 AB a .299 OBP and 195 K.
  22. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) Yea I think the Navy Blue hats with stars and stripes logos they had last year were better than these red ones. That may have been the 4th of July though. I think they wear them for both. They probably went to red this year so everyone with a blue one would consider a new one.
  23. The scary thing is if Q goes on the DL, it only makes room for Dewayne Wise and Podsednik. KW f***ed up this past offseason.
