Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) I think this is the case, Peavy killed the deal. Pussy. I think so. The last thing the White Sox want is Poreda and Richard(s) knowing they were out the door but the guy they were going for said no. Just say it was never that close and they may feel like the Sox still want them.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) lol, well, the report makes it seem like it never got to the point he was approached to waive It could be that they just don't want it out there they had a deal and Peavy killed it. This is a Groundhog Day version of the Soriano to the White Sox talk in 2006 where it went from immiment to never really that close.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) If he rejects this trade as well, he must REALLY love it in San Diego. The only thing bad about Chicago is the winter. If he was willing to play for the Cubs, he should enjoy the White Sox. If he's afraid of the AL, the $56 million or whatever is owed to him can be better spent. If he agrees to come here, the White Sox have officially stopped f***ing around.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (rangercal @ May 21, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Does anyone know any big names who exercised their no trade clause in the past? I am preparing for a major heart break and don't want to feel alone. Recently with the White Sox, Jim Edmonds and Carlos Delgado. I know Rafael Palmiero rejected a trade to the Cubs a year or so before he was busted. It happens a lot but is not publicized.

At the end of this thread, Jake Peavy is either going to be the greatest pitcher who ever lived or the biggest tool.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) just to update opinions in the media, they just played a clip on ESPN 1000 with Olney saying he'll think he'll reject it. He's expressed a desire to stay in the NL and doesn't think that will change... of course he tempered it with saying he could agree due to of being of tired of losing. I imagine he or his agent will talk to the Pads and ask them what other possabilities are there. If the Pads say they won't just give him away and the Sox package is good and other teams aren't close he'll come. Again, I feel he rejects it, it's taking too long to agree to it. I know it doesn't mean anything at this point, but the sick of losing thing is funny because currently, the Padres have a better record than the White Sox.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ May 21, 2009 -> 10:34 AM) Anybody think they are waiting for the game to announce that the deal is done? Would add some dramatic flair, not sure how packed the place is going to be for a day game however. I'm sure they if he accepts they will let the info out ASAP. It should spur some ticket sales.

This would be KW's finest trade ever. Even if Peavy blew out his elbow his first White Sox start. Pitching wins.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:40 AM) You got your perpetual message out... Yes Kenny is cheap, now quit spoiling the thread and move along. Acquiring Peavy will just prove my point. The one you told me was wrong. I just don't want to see the BS if he says no and KW goes back to his $.50 routine wondering if they will be able to pay the electric bill.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) The Pads need a SS, would you give up Alexei? The White Sox can give up a middle infielder. If the choice is keep Alexei and don't get Peavy or have Alexei at SS and Clayton Richard on the mound, its not that hard of a choice considering the White Sox have other options. Their best prospect is a SS.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Good luck with that. The only team in baseball who has been more competitive than the Sox in the current decade is maybe the Yankees, and some people still think KW is a crappy GM. Boston has been so have the Angels. The White Sox should be competitive. The only teams that cost more to go see are the 2 NY teams, Boston and the Cubs.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) Exactly! This is similar to the Bears getting Cutler. You don't pass up the chance to get a franchise quarterback in/or entering his prime and you don't pass up the chance to get a former Cy Young winning franchise pitcher. If he says no, hey, you tried. But, I'm not just going to say, "OK, who's next, we have this money slotted to go to Peavy, he didn't want it, I'll give it to the next pitcher available." But it shows they aren't at or over their salary limit like they have been preaching. I'm not suggesting they just give all that money to the next guy. What I'm saying is their every dollar in goes out isn't accurate. They obviously have some cash laying around.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) Was there any guy in FA FWIW that you would have given $10M to? Peavy's a franchise pitcher. You don't get the chance to acquire a pitcher like him, especially when you consider how much a team like the Yankees would have given him if he hit free agency in the past off-season (think Sabathia money). Its a lot more than $10. I'm just thinking this year. KW only has $.50 remember.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) Is he supposed to add $10M for the wrong guy? My whole point being if the guy is even moderately hesitant to pitch in the AL, is he the guy you want to give all this money to? As I said, if he comes here, IMO its KW best move, if he doesn't he obviously wasn't the "right guy" which is the spin KW is going to put on the White Sox willing to add payroll, because IIRC KW was talking about playing day games to save on the electric bill when he was crying about being broke.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Who are these "people" that these players have that are feeding lines to the media. And why is Peavy so scared to pitch in the AL? PLenty of good arms throw in the AL, you dont think you are one of them? That's what I don't understand. If he's willing to play for the Cubs or Brewers, why would he even have to think about the White Sox. It makes you wonder if he truely is an "ace". If he says yes, its KW's best trade IMO. If he says no, good riddance. I'm actually shocked that they have agreed to a deal if they actually have. If Peavy says no, KW is going to have to do a lot of backpedaling when talking about finances. I'm sure he'll give the line JR was willing to bust the budget by $10 million to get the "right guy". The right guy being a guy who is hesitant to pitch in the AL.

When this trade falls through, will KW be willing to pick up salary elsewhere? He obviously isn't at his limit.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) I don't know why he would want to stay in San Diego. Yeah the weather is nice, but the team is gonna be awful for years. He either stays in SD or the Padres can trade him to a place he finds more desirable. I don't know what's wrong with Chicago in the summer. He doesn't want to go to the AL, but if the White Sox decide to become bullies, they can dominate the AL Central for years.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
If this is true, and I still have my doubts, its the type of move KW should have been looking at months ago instead of going cheap. I thought they were at their payroll limit. If there is any truth to this rumor, it does show you they BS about that. Of course the Hunter and Fukudome pursuits are more proof of that. A couple of other things, maybe Floyd is in the deal. The Sox would not be getting SD to pay part of Peavy's contract because financial relief is the reason SD is trading him. Interesting that Peavy supposedly has reservations about playing for Ozzie. There have been a few names that have rejected trades to the White Sox. Delgado, Edmonds...the only guy I know who rejected going to the Cubs is Palmiero, which probably was a big mistake by him. He may have avoided his positive test or it could have been more awesome for us if he tested positive as a Cub. If this is true, it would be KW's finest hour IMO. Pitching wins. This just reminds me of the Soriano rumor in 2006. Probably not as much to it as has been reported.

Pure Spectulation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) We have thirty or fourty million coming off of the books, this signing would still lead to a decrease in total payroll year over year... Why is that so complex? And please quote where I said that. Everytime I b****ed about the payroll going down and prices going up, and mentioned all the money coming off the books after this season, you came back with all the lost sponsor money, how the Sox spending money could destroy the franchise etc. Now some 14 year old comes up with a false rumor and you now agree with me there is plenty of room for additional payroll. Amazing. At least now you think the White Sox haven't spent every dime that comes in, and when this rumor turns out to be false, you will post some more about adding some payroll.

Pure Spectulation
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) Interesting. A couple of things make it possible, dispite the Peavy salary. First of all, we have a ton of salary coming off of the books in the next few years. Secondly we are LOADED with offensive players. In reality, I would poop myself it ever happened. You said signing players this offseason was financial suicide for the White Sox. Now picking up Peavy makes a lot of financial sense? For some reason, I don't buy this rumor at all.

"He's Next"
Fields sucked last year. Crede helped the Sox win some games. Fields is at a crossroads IMO. He has to pick it up. I really think his White Sox career for all intents and purposes is OVA if he gets sent down again, unless its a real short trip. I know Jerry Owens came back from the dead this year for one last fling, but there were extenuating circumstances.
