  1. Getz is hitting .347 leading off. Why does ESPN say the White Sox leadoff hitters are struggling?
  2. I really wonder when the last time Corky Miller started a game as high as 6th in the line-up.
  3. Betemit now hitting .320. I'm glad he rarely plays against RHP, the pitching he has historically raked.
  4. I'm glad Joe Morgan got the fact that he made the big leagues at the age of 19 out of the way. He's quickly running out of material for the final 3 innings.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:36 PM) Fields needs to learn how to put the glove right on the bag. It's funny, but AJP on the radio on Wednesday was saying that he's had complaints this year about how our infielders put the tag down on a steal attempt. They are probably in shock that they actually have a shot at nailing the runner.
  6. There literally were no CF's available this past offseason better than Jerry Owens.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) I think he tweaked his knee again a week ago. He's been hobbling down the line all week. It would also explain why he seems incapable of driving the ball. All season and spring training there does seem to be a hitch in his giddyup when he jogging. He seemed alright when he's really running, but if he's hurt, he's useless.
  8. Did Fields blow a tire there? He was doubled up by a mile and they play seemed pretty slow in developing.
  9. In his last 173 AB which includes Sept. of last season, Anorexei is hitting .202.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) Not fan of this s***ty line up, but here is Ozzie reason... Harrison versus righties .406, versus lefties .217. Getz vs. lefties .500
  11. Obviously Lillibridge is in CF, its not the Lillibridge/Getz platoon Ozzie had in mind. But when BA comes back and JD can play maybe Ozzie should look at these numbers vs. LHP and perhaps he will get over his Brent Lillibridge mancrush: Gets is 4-8 with a double and a triple Lillibridge is 1-12 against LHP this year and 6-35 last season. That's 7-47.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ May 3, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Lineup Nix 2B Fields 3B Quentin LF Konerko DH Betemit 1B Miller C Podsednik RF Ramirez SS Lillibridge CF Danks P This could be one of the weakest line-ups an American League team has posted in non-garbage time in many years. Suddenly, Juan Uribe as a leadoff hitter isn't so laughable.
  13. Sweet, Pods is in RF, and Corky Miller is hitting 6th for the first time since Little League: Nix 2B Fields 3B Quentin LF Konerko DH Betemit 1B Miller C Podsednik RF Ramirez SS Lillibridge CF I hope Danks has his best stuff tonight.
  14. Ward was hitting .220 for Tim Raines and the Newark Bears. I doubt this is a signing with an idea of him eventually being in Chicago. He can play for his dad and maybe he'll do well enough to be a pinch hitter for some team, but if its as a possible replacement for Thome in case of injury, the White Sox would be in trouble. Remember when he came up and hit a bunch of homers? It was thought he was going to be a star but IIRC he got real heavy and lost it, although he has hit righties pretty well.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:29 AM) Its so odd looking at Whisler's numbers last year and this year. He actually gives up a fairly large number of baserunners - hitters average in the .280's and .290's against him, and his walk rate isn't stellar. And yet, somehow, he keeps his ERA low. I can't figure out if he is just good at pitching beyond his ability level, or if he's fortunate and will get knocked around in the majors. I don't think KW thinks Whisler is anything but minor league fodder at this point.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 3, 2009 -> 12:10 AM) He gone. Next must move is getting rid of Lillibridge. The man is overmatched at this level. And I'm in favor of sending Contreras down for a month. He is not going to win in the big leagues with his current stuff/approach. He's 0-4 for godsakes. He's got to go down. I think before they move Contreras to the minors, they should try him in the bullpen. Even as much as he has struggled, his ERA is only about 3.00 the first 2 or 3 innings. I think as he builds up strength, he should be able to go longer, but the guy was supposed to be a bullpen guy when he got back in August and he was on the opening day roster in the rotation. Things could be worse. He could be named Oliver Perez. Lillibridge is a minor leaguer but for some reason he's highly thought of. As far as Owens, the guy just didn't have it. He had a great Sept. 2007 that fooled many. Has an ex-football player been any more of a cream puff than Jerry Owens?
  17. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ May 1, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) It shouldn't matter since we had a paid attendance # for both the game that was postponed and the 2nd game. The cancelled game's attendance will be dispursed into several games as people will use their tickets for other games. The total number will not be lost, but instead of 81 gates they will only have 80 and since they have had 12 home games but only 11 attendance figures, one will be 0. It hurts the average this early in the season. If they played a day/night DH, they would have 12 attendance figures. Obviously, the people with unused tickets will be counted eventually.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Is there any other site that shows current attendance figures? I'm pretty sure MLB and every other site gets their information from that ESPN site. That's pretty pathetic because it's just plain inaccurate. I just did some research, and I added all the attendance #s for all 12 games. Again, this site indicates the average attendance for the White Sox after 12 games: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance I came up with 295,295 excluding the first game of the double header. That means they counted the first game as an attendance of 1. I then added all of the Red Sox attendance figures for their 12 games. They also had a double header. They counted both games of the double header on 4/22. Their's was probably a day/night DH with 2 gates.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) He's absolutely incredible. He missed badly on that first pitch fastball but his swing on the double was a thing of beauty. I f***ing love that big lug. I do too. He's looked like he's about 50 years old for several years, talks real slow and eats a lot of red meat.
  20. Mike Maddux is supposed to be a great pitching coach. You still need decent pitchers.
  21. If a pitcher just hits Thome's bat, it can do major damage.
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) really?? Yeah. I was stunned. I thought for sure he would be in trouble.
  23. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:47 PM) ha! this will be huff's last broadcast after that remark about a "white guy" About 15 years ago the Sox were in Oakland and they kept showing women in bikinis in the stands. Hawk said to Wimpy, "I'll tell you one thing about this camera crew in Oakland, they're the best beaver shooters in the league".
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 07:44 PM) Be careful, as there's a team that's likely going to have some money to spend with a huge hole in CF this offseason. Chevy is going to end their White Sox sponsorship. The Sox will have to lop off about $40 million just to pay the electric bills.
