  1. DeRosa just said he doesn’t think Harper will sign with the White Sox because he wants to win championships. He played with him. He’s said he doesn’t think Harper would put faith in all the prospects hitting.
  2. Yes. The question was which signs first. Everyone on the panel said Machado, and Morosi said White Sox. Heyman still believes Harper. Justice thinks Harper to LA.
  3. Yes, don't forget that. The Winter Meetings one "insider" said the Sox have been waiting for the day they traded Chris Sale got them Ivan Nova. Pretty sweet.
  4. Deservedly so. But it will be for all the wrong reasons. JR will be called cheap. They won't get ripped for being in Chicago assembling a team top players won't play for at any price.
  5. The thing is, there aren't many suitors for this kind of contract, and the Cubs aren't, themselves, going to wait until February to clear enough to sign Harper. They have other moves to make. So do others. The Sox, not so much. So these agents have to be careful, if they wait too long, their market isn't going to grow, it's going to shrink.
  6. They paid $50k, they probably got slightly more from Texas. Maybe it will cover lunch.
  7. For the most part, they are all fringe guys. Who knows, maybe there is a guy out there like Matt Thornton, who makes a minor tweak and goes from garbage to one of the better relievers around. I get the odds are long, but it's not a huge investment if only for a peek.
  8. There are a couple of guys on the 40 man that could easily get by waivers and outrighted. If later they needed the space, DFA the guy they drafted. I get that it's probably no big deal, but you are at the top of the draft because your team sucks, and you have too many good players to draft anyone? That doesn't add up.
  9. I do not understand the Sox move. You are a team that lost 100 games. Granted, most of these guys are available for a reason, but why not roll the dice? Maybe your coaches can do something for someone and make them a player. Probably not, but It's not like the cash they get in these type of trades move any needles anyways.
  10. One thing to keep in mind is if Harper gets 8 years or more, there's a pretty good chance JR won't be the Chairman during his last several seasons.
  11. Of course he beat his wife. What I posted was what the wife said after she changed her mind.
  12. I mentioned it in another thread about this guy, but he's no wife beater. Turns out after his wife called police and they arrived, she realized her 1 year old caused all the scratches on her body, and the marks on her face were the result of how she was sleeping.
  13. O'Dowd surprised me yesterday when he said he wouldn't trade for Puig under any circumstance. He didn't like the cut of his jib. He also was stumping for a Tulo comeback. Said he was working out and feels as good as he has in years. Makes you wonder what the deal is there.
  14. It has to do with if it makes them better or not. Obviously the Reds would not do it if they didn't think they would benefit. I would think at least now that benefit would have to be pretty big.
  15. I mentioned the same thing earlier. We are after one and dones and have Bruce Weber recruiting, coming off a 2-16 year in the Big 10, and are selling everything going almost perfectly. He would need a booster with too much money. We need JR willing to pay too much money.
  16. He's negotiating. You will always hear things you would normally never hear.
  17. He's not telegraphing anything. He is just mentioning that he won't rule out a team that lost 100 games even if he actually would. He could be using the White Sox to get more from somewhere else, he might love what they are doing, and signing with the White Sox gets what he wanted. He and Harper are the ones in the know. We can speculate but you could make a legitimate case either way.
  18. He live in Vegas. So that would be about as close to him as he could play.
  19. Did they have White Sox fans pitching tents in their pants while staring at him in RF.
  20. Hahn has basically stated he is a year behind Kopech. So a September call up seems to be in order if all goes well.
  21. Maybe more encouraged, but both are most likely just a bunch of BS. The insiders knowledge this morning was most likely crap, and Boras is playing a game as well. So it should be just as before, but it is why the White Sox, who normally play everything close to the vest, should be skewered if this doesn't work.
