  1. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) How is TJS any more expected for Kopech than any other professional pitcher? Sometimes the guys who have it seem like you could see it coming for years. Other times its a bit of a surprise. We are still waiting for Sale's elbow to explode. I would think, if there was a poll of which young White Sox pitcher did one expect will eventually have TJS, not including Giolitto since he already has, Kopech would be the runaway winner. That stuff throwing a lighter ball 110 last spring was eye opening, and he at least seemed like the gun used to be one of the most important things to him at a ballpark. Hopefully he has overcome that, and by his results, and lower walk rate, he certainly could have seen the light.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) Sox fans need to be prepared for the team to be just as bad in 2018 as we have seen in the past month. Zero money will be spent in free agency outside of the bargain bin retreads like Swarzak/Pelfrey/Holland, etc. On the bright side, we have the 2018 and 2019 drafts to look forward to, as well as having tons of money to spend in 2018/2019 free agency. Sox have barely any money on the books beyond next season and the club should be in the mix for impact free agents. That's the thing, there are more than likely 2 top 5 in the draft players still coming to this organization. Another year or two, and it will also become more clear who may make it and who most likely won't, so they will know what they have to add in free agency. I just hope half these guys are anywhere near as good as they are supposedly capable of being. Then the Sox will be cooking with gas.
  3. QUOTE (rodh @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) If Beer's bat projects similar to Cody Bellinger would you take him over a five tool SS or CF? I'm torn between a more sure thing (Beer's bat/power) vs the longer odds of potential ever panning out. Also believe defense can be coached up especially at 1st base. If the White Sox think he's a left handed Frank Thomas, taking him #1 wouldn't be considered stupid 20 years from now if they were correct. But a guy who could be Carlos Correa wouldn't be bad either. The thing is, Beer's bat will probably be ready by 2020. A HS SS probably will not, and you are going to have to trust the White Sox developmental team. A lot will happen between now and the draft. It will be interesting to see how they are lined up by the gurus next June.
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Yet there is Hansen. I know they are different situations but not that vastly different that they can't be compared. Except for rehab starts, Rodon has 34 1/3 minor league innings under his belt. Rodon is vastly different from just about every pitcher.
  5. Pulling a hammy it's hard to sleep. Tearing it off the bone? Oh my, he's going to be painkillered up. Good luck to him on his recovery.
  6. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Shame on those two pitchers for not carrying a team of career MiLBers to victory. There's literally no rationality in your posts sometimes. This one takes the cake. Good post. They can't lead guys like Delmonico and Moncada to victory in AAA, but should have no problem doing it in the majors with no bullpen and garbage everywhere else, all the while, learning the major league game. LMAO. The fact is, they could improve the current roster 15 games, which is beyond doubtful, and it's still a 95 loss team. If this current roster was in place since opening day, they lose a minimum of 110, and probably more. You're the irrational one.
  7. So you tank and get the worst record, and instead of taking the top player on your board, you go underslot so you hope you will have some extra funds for a guy at least 30 picks later? Seems a pretty dumb reason to tank.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) He's trying to find another Clinton but the sequel isn't near as good. Kellyanne did the same thing yesterday. Asking about the changing Russia stories she went to the "if you like your health plan you can keep your health plan" and then Benghazi. When told she changed the subject, she said no, no, no. Benghazi is a subject. The play is so old. They cry they won the election, yet they act like they are in the final weeks of one.
  9. This is hilarious. Bill Maher had an Obama impersonator say actual Trump quotes.. http://deadline.com/2017/08/hbo-real-time-...ump-1202143075/
  10. QUOTE (Soha @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) If Lopez comes up and pitches well, Giolito maybe makes the team and does well, Rodon continues his progress....I think it's very possible this team falls in the 5-10 range next year. The SP stands a chance of being improved tremendously. The Sox had Q and a pretty good bullpen for most of this season. Since they got rid of those guys, they are 3-19. Lopez and Giolitto will have to be lights out to make this a team a 90 loss roster, and they couldn't even do that in Charlotte where the Knights are 20 under .500.
  11. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:37 PM) The Sox already have a pretty good shot at getting the #1 in 2019 without people rooting for it. I agree. Right now you are looking at a 110 loss roster. You figure Anderson will be better. Moncada will be better. But the rest is flippable free agents and Charlotte Knights. The Knights are 20 games under .500. I don't think they have the guys that make this anything less than a 95 loss team and probably worse.
  12. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:24 PM) Anyone hoping the Sox do this again next year is out of their minds. Presently, they are the worst team in baseball by a pretty large margin. They aren't going to add front line free agents. Some prospects will get the call. Some guys will probably improve, but 2018 is going to be painful from a won loss perspective. They will draft high again.
  13. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) Its convenient that 2, maybe 3, of these guys will be full time players for the Sox by the time we are actually ready to compete. The team was mismanaged for nearly a decade and there was no going back. Just have to accept that the team had to get worse before they get better. It's a part of sports in this day and age. Yes but learning how to win is important. When you supposedly have the top one or two farm system and each of your 3 most advanced teams are at least 20 games below .500, and your major league team ready to lose over 100 games, learning how to win may be a tough one.
  14. The one thing Pelfrey used to be good at was keeping the ball in the park. Not anymore.
  15. Maybe one or 2 of these guys work out. If not, it still costs next to nothing.
  16. I have been watching this team for a long time, probably longer than most here, I can't remember them ever being this bad, and I have seen them really bad. I just hope it doesn't spill over and hurt development. You can see being defeated before the game even starts has started to seep in. I just hope the guys the Sox are hoping to eventually keep, can avoid it and get their work in, and get where they need to be.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) Why are you quibbling ? His 2nd halves he does better than the 1st half . That's the point and part of growing pains as a pitcher. I don't care if he was pitching poorly or injured the 1st halves. Late July August and September have been his best months . Didn't know I had to be so careful choosing my words for someone to take umbrage with a phrase like same old same old Because he did it last year you make it seem like a long term thing. His rookie year his ERA was 0.10 lower the second half, big deal. Last year, yes. This year, his first half was a lost cause. Now is like his first half actually pitching. Same ol, same old doesn't apply.
  18. Sox score 3 and the hardest hit ball was the ground out to the pitcher.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 09:10 AM) This is just same old, same old for Rodon. He pitched lights out in the 2nd half for each of the last 2 season. Now if he could but 2 good halves together we have an ace. This isn't a knock against him. It is often how young pitching develops. Usually takes a few years . Just a cautionary tale to not expect the studs in the minors to come up and be instant stars. Injuries and inconsistency always rear their ugly heads. Last year he got better in the second half. His first year he was slightly better in the second half than the first, but a rookie, that could be expected. This year, he spent the first half rehabbing. It isn't the same old same old.
  20. He has only driven in 1 less run than Tyler Saladino.
  21. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:41 PM) You have no idea what I would do, everything is relative, back in 1993 I gave up quite a few years in pension time and took an early retirement so I could move to Florida and never put up with another winter in Chiago. Yes, but you probably planned your retirement with that amount. I am sure Shields has some sophisticated financial planners and such that have already worked the $23 million into his retirement. He might not ever need it, but you never know. Walking away from $23 million is something g not many would do.
  22. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) I know it's hard to walk away from the $$$ but I go back to pride and greed. This guy has already made millions, how much better is he going to live if he hangs around until his contract is over. I would take my lumps for $23 million.
  23. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:14 PM) As Dirty Harry said; "a man has to know his limitations". Maybe, but I think you are trying to say he should retire. If Shields was 30-0 with an ERA below 1.00, I doubt the Padres or the White Sox would say, you know what, you are outperforming the contract, lets rip it up, and pay you more. So why should he walk away from the money guaranteed to him just because either Father Time and or injury have taken their toll?
  24. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 07:11 PM) I have no respect for Shields, no pride. He stealing a paycheck and should be ashamed of himself. He brings a whole new meaning to the word "greed". The only answer is to eat the rest of his contract. He is trying. He just doesn't have the stuff anymore.
