QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) Astros continually refuse to trade their 'spects for important pieces. Think about how the Astros would be with Chris sale? Quintana? Darvish/Gray/Verlander/etc. Astros with Sale are frightening. I was just thinking the other day what if they drafted Bryant and not Appel? Bryant, Correa, Altuve. You could have me play 1B and its the best infield in baseball.

Is Liriano all the Astros did?

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Hahn said soon, which could easily mean in a week or two for Lopez Right, but if they have left his start in AAA tonight in question, it seems it is probably sooner than that. Like I said, maybe they thought they could move a starter today, and it didn't happen. Maybe they cut bait on some of their crap. But if it's his turn and he doesn't pitch for Charlotte tonight, I don't think his next start will be with the Knights.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) It would be funny if the Sox just released Shields right now, and Lopez started tonight. I think Pelfrey and Holland are more likely candidates.
-
Interesting. Hahn gave it away he is going to get the call soon. Maybe they thought there was a trade today. Maybe he is sitting in Chicago. Who knows, maybe they DFA a Holland or Pelfrey.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) I just don't get why there's still no announced starter for Charlotte's game in 3 hours. Whose turn is it?

If you're willing to trade decent prospects, you can acquire big names. Theo isn't afraid. Cashman isn't afraid. So far it looks like everyone else is.

I'm actually kind of surprised about the cocaine. I always thought that had sort of come and gone in the mainstream. I used to have it offered to me a lot at parties and other things, but it's been at least 15 years since I have actually seen it around. I did play on a rec softball team with an emergency room nurse. She once said they can tell if you have done coke one time in your life if they look at some xray or something. Supposedly even just once, you get some sort of phlem accumulating around your heart. I was always afraid I might like it, that's why when offered I always said no. After hearing this, I was too scared.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:04 PM) We didn't show up in 2012 because the team didn't do anything in 2010 or 2011 to make us believe that 2012 would be any different. The big attendance jumps don't really happen during the season. They happen in the prior off-season. That's why the 2006 attendance was higher than 2005. And really, the loss of fans from 2011 - 2012 was pretty small compared to the year-to-year losses 5 years before and 5 years after. That's really the good news in all of this. Give the fans something to believe in with a stated goal in mind and they'll actually support the effort. If only they would've done this 10 years ago. Then how come attendance was lower in 2009 than in 2008 which was lower than 2007 Being in first place for the vast majority of the season doesn't make people want to come to the park due to what they did the year before? Kind of makes you wonder why they showed up and paid big bucks in 2005 for the WS considering it had been 46 years since they even went to one of those, and 88 since they actually won. 2006 was bigger because the team forced season ticket buys for WS tickets.
-
This should be quite a buzzer beater. You have to figure Gray and Darvish are going to go. Britton may as well.
-
That was awesome. I wonder what happened. He couldn't have lied on a form or anything. That is standard operation procedure for this administration. What a horrible hire. Sad.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) It's almost like fans expect something a little better than being in first place "most of the season" or having one lone post-season appearance in the last decade... When they are winning games and in first place, why does 2009 or 2011 matter? The White Sox fans not showing up in 2012 really spooked this team to new heights. There have been a lot more people at games than I thought this year though. That will be tested during the week and when the kids go back to school. They are trying $1 hot dog Wednesday to see if that helps. So those ticket sales must really be meager. Family Sunday really is taking off. Almost 30k yesterday. And over 30k to get a piece of crap jersey on Saturday. But the highlight on Saturday was a couple of rows in front of me was a group of about 6 guys. One guy did seem like the ringleader, he did buy a round of beers. He and another guy in his group got into an argument, and the other guy threw his entire beer on the ringleader and stormed away never to return. You buy a guy a $10 beer and he douses you with it. That ain't right.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) Sox might just want him to eat innings, but they might be better off sticking him in the pen for the next couple weeks and see if you could somehow get value out of him there. Not a bad idea.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 01:08 PM) I said it elsewhere, but Gonzalez is the only guy worth anything. He should fit in a contending teams back end of the rotation. Also helps take innings (even though he won't really factor much into the post-season (given I would be shocked if he was a top 4 starter on any contender). That said, provides rest / inning relief and also those few starts he makes (over a hole for a #5 can help get someone a wild card, etc). Don't expect a lot for him, but could be someone who fits into the 25-30 range in our system (might not be though...his injury and struggles when he tried to battle through it likely impacted his value). Holland / Pelfrey are way worse and don't deserve to be in the same sentence as Gonzalez. Yeah, I don't get anyone expecting Holland to be traded. His last 10 starts have been every bit as bad as James Shields' starts with the White Sox. If the White Sox were actually trying to win, he would have been waived by now. Gonzalez has been good since he came back, and if you could guarantee that the rest of the season, he might get you something interesting, but he does have streaks where he is awful, and he has been hurt and bad at times this year, so I don't think he nets you anything to be even moderately excited about and the Sox would have to eat money. As long as they are paying for him anyways, the offer has to at least be worth more than the innings he would eat.

I read something about if you took all of Trump's past tweets about why Obama was a horrible president, and held those same things up to him, he, by his own definition, is a horrible president.

20 Year Anniversary of the White Flag Trade

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) That early September series vs. Detroit was one of the most sobering ones I had been to. First place team with Detroit on their heels and coming to town, you could hear a pin drop most of the game. That is, when the Tigers fans weren't making noise. They ran out of gas. Sale was on empty. Youk's back could take no more. It was fun while it lasted. -

20 Year Anniversary of the White Flag Trade
Dick Allen replied to palehose1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's pretty funny the same fan base that stayed away in 2012 because they "knew" the team would collapse in the end, is the same one claiming this trade cost them a division in 1997. -
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) That area is coming along nicely and is on the up. It's also close by downtown, at the Chicago River, a short walk to Grant Park, hotels are nearby, lou malnatis, 4 cta trains will take you there, theaters close by, etc. The Roosevelt/Clark/River site has been sold and is going to be developed into offices and residences. The Sox aren't moving there. In retrospect, it would have been pretty nice, as other things would have been developed around there, but it had to be a football/baseball stadium. If it was built, the complaints would be even louder.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Anyone think if multiple rotation spots open that Jordan Stephens has a shot to be called up ? He is 24 and last year pitched 141 innings but only 60 so far this year but has been pretty damn good at AA. I know it's a long shot due to many factors . Capra loved that guy when he was working the minor leagues.

And how much would you question the White Sox braintrust sanity thinking these were guys that could get them over the top? That's a bench position player vs. a pitcher who has to pitch. Very different. And they weren't relying on Blum to make them better to make the playoffs. His .506 OPS with the White Sox could tell you that.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) If a starter is moved lopez is for sure coming up. If 2 starters are moved then maybe giolito. Its getting to be the time for some of the starting pitching prospects to get their feet when now or September call ups cause the sox only have rodon and shields in the rotation next year. I could see the sox siging a veteran on low deal but you got the specs and time to see what they can do The big problem other than I wonder how much you want to expose very young pitchers to very little chance of winning, is innings. I don't think the White Sox want these guys pitching regular rotation turns until October 1. Just remember 2007 when they shut John Danks down early.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) Beyond the ChiSox bar there is really not much in the way of hotels, bars, restaurants, etc. around the stadium to attract fans. The stadium itself is not bad per se, but your only choices are really 1) Tailgating 2) ChiSox pub 3) Turtle's bar/cork and kerry South of the stadium is not doing it any favors either. Yet all the proposals aren't exactly bar dominated areas. White Sox fans have used it as an excuse. Cork and Kerry and Turtle's are too far. 2 blocks away, even though most of the bars at Wrigley are even farther. Then a bar is built right at the park, and they don't use it. Color me not surprised. If a park has to be surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of restaurants and bars, the White Sox really will just have to fold as there really is no place any state or city will build them a stadium in an area that meets that criteria.
