  1. Wednesday home games are now dollar dog days. That should pack em in.
  2. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 01:38 AM) Name one prospect I've hyped that has less of a chance of producing positive major-league WAR than Courtney Hawkins. Cleuluis Rondon although to be fair, you did say less of a chance and zero does equal zero.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) Ya but he comes out to wrestling music and does does skits and stuff. Valuable to me. He does have a Batman mask.
  4. The Cubs/Sox attendance thing also has a lot to do with the neighborhoods. The people in Bridgeport don't want a lot of loud bars and people running all over the place pissing on their lawns. They don't in Wrigleyville either, but it's already built in. Back almost through the 70's the area around Wrigley Field wasn't exactly nice. It was a bit sketchy.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) I enjoy Holland's personality...that has some value, right? Yeah, he keeps the team loose. His last 41 2/3 innings, he has given up 42 earned runs and 16 homers. That's like James Shields last season. It's hard to believe any contender would add him to the roster. If he were traded, it would seem to be to be the equal to KW eventually got his man. Someone who was high on him years ago, and now is just high.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) You find the best offer you can get and ship him out. Even a C level guy is better than nothing. Holland does have some value to the Sox. He goes almost 4 innings every 5 days.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) Honestly the fact that anyone wants him is the headline here. He is going to generate a garbage return at best. Of course, but find a guy who can't play but is fast, or is a good defender. Or some guy who whiffs all the time but has some power. Or a 24 year old in A ball who has a 9.00 ERA and walks a guy an inning, but can throw 97. A Courtney Hawkins, Jared Mitchell equivalent, and pay the freight. At least there is a million to one hope. And if teams don't want to give you that, then keep him in the rotation.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Did I miss someone expecting a big return for Holland? No. The post was teams are showing interest. I'm pretty sure he'd clear waivers.
  9. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reports that Derek Holland is drawing some interest. Holland has had an up-and-down season, posting a 5.12 ERA and 82/42 K/BB ratio over 102 innings for the White Sox. However, apparently that hasn't stopped teams from asking Chicago about the left-hander. Feinsand adds that Melky Cabrera has not been drawing much interest but could be dealt in August. Yes, it's more in the lines of, if you pay his entire salary, and we give you back basically nothing we may have some interest in acquiring him. At this point, someone has to pitch. Unless you are getting someone with a plus tool, and not your typical 25 year old in high A stinking up the joint, you might as well let him get killed for you.
  10. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) They had Davidson on the other day and he was also a good listen. All the players have walk up music. Davidson needs some walk back music.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) If the Sox played a full season with their current roster, they would lose, bare minimum, 110 games. I think they pass the Phillies for good sometime in mid to late August. Yes. Before Gonzalez on Monday, the Sox went a month and a half without having a starter go 7 innings. That guy, Q, is no longer with the team. Bad starters or even potentially great ones like Rodon, going 5 innings with the current bullpen, is no way to win a game. Especially when you have an offense that features Tyler Saladino DHing and batting 5th. Someone said this stretch could become historically bad. I agree. Any contender letting this current roster beat them is really a big miss by them. They will somehow manage to win one here or win one there, but to me, they are prohibitive underdogs just about any game they play.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) Bummer's first major league pitch was a strike and his first batter faced struck out. He then allowed a homer to a left handed batter. Mixed results and I am sure not the outing he wanted. Let's get em next time The homers last night for both teams were really smoked.
  13. Well well well. Another old Trump tweet. Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump Follow More Obama's complaints about Republicans stopping his agenda are BS since he had full control for two years. He can never take responsibility.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) It's been nice to see just cause of how so many people thought rebuilding was never realistic because attendance was going to completely tank. I definitely thought we'd see a decrease this year because of the casual fan just not caring at all but I've been pleasantly surprised. I will not re-up next season. I still have 12 games left. It's jsut a waste of time now. I'll come back when they come back. Especially last night with Cubs fans. This woman about 25 was making blood curdling screams about 3 rows behind me, for about 3 innings almost non stop. A guy with his son, Blue Jays fans, asked her very politely if she could tone it down. Of course not, she paid for those seats. Finally security arrived at first saying they really couldn't do anything since the most vulgar she was was Sox suck screaming at the top of her lungs, just to piss people off. Finally they spoke to a few people who apparently matched stories and went to see her. She starts crying, but at least shuts up. I may not like people cheering for the Cubs at GRF, but this was something beyond and it wasn't only once or twice. It was for like an hour, and security wasn't going to do anything. I was miffed.
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) If Melky was put on waivers and claimed, would the Sox let the team have him for nothing? I vote yes. I think they would try to trade him and eat money, but if they didn't want to give up something legitimate...they would then let the other team have him. Just like what happened to them and Alex Rios.
  16. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) I'm not entirely sold there's a huge benefit to having these guys with Coop for a couple months or that it will drastically change their future development regardless. I'd be fine letting them finish off their AAA season and call it a year. Give them both a chance to win a rotation spot in spring training. At this point I think I would save the additional option year and just start next year fresh. They were with Coop all spring and both struggled at the beginning of the year. They somehow turned it around without him. I agree, I don't know why being around Coop is so important. They will get to be around him all of next year.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) I wouldn't really call it legitimate, just more of the same. This isn't an either/or. I think even you know that. The coaching/experience are more important than the actual results of the games at this point. They are going to take their lumps, whether it is now or 2020. Really? Most here want the Sox to lose every game they play. As I stated, Giolitto will be way beyond his career high in IP by the end of the minor league season. It isn't like these guys have to get MLB time in September to prepare for next year. The team is going to be horrible behind them and a horrible bullpen to relieve them. It's a no win situation. I don't know why anyone would want to throw their prized possessions into a situation like that when it isn't necessary. They can do that next season, when the roster is wide open and winning games isn't expected. As we have seen in the past, September games don't exactly project future success or failure. There are legitimate reasons not to call them up, although I think Gonzalez will get traded and Lopez will get the call shortly.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Forget it, he's rolling. Typical SS2k5 response. Doesn't add a thing to the discussion just a jab at a poster who has a legitimate point.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Rookie pitchers sometimes struggle? So we should be hoping they get called up and cheering for them to struggle so they won't kill the draft order? Lopez, maybe. Giolitto will be way beyond his career high in IP by the time the minor league season ends. And next year is wide open for development. Send him home.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) Except one dude wouldn't stop bragging about all the B-list celebrities he had hanging out in his extra fancy basement man cave. Come to think of it, Danny Mac basically became Mike North at the end. Danny Mac talking about his HS football career making him an expert on all things football was a little Al Bundy-like.
  21. Why do posters want Lopez and Giolitto to pitch in Chicago in games they want them to lose?
  22. Pelfrey gets lifted in the 4 th or 5th. These are gift games for the Cubs. Baseball is one of the most random games, but they have no excuse if they lose tonight.
  23. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Anderson hitting leadoff tonight. That's something I've never understood. Does it make more sense than this Batting 5th, the Designated Hitter, Tyler Saladino. .202/.292/.271?
  24. Rookie pitchers are usually painful to watch. Kopech might be an exception. Lopez does have some experience. Giolitto, very little, maybe they can be effective, but I wouldn't count on it. A lot of 3 ball ABs.
