QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) Of course, but even when he had his 60% strikeout rate in his short stint last year his O-Swing% was well below the league average. I just think it is wishful thinking blaming his minor league k rate on umpires. He is going to k a lot IMO. Doesn't mean he wont be a star.

Reality has been punching Yolmer and Hanson right in the face recently.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) Has Moncada swung at a single pitch outside the strike zone in his three games? Crazy that he strikes out so much even though he never chases. I don't know if he has,but his strike out rate would indicate he does swing at bad pitches on occasion.

A couple of injuries a couple of trades and the bullpen is minor league.
-
I wonder if Renteria would have had the Big Hurt bunt during his MVP years.
-
No doubt Maddon gets a lot of credit for being different. But he lost with s***ty players. The thing is I am sure Renteria wants to win these games. There will be plenty he has no chance, so when he does, learning how to win is part of the process. That said, with the minor league bullpen the Sox now have, and Pelfrey not long for the game, you have to play for the big inning even if Moncada actually had a clue how to bunt.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Coop has to be so disgusted with his pitching. To be fair, the bullpen is probably absolutely taxed because our starters are awful. But, man. Usually we are known for our pitching. Not used to it. Melky 4-4. I almost want him to stay on the team just to watch a player who is actually entertaining and can play. The bullpen is also loaded with Charlotte Knights, who weren't exactly a juggernaut in the IL.

You want a team concept, have Moncada hit the ball to the right side. You could tell after the first pitch his bunting acumen is about as good as Paulies time from home to first. Team concept is putting players in positions to succeed.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Well, at least Moncada hasn't struck out. No errors. Bunting is more understandable hitting RH against Alexander. The hits will come eventually if he keeps making solid contact. It is not understandable. He has never done it.

Might be time for Ricky to go back to the mound.
-
This is really starting to become unwatchable. Even one one the few joys, Moncada at the plate they have him try to bunt.
-
Time to fire Robin.

Impressive glove work.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Pelfrey out for the 6th. What could possi-bly go wrong? We will probably get to find out.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) If the sox for whatever reason believe they need to get a Spanish speaking manager for this team in the future with all the young latin talent coming up (and a couple currently here), fine... but unless he changes his philosophy and principles of statics, Renteria can not be managing this team when they're ready to compete. I don't know what the motivation was but up2 with 2 on for Moncada, and bunting is ridiculously sad.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) You don't like trying to give up an out for the red hot Yolmer? Ricky speaks Spanish.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Ricky sets Moncada up to fail and he still comes through moving the runners. Atta boy. Yesterday he had the greatest dribbler to first in White Sox history, today the greatest swinging bunt in team history.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) They might be showcasing Saladino With his performance thus far and back issues, Saladino, unless the Sox see absolutely no hope his status should be hold.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) Nah Trayce just can't hit Probably not, and it would obviously be dependent on what Sox doctors thought of his back, but to me a fascinating buy low guy. There were a lot of people upset he was traded away and the Sox top OF prospects are still a way away. Throw him out there this year and next and see if he can create some value. I would think if Dodger scouts like how Swarzak is throwing, giving him up.wouldnt be painful. -
Do our players need to choke up on the bat more?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) And since all home runs travel 50 or more feet beyond the wall, there's clearly no tradeoff here. I see guys who do choke up all the time like Rizzo, and Votto and Bonds. They seem to do fine. There are very few that barely clear the wall. How much farther will a ball travel from the same guy hit identically,if he is swing a 35 inch 35 ounce bat on the end , vs a 36 inch 36 ounce bat where he chokes up an inch or two? The guy who hit the most home runs choked up. The guy that got the most hits, choked up. Yeah, stupid idea. I guess the big question is what percentage of ABs not choking up result in home runs that wouldn't be home runs if choking up? I am guessing no more tha 1 percent if that. I think improving the odds the other 99 percent more than makes up for it. -

Looks like the Dodgers could use so,e relief help.Would anyone trad Swarzak straight up for Trayce Thompson? -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) Delmonico played 1b yesterday...has he done that a lot? I have no idea, and doubt it is related. Abreu has taken infield at 3B every year he has been here. It really is a non story. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...some-third-base http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/white-s...-at-third-base/

What's the over under on whenTrump take full credit for the USS Gerald Ford?
-
I think he is taking grounders at third just in case. Playing the Cubs, you never know at their park.Jermaine Dye once played SS for the Sox.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Basic physics requires that the farther away the hitting surface is from your body the faster it will be going. I believe that's why people feel comfortable choking up with 2 strikes - it slows the bat head down and trades speed/power for control/contact. Yes but this isn't the NBA. Clearing the wall by 1 foot counts as much as by 50. I'd rather have the more control and contact and take my chances.
