  1. They look at his average. I look at Frazier and I see a good baseball player. He knows what he is doing. Decent fielder, baserunner, at the all star break, led the league in pitches per AB. If he could hit .240-.260 everyone would love him, but it hasn't happened. I think it could the remainder of the season. His OBP isn't too bad even hitting about .210.
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) No question offensively Frazier is an upgrade especially in Fenway. But I think the hesitation is Devers. He could be up in a few weeks if his AAA audition goes well. Lin jumped from AA already so I don't think calling up a prospect is an issue. I would guess DD holds off a few weeks and sees how Holt does in Boston as well as Devers in AAA then decides if Frazier is still available. I watched something the other day, the do not want to call up Devers. They called on Moncada last year and it didn't work out so well. Maybe next season, that is why Frazier's rental status is more appealing.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Not worth arguing over, but it is perfectly possible to answer texts while playing golf. I'm sure if something got serious, he'd step away, just as he did in Miami last week. I am sure his fellow GMs know his schedule.
  4. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) If I'm Reinsdorf and my GM is too busy golfing to consummate a trade, I'm getting a new GM. I'm sure Rick is available. It's their annual charity event, so pretty sure the GM has the OK, and would imagine his attendance is required.
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Regarding the speculated trades of Groome and Chavis for Frazier and Kahnle, plus Andujar from N.Y., for Robertson: I don't know if someone has mentioned that, in addition to the overly optimistic nature of this return, I can't understand why our Sox would be seeking both Chavis and Andujar in these trades. That would add 2 more third basemen to our number one pick in last years draft. You could even add Matt Rose to the list, as he is considered a plus defender, at 3RD, with a power bat. It seems a little like "overkill" at the hot corner. Who knows what it will look like in a couple of years. I doubt these trades happen, but if they did, so what? It might be ideal to have guys at different positions, but frankly, if all the prospects are going to work out, there isn't much room for any more. Get the best players, let the other stuff sort itself out. DH, position change, trade for some other position are always available.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) I would really like to get some of these deals done today, on our off day. I know it is probably a small consideration, but it might be easier for everyone without the hugwatch bs. I am sure Hahn is golfing with the rest of the team. I wouldn't expect anything today, unless it's in the evening.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Trade him. Relievers value is so volatile from year to year that you have to cash in when you can. The Sox aren't competing as long is Kahnle is controlled so you might as well get some value to supplement what you are building. But the thing is, his past probably hurts his value right now. If he continues to perform and performs a bit next season, that won't matter as much and he will be worth more. It all depends on the return, but you would think the return doesn't match his current production and paycheck.
  8. I do think the playbook of mentioning Hillary every time there is a crisis is getting pretty old. If she is a criminal, charge her with something or STFU.
  9. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:46 AM) I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to call this a rebuild or not yet Yeah, they were just clearing out the Drake LaRoche fans. That's why they traded their best 3 players and acquired 0 major leaguers.
  10. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) Worrying about 2018's closer is really silly. If God drops everything else, they might - MIGHT - view a .500 record in the distance. I think what he was getting at is his value increases if he shows he can close. He might get that opportunity in the next couple of weeks, but the save opportunities seem like they will be few and far between. I just wouldn't trade him for someone interesting. To me it would have to be a top 100 guy. It has to be someone pretty good. He's cheap for a little bit, and while he may be a fluke, if he isn't and you trade him for someone who becomes a utility player, you basically made a trade to make a trade. If he has his control, he's one of the better relievers in baseball.
  11. I don't think the lack of runs really changed the way Q pitched with the White Sox. The only thing it affected was his W-L record.
  12. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) I don't think Frazier represents an up grade to either Bosox or Yanks. Yanks have Torreyes and Headley. Bosox have Lin/Holt/Marerro to choose from, with Devers waiting in the wings. Niether team wants to call up the prospect. I think Frazier would probably play more 1B in NY, but he is definitely an upgrad over Lin/Holt/Marerro. You are buying the ESPN hype if you refuse to see that. He is far superior.
  13. Before trading Kahnle, I would have to study how many guys went from not being able to throw a strike to being able to pound the glove, and how often that is just temporary. I said it in the game thread, right now he is the right handed Matt Thornton. With his stuff, he isn't going to be hit hard if he has any semblance of control.
  14. This rebuild better work. This team is going to be so terrible. I spend money watching them. I get what they have to do, but I am not so sure the right guys are running the show. They get prais d now, but the were praised for going for it in 2015. Praised for what they brought in prior to 2016. Praised for the 2016 draft. Praised for the 3 trades. So far, 2015 and 2016 were busts. The 2016 draft, and it is admittedly way too early, but doesn't look like it was full of future stars, and the trades are still maybe. After the deadline deals, this team is basically dark until the next draft. This winter is going to be boring unless they do some prospect for prospect deals, which at a high level, I would doubt. They won't really have anyone to trade. Next season will be nad on the field at the major league level. I just hope some of these guys who will take up so,e roster spots show some hope.
  15. Any of the teams looking for relievers play Seattle a lot? DRob has faced them 29 times. 28 times were scoreless.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) I feel like Boston should have gotten Frazier like a month ago. They want to stay out of the luxury tax.
  17. tommy Kahnle is the right handed Matt Thornton, as long as he throws strikes, he will make a lot of money.
  18. 8 days after meeting with Jr. The Russian attorney got a front row seat at a Foreign Affairs committee hearing from the husband of Trump's Florida campaign chair. It's all a coincidence. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/russian-law...ory?id=48661448
  19. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. This guy was basically acquired for free, so definitely worth it., just in case. But in the low levels he hits like Tim Anderson has this season in the majors, except even less selective. The odds are long he ever amounts to anything.
  20. Doesn't look like anything is imminent. Frazier is signing autographs.
  21. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Rosenthal; "A Red Sox trade for Todd Frazier is almost inevitable." https://twitter.com/BostonStrong_34/status/...326468405592064 Yeah he said this on the Boston/NYY game on FS1. Sale on the mound. AJP in the booth. And DD in conversation with John Henry.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) He's saying it wouldn't cost a ton of prospects to acquire Miggy. I don't think it would cost much, but I don't think the Tigers would do it anyways. I don't think there is any way the Tigers would trade him for anything but top of the line prospects unless he really was sliding, which he will eventually. Time beats everyone. Who would have guessed Pujols OPS with the Angels would be .250 lowere than it was with the Cardinals while he still had 4+ years and around $130 million left on the contract?
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) Not sure it would cost much in prospects... I would think the fallout of a Miggy salary dump in Detroit would be disastrous. We can all see it isn't going to end welll with their payroll and aging in Detroit. Avila is going to have to be Houdini to get out of this mess.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) LOL OK A-Rod. It's a fun story but no way realistic. He's owed $200 million the next 6 1/2 years, when they will be over the luxury tax each season, and that is for an aging Miguel. Maybe he could be like Big Papi and still be great as he hits 40, but it seems injuries are starting to take their toll. Plus he would drain them of all their remaining minor league trade chips. It would cost a furtune in prospects and money.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) I was just going to ask that question. Do they actually go out and give these guys physicals? I read with the Preller fiasco each team has a medical database and they open it up for teams when they are dealing. Maybe in the offseason guys go and get them, but with hug watches and the like, most of the time, they have the other teams info. Preller kept a database that didn't include certain damning things.
