QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) If the cost to the White Sox was $12 million - that's a good but not great signing bonus for an 18 year old if they were FAs. Scott Boras wants your resume. That is more than any slot in the draft, and higher than any teams' total international pool. So, as I wrote, the prospect better be special. 18 years olds aren't getting that money. Robert was the last one.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) If it were to get them a decent prospect that is a help to the White Sox as well. Prospects that cost 8 figures better be good. Not some 18 year old kid in A ball with a 6 ERA, who may be a stud one day.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Robles will not be traded as he is the direct replacement for Harper after next season. The Nationals could dangle Soto/Kieboom/Stephenson/Fedde/Neuse/Luzardo for bullpen help though It might be tempting to fix your bullpen in one move and have it fixed while Harper is around than worry that the guy in A ball will be up to replacing Harper in a couple of years.

Why should the White Sox pick up any of Sandoval's money? That's Boston's problem. No one is going to help them out there.

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Given the Nats bullpen woes I wonder what the haul would be if we send them Robertson, Kahnle & Swarzak. If I'm Rick Hahn I'd be calling Rizzo and planting the go big idea over the next few weeks. Robles for their pick of any 4 relievers, with the Sox picking up the rest of Robertson's money this year. Then the OF of the future would be in place, and the Nats are well on their way to a showdown with LA.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 14, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Dennis Smith is gonna be awesome, isn't he? And the Bulls passed. He might be, but I don't blame GarPax for this one. He has a reputation for not playing hard. Maybe he will grow up, but you never know. -
Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) You and whoever you were talking to just don't understand baseball as much as I do apparently No one understands it quite like you. I never knew teams gave up big pieces for DFA-worthy players who are only going to get worse. -
Just about everything about him is so unflashy except his numbers when the game is over. Maybe playing for the high profile Cubs will get him his due.

Trump now says Jr's meeting with the Russians was just standard campaign practice. But they all had nothing to do with Russians. Its all fake.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:01 PM) I honestly wonder if the Sox consider promoting both guys like the Cubs were supposedly about to do prior to the deal. They are going to a new team anyway, might as well move them up. -
2020 is my guess. When they rebuilt in the late 80s, the goal was to be ready when the new park opened in 1991. They beat it by a year. With a few breaks, maybe they do it again.
-
If he stays healthy and develops like he should, he probably gets you at least as much as Q. I think though if he shows dominance in the second half, he is gone in the winter, or a deadline guy next year. His years don't match up with the rebuild very well. He'll be pitching too many meaningless games. Just about the time total domination hopefully starts. Boras gets him $200 million.

Quality over quantity. The 2 throw ins , blah, at least Rose has some power . Theo has no problem dealing top prospects. -

I wonder if Kap will now think Q is a top starter. -

I hate that he's a Cub as I cannot root for him any longer, but am happy for him. I thought with his luck, he was destined to pitch in Colorado. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) It's great that you admitted you were wrong. I guess the point is that sometimes things happen which you least expected. Is it usually a huge waste of our time? Yep. But that's half the fun! Not knowing what could possibly be happening. Otherwise, I wouldn't come to this subforum and I'd just wait, like some of my very serious Sox fan friends do, for the deals to be announced, so as not to waste their own time. You see, I tell you something will never happen and look what happens. You can send me a Portillo's beef. -
Q may get moved "sooner than you think"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) I found this one pretty quickly. No surprise you didn't find my response when the trade was made admitting I had been wrong. -

QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Dag Gum! I am getting tired of the rumors... give me a trade! I need to get work done this week.... Just consider it all BS until it happens, then give people who broke it credit. I remember around Christmas the Q to NYY or Pittsburgh was supposedly going to happen. Hahn later said no team has ever been close for Q. -

QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) I can't believe we got sucked in again. This happened every two weeks or so from December to April and we fell for it EVERY SINGLE TIME. I feel like we should really know better by now. I can't believe anyone bought into it either. A oft injured A ball pitcher who is on the brink of a promotion and on an innings count, gets pulled from a start with stormy weather, add that to a top prospect who has been inactive, not being in the line up, add that to a supposed Ken Rosenthal tweet, yanked so fast no one has a screen shot, about a possible unusual trade. Ignore Rosenthal's facebook page post about a crazy potential trade between Miami and Philadelphia , clearly it's Quintana to the Cubs. -
Did Reinsdorf sell Bulls Draftee to sign Jake Burger?
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) Watch the write-ups then of Reinsdorf's so-called "legacy" in a few years when his tenure as owner of both teams has ended. They won't seem so "separate" when all of that nonsense begins. The narrative has already begun in several fluff pieces: Reinsdorf being described as "so awesome" for the city of Chicago because he brought "seven" championships to the city. He brought six Bulls trophies to the city of Chicago along with the lonely ONE and only ONE championship achieved on the South Side over his nearly 40 years at the helm there. Certainly very impressive for the basketball franchise; not-so-much for the baseball franchise, not over a forty period. Reinsdorf is somehow being made a hero in this city because he's been compared to the losing likes of the Tribune Company, the McCaskey's, and Bill Wirtz. Can you imagine any faint praise greater than this!! We ought to watch out for the favorable journalistic license already underway to conflate this guy's record during his time on the South Side with that with which Michael Jordan allowed him to achieve with the Bulls. Make no mistake: Reinsdorf's last chance for salvaging his legacy with the Sox is tied to this rebuild. If under Reinsdorf's waning days of ownership, Hahn can manage to acquire and develop the kind of players that will lead to a level of achievement manifesting itself in the organization's FIRST-EVER display of sustainable postseason play, then MAYBE Reinsdorf's legacy will withstand historical scrutiny. Otherwise, he'll simply be lumped in with the Allyns and the rest of the organization's owners responsible for the team's sad record of futility, and it'll open up a golden chance for the NEXT OWNER to achieve what no other Sox owner has managed to achieve: a winning Chicago White Sox baseball organization. You should sue him for ruining your life. -

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) Where did he say that? His Twitter has been inactive since this morning. It isn't weird to be skipping with a young pitcher. The circumstances around this hypothetical are weird today and they were weird last week. The Cubs can promote Cease, the Cubs can have him skip a start. Why are they pulling from his starts hours before to do it? You could have made the same point last week. They didn't do either of those things though. They just moved him back a day. If what you propose is the case, can't they give him notice? Why jerk him around if the concern is his development? In the Tribune on Monday. If you google Dylan Cease, you will find the article.I don't know why the Cubs do what the do. That is their business. Maybe he has some soreness. Maybe this particular time it was weather related. I have no idea. You would probably have to ask the Cubs. -

Dick Allen replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 06:19 PM) 1.) Source? 2.) Even if they are calling him up, is it typical to have a pitcher pulled from his normal starting day (considering side work, routine, regimen, development) hours before the game for a call-up? I don't think that's normal, I don't think it's fair to the pitcher and I don't think it's good for development. Now what if I told you the same thing happened last week? Because it did. Difference is last week the media came out right way and said he would be pitching the next day. Today, the media hasn't said a word about Cease. News broke 4 hours ago that he has been scratched. Why hasn't anyone told the media he's pitching the next day, he is getting promoted, or he has an injury? Seems a little weird to me. The Cubs aren't a stupid organization. Why are they jerking around their best pitching prospect repeatedly? Mark Gonzalez said they were considering promoting him and said he is at his innings total of last year and has limited innings left this season, so skipping a turn isn't that big of a deal. -
Did Reinsdorf sell Bulls Draftee to sign Jake Burger?
Dick Allen replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 04:58 PM) This story has been floating NBA circles a lot today for whatever reason. Basically the gist of it is the Bulls received 3.5 million for a draft pick the same day they signed Jake Burger. The Robert signing also thrown in there. Most NBA people seem to believe it. Seems ridiculous given that Reinsdorf probably doesn't even own more than 50% of the Sox (or the Bulls?) And the transfer of funds is not that simple. The Bulls and White Sox are separate businesses. It was used to buyout Rondo. -
I don't think it's much of a big deal, but maybe they have him on Sunday to keep him in the line another team would want.
