  1. All his tweets are fun. He makes a big play about repeal, and then hours later, it's as I have always said just let Obamacare fail. Uh, that's not always. But a lot of people buy him and his foreign made products.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 10:38 AM) yeah but the baseballs aren't juiced or anything They admittedly use juiced balls in the HR derby. But he is using his own power. It isn't like they are throw 95 to him.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) Trump dropping repeal, says he will "Let Obamacare fail." To me that means, "Obamacare isn't that bad. I just wanted to replace it because the black guy implemented it. Aw shucks." And instead of trying to fix it, just do what you can to let it fail, and then say, see I told you, I'm so smart. He is truly a rotten human being.
  4. Melky and Abreu have taken Kershaw deep, but I'm not holding out too much hope for his one.
  5. Trump has gone from no contact whatsoever with Russia, fake news, to it's just politics. The guy who sold himself as a non politician.
  6. When Flynn was sitting right next to Putin at an event, Putin claimed to have no idea who he was. OK.
  7. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) I'd be curious to see what the question was. There's a difference IMO between people believing that Trump Jr. met with a Russian citizen versus "Russia" or an agent of Russia. Do we know if those Russians in the meeting were agents speaking on behalf of the Putin? The claim that they were probably got them the meeting. Now what was said in said meeting is anyone's guess. Considering how many times Jr. has already lied about it, I don't think we can take his version as gospel. And it was only a couple of days later the DNC did get hacked by Russia. I know, just more coincidence. None of these guys ever even met with Russians. Jared has only amended his security clearance forms 3 times. There is no reason he should continue to have access.
  8. Normally I am all for something like this, but it is starting to become unwatchable. The constant 3 1/2 hour games don't help the cause. Maybe Ricky should make it a point for his team to try to play speedy games.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) I always wonder how much stock teams take into recent performance when making a deadline deal for a proven veteran player. Obviously, you watch him perform, make sure he doesn't look injured or anything, but you only get what he does for the following next 2 months, not what he did in the past. If Frazier hits ten homers from today until July 31, would it change his value in teams' eyes that significantly? Just the law of baseball averages and regression would tell you that he's not gonna keep hitting homers at the pace or anything similar. You would like to get someone while they are hot, but there are so many factors, and track record is the best indicator. These guys are human. Trade rumors have to wear on them. And if they are cold now, chances are they will be hot later.
  10. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) Could one of you please clarify this issue of Boston's financial condition and their over the limit tax status? It would save me the trouble of researching it. From what I read, they can still pay new players up to $9 million for the remainder of the season, so around $20 million or so in actual salary.
  11. It is interesting how many people think picking up Panda's contract is a good thing. A. Boston is flush with cash and not over the luxury tax. If these prospects are a bargain for $50 million, why would they be in the business of selling them? And B. JR just spent $50 million on a prospect. He certainly isn't going to spend $50 million on another, and neither would anyone here if they actually owned the team.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) I think it was definitely more speculation, almost came off very Phil Rogers-ish. I think some of his other tweets were KW leaks though. The "should only cost a fringe prospect" tweet screamed out to me as a leak by the Sox to try to get more bidders into the mix even if 3B isn't a huge need. Right now it feels like Boston is the only real suitor, unless want to try him as a 1B (and there are plenty of those guys out there). Speaking of Phil Rogers, I watched a panel the other day after the Q trade and the question was who was the next to go from the White Sox, everyone was saying either Robertson or Frazier, but Phil said Avi. I don't know if that means Avi will retire a White Sox or Phil knows something.
  13. Cease was getting close to a shutdown with the Cubs due to innings. He is over his innings from last year. I guess they didn't want to go too much higher. I wonder how differently the Sox handle him if at all.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) Remember when Billy Beane was THE GM? It's amazing the only people who don't eventually lose all their baseball knowledge are jackasses like us on message boards.
  15. They look at his average. I look at Frazier and I see a good baseball player. He knows what he is doing. Decent fielder, baserunner, at the all star break, led the league in pitches per AB. If he could hit .240-.260 everyone would love him, but it hasn't happened. I think it could the remainder of the season. His OBP isn't too bad even hitting about .210.
  16. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) No question offensively Frazier is an upgrade especially in Fenway. But I think the hesitation is Devers. He could be up in a few weeks if his AAA audition goes well. Lin jumped from AA already so I don't think calling up a prospect is an issue. I would guess DD holds off a few weeks and sees how Holt does in Boston as well as Devers in AAA then decides if Frazier is still available. I watched something the other day, the do not want to call up Devers. They called on Moncada last year and it didn't work out so well. Maybe next season, that is why Frazier's rental status is more appealing.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Not worth arguing over, but it is perfectly possible to answer texts while playing golf. I'm sure if something got serious, he'd step away, just as he did in Miami last week. I am sure his fellow GMs know his schedule.
  18. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) If I'm Reinsdorf and my GM is too busy golfing to consummate a trade, I'm getting a new GM. I'm sure Rick is available. It's their annual charity event, so pretty sure the GM has the OK, and would imagine his attendance is required.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) Regarding the speculated trades of Groome and Chavis for Frazier and Kahnle, plus Andujar from N.Y., for Robertson: I don't know if someone has mentioned that, in addition to the overly optimistic nature of this return, I can't understand why our Sox would be seeking both Chavis and Andujar in these trades. That would add 2 more third basemen to our number one pick in last years draft. You could even add Matt Rose to the list, as he is considered a plus defender, at 3RD, with a power bat. It seems a little like "overkill" at the hot corner. Who knows what it will look like in a couple of years. I doubt these trades happen, but if they did, so what? It might be ideal to have guys at different positions, but frankly, if all the prospects are going to work out, there isn't much room for any more. Get the best players, let the other stuff sort itself out. DH, position change, trade for some other position are always available.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) I would really like to get some of these deals done today, on our off day. I know it is probably a small consideration, but it might be easier for everyone without the hugwatch bs. I am sure Hahn is golfing with the rest of the team. I wouldn't expect anything today, unless it's in the evening.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) Trade him. Relievers value is so volatile from year to year that you have to cash in when you can. The Sox aren't competing as long is Kahnle is controlled so you might as well get some value to supplement what you are building. But the thing is, his past probably hurts his value right now. If he continues to perform and performs a bit next season, that won't matter as much and he will be worth more. It all depends on the return, but you would think the return doesn't match his current production and paycheck.
  22. I do think the playbook of mentioning Hillary every time there is a crisis is getting pretty old. If she is a criminal, charge her with something or STFU.
  23. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 08:46 AM) I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to call this a rebuild or not yet Yeah, they were just clearing out the Drake LaRoche fans. That's why they traded their best 3 players and acquired 0 major leaguers.
  24. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 07:47 AM) Worrying about 2018's closer is really silly. If God drops everything else, they might - MIGHT - view a .500 record in the distance. I think what he was getting at is his value increases if he shows he can close. He might get that opportunity in the next couple of weeks, but the save opportunities seem like they will be few and far between. I just wouldn't trade him for someone interesting. To me it would have to be a top 100 guy. It has to be someone pretty good. He's cheap for a little bit, and while he may be a fluke, if he isn't and you trade him for someone who becomes a utility player, you basically made a trade to make a trade. If he has his control, he's one of the better relievers in baseball.
  25. I don't think the lack of runs really changed the way Q pitched with the White Sox. The only thing it affected was his W-L record.
