  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) I feel like he is being sarcastic Gonzalez may have some suitors but no significant return. Who would want Holland and Pelfrey on the mound for them in a pennant race? I don't think they want to trade Abreu, so really Melky and Gonzalez, and Melky may be an August guy are the 2 left to move. Then this winter will be incredibly dull. Everyone will be in their best shape and look better than ever on the field for spring training. Then the season will commence, as will the long losing streaks. The draft will occur. Everyone will declare Hostetler a genius. Then more losing, maybe a couple of call ups in August and September for some hope, then offseason 2018-2019 which will be either extremely interesting or extremely dull, depending on the development.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Source? Not doubting you, I just don't remember seeing this. David Kaplan was talking to him. Former White Sox DJ Carrasco.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Such a bummer he got hurt, he really has been a quality pitcher for the White Sox (outside of that stretch where he was pitching banged up this season). I do know the Dodgers had a scout at his start vs. the Cubs on Monday when he was stellar specifically looking at him.
  4. It probably is what Jennings is worth, but no excitement whatsoever from me over him. Offensive struggles is something the White Sox haven't been able to fix in years. I don't know why it would start now. Given his defensive position, he is going to have to hit a lot to be a viable player. I don't see getting traded to the White Sox organization his big break.
  5. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Also, i'm surprised Bummer is getting the promotion. I would have figured Clark or Purke would be the next lefty up. For the name alone, Bummer is a good call.
  6. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Wow, is there a point where we say, "Enough is enough, we can let the big league team be TOO bad"? If this guy turns into a decent player, no. Jennings has 2 years of arb left, and won't be too expensive, but he serves no purpose if they aren't trying to win. He probably won't be worth more than he is now. Next year they will probably suck worse than this, but they have to be careful because several of the better prospects will probably be on the team, and you don't want to bury them and their confidence.
  7. Jennings wasn't great, but he was involved in so many games. If he didn't get in, he probably warmed up once or twice. Now Holmberg the only lefty. I still have tickets for 13 games. It's going to be very ugly.
  8. Does he always have a smile on his face like his brother?
  9. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) It Haha it doesn't really matter as long as we draft top 3. It's all about the bonus pool allocation though. It starts to drop off pretty steadily. Yes, but if you are drafting BPA, and I have no idea why you wouldn't with a top 3 pick, most of that pool is eaten up giving the draftees anywhere near their slot, which I think most expect.
  10. It's all going to be about development. If they can develop these guys, the team will be really good. If they can't, it will be what it is now, unwatchable.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) How long has his thumb been injured? Could that explain his recent slump? It has been a while, so it is a possibility.
  12. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) McCain voted NO on clean repeal. His yes vote wasn't for a final bill, but for adding the BCRA to the AHCA bill. Don't agree with it and think it goes against the spirit of his speech, but it doesn't technically violate the letter of the speech. He didn't vote for the bill "as it stood" but as an amendment to the AHCA bill that would continue to be reworked and receive additional amendments. Not defending, just explaining. I really enjoy your posts, but I don't get the McCain admiration. If it comes down to one vote, his vote in the end, he isn't going to vote for what you want. He isn't going o be a hero to Americans, he will be a hero to the Republican Party and their fake republican leader who has bashed him for being a POW.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) He literally said "Cubs fans hate the Sox and Sox fans hate the Cubs," as if we all hate each other. That is not true. Never said they weren't rivals, just said I don't hate them save 4 games a year. I think most diehard White Sox fans in the Chicago area hate the Cubs. Every single one I know does. I don't hate their fans. I have friends and family that love those schmucks. And the BS that Cubs fans don't care one bit about the White Sox is totally BS as well. Go to Wrigley when the Sox are there. You would think it was a WS game. Go to the vendors outside the park. No problem buying a Sox suck shirt or a fake 1983 t shirt jersey with SUX on it.
  14. I think most people if they lived in the Chicago area could understand the chip many of us have on our shoulders concerning the Cubs. They always have received top billing. Back in the 1993 playoffs, when if you made the playoffs you were in the ALCS, the Sox made it. Of course Michael Jordan retires. Turn on the news, watch the sports, first story MJ, understandable, second story, Cubs fire Jim Lebvevre (sp). 3rd story, oh yeah the Sox are playing in the playoffs tonight.
  15. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) I don't understand why people are afraid to accept this. It's okay to not like the Cubs and root for them to fail. In fact, for the next two years that's really all we'll be able to cheer for as we lose 100 games a year. Most of our prospects wont be settled in until 2020. No, it's so beneath some. They need to get over it. It's a game. We aren't wishing death on anyone, just bad baseball. There is nothing wrong with hating the Cubs and hoping they lose every game they ever play, especially if you live in Chicago and have seen the discrepancy in coverage the past several decades. The game threads seem to be more intense as well.
  16. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) James Shields: 4 out of his 5 last starts have been... BAD. Can he pitch a good one today? Arrieta has pitched decent over his past 5 with 3 good/great starts and 1 really bad start. Tim Anderson has a modest three game hit streak going, can he keep it up? Yoan Moncada has had a rough start to his W'Sox major league career and in particular this series. Can he turn it around? Will Melky still be on this team tomorrow? Who knows! Seems like it will be aaround 80 degrees tonight, but it'll feel closer to 90 degrees. He pitched a good one vs. the Cubs last year, although there seemed to be some luck involved. I'm not holding out much hope of clinching the cup tonight, but it would be sweet.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Now the only thing to do is to sit back and wait for the most obvious post ever. 45 years of failed ownership......
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I don't hate the Cubs, except maybe 4 times a year. Guess I'm not a Sox fan. No one ever said that, but White Sox fans who hate the Cubs aren't all meatheads. It's a pretty big rivalry, just check out tonight's attendance. The Sox don't draw that on a Wednesday night for Cleveland or KC or Minnesota or Detroit, teams some would say are the White Sox real rivals. They are rivals and always will be. I would imagine most people living in the Chicago area know more Cubs fans than Sox fans and know more Cubs fans than fans of any other team. It's nice to stick it to them whenever there's a chance.
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) He did it to save funding for his stupid f***ing wall http://www.politico.com/story/2017/07/26/t...e-scenes-240990 Apparently he forgot his campaign promise about who was paying for this ridiculous wall.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) Cordell seems to be surprisingly talented for a "low ceiling" guy. He hit 19 homers in 107 games last year and 18 HR in 125 games the year before. He has 10 this year in 68 games. He's a 20+ HR/year bat who doesn't have major strikeout problems, is a good runner, and a solid defender in all 3 OF spots. His production in AAA this year tells us there really isn't much risk in terms of whether he's going to be a MLB player, though obviously there's never a guarantee about whether he will be a regular...it's the hardest thing to know for any prospect, of course. He was old for his level last year and in Colorado Springs this year. But it's possible. Does anyone have any idea when he will be able to play again?
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 01:00 PM) This is a whole bunch of effort to nitpick how specific he was when he used "several". We have no idea at what point Jerry was brought into discussions. But even according to above, the deal was done on Tuesday. It was announced on Thursday. Most likely scenario - Jerry brought in earlier when the JImenez/Cease barrier was broken, which could have been Monday. Fanfest was all weekend. So 3 days - several. Or it was only 2, and Sherman should be fired, because that is only a couple. This said the barrier was broken on Tuesday afternoon according to the quote I gave you, and they were going back and forth on the final pieces Tuesday night. Rick also said the deal was agreed to on Wednesday night, and announced Thursday morning. So, under no circumstance, if any of this story is true, did they spend several days trying to convince JR to approve a trade that was already agreed upon. Maybe Hahn is lying, maybe he hid during fanfest because KW was on the phone saying the old man was starting to budge. It's possible, but I don't think so. And do you really think Hahn would say it would be ridiculous not to trade with the Cubs because of them sharing a city if JR was at least somewhat opposed because of that reason? He's a smooth talker.
  22. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) I think we all just need to accept reality for what it is. There is nothing wrong with a little rivalry in baseball. That rivalry ended up with the Cubs overpaying because they knew if all the deals were close, the Sox wouldn't trade with them. The Cubs paid a lot more than any other team would have because of our rivalry. Don't be mad about it guys, sometimes it works in your favor. Yes. When they discussed last year if the teams would ever make a major move, Jed Hoyer was quoted about a tax each team would have to pay to get something done. So apparently, there are "meatheads" on both sides of this "fake" rivalry, that always seems to have at least for most White Sox fans, the series with the most interest since it started, and I would imagine Cubs fans as well, although you can't tell for sure since they always sell out.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) Joel Sherman is a very good baseball reporter. We have no reason to dispute what he says, as Hahn himself said the main pieces were in order ahead of the trade. So Rick Hahn hiding at fanfest was fake? According to this, it was Tuesday that Theo said he would include Jimenez and Case. “At that point, he expressed a willingness to potentially include Jimenez and Case,” Hahn said. “We spent the next several hours, including the bulk of the time while I was sitting at the All-Star Game, texting back and forth trying to put together the final two pieces on the back end of this deal. From Sunday morning until the end of Tuesday night, it was a pretty quick turnaround on things. But you’re only able to do that because both sides, the White Sox and the Cubs, have spent all that time and the scouts and analysts and the front office have spent that amount of time preparing to move quickly this time of year. We had that level of comfort in terms of who these players are.”
  24. When Gonzalez went into the 8th on Monday, it was the first time a White Sox starter had pitched 7 innings since Q on June 16th. The White Sox, who were 3rd in baseball each of the past 2 seasons in quality starts, are now 29th with only 31.
  25. They said they were texting final piece names all through the AS game which was Tuesday night. And the deal was agreed upon on Wednesday night, and announced Thursday morning. This story said it was agreed upon for days. I did hear JR would never have approved it if the Cubs didn't win the WS last year though.
