Hillary Clinton - Why the hate?
QUOTE(iamshack @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) Well, did you read the update to the article, which discusses that Obama once was the one looking for more debate time during his Illinois Senatorial Campaign... Prior to a single debate ever having taken place. How many debates has there been? Debates do Obama no good at this point in time while they did Hillary no good when running for office in NY. How'd that IL campaign work out for Ryan BTW.......

Hillary Clinton - Why the hate?
QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) You are missing the point. I don't know why this is so difficult to understand. Of the 100% of resident of both Cabrini and the Robert Taylor homes that signed off on Daly's plan to turn the projects area into mixed income for both a new living standard only 15% are living in those mixed use homes. The majority live no where near Chicago, their jobs lost, relocated against their will when they have SIGNED contracts to right of property. How is that acceptable? Are we going back to Old father Daly's plan to ride around in fire trucks spraying down the homeless to get them to leave now. Can I ask an honest question here? How exactly would the situation have changed if all of residents were just given a rebuilt neighborhood? My understanding was that the residents could move to communities which would give their family greater opportunity educationally if moved to Tinley/Orland/Villa Park/Gurnee as oppossed to living in the Robert Taylor Homes. The housing projects as I understand them were not a socially viable commune for long term success for those living there. What jobs were the inhabitants of the Robert Taylor homes and Cabrini Green displaced from that were inaccessible from their new location? I am not naive enough to think there was no personal gain due to this process and the "rich got richer". I unfortunatly view this as a way of life for those with political power. I also do not see how the people living in these housing projects were unjustly treated unless you are telling me they were removed from their homes and not given another living arrangement as I was lead ot beleive the environment they were living in was not at all desirable.

I did not read the Gore attachment before posting my thoughts.

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
Blow me up if this is a really stupid question but could Al Gore want to be a VP with Obama because he really thinks there is an opportunity to have a say in politics and worldwide without having to run for president? Hence holding off on an endorsement until he sees the gravatational draw of the Obama candidacy....... I am pretty ignorant to politics compared to those in this forum BTW.

2007-2008 NHL Catch All Thread
Martin Havlat is a shell of a player not just himself but any player. If he is hurt sit him down as he is doing nothing right now and if he is a pain in the ass in the lockerroom he is bringing this team with him. With the opportunities given him there should be some sort of positive result. I think if this team can end the season within a game or two of .500 I will view it as a positive based on the injuries. If someone would take Havalt at this point they should really think of moving him...assuming he is not playing injured. Which if he is, he should be sat down.

Shots fired in Harlem-Irving Plaza mall in Tinley Park
From the city down 57 that is a really convenient mall. I go there often as it is so much easier to deal with then Orland when coming from the Beverly area.

2008 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) An interesting Verducci piece looking at the rule of thumb on how to increase the workload for a young pitcher without risking injuring them and which pitchers violated that rule last year. For him, the top 2 pitchers at the biggest injury risk are Ian Kennedy and Fausto Carmona. For what it's worth, Danks has pitched the same # of innings the last 2 years, 140 each year, which should tentatively put him on track for about 170 this year. Gavin Floyd has thrown 170 and 175 the last 2 years. I stopped reading when Nardi Contrearas was called a guru.

it's like taking money from a Girl Scout
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Then you might have an insurance carrier problem. Nationwide and Allstate specifically state in their policies that if your vehicle is stolen, and you have a police report to that fact, you are not responsible for any damages or crimes commited. I have no idea of the others, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be the same. Just like when your credit card is stolen and you are not responsible for the charges. The problem is when you leave your keys in the ignition. I believe a stolen car if broken into is very different from leaving your car running and having it stolen.

it's like taking money from a Girl Scout
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 3, 2008 -> 01:33 AM) So lets say I had my car running outside (while I was in the house to grab something) and some schmoe walked up and got in the car (nowhere did they have to force anything) and just drove off. Would that not be theft? You know something that is really messed up. In that exact situation above you are responsible for any damage done by the vehicle after it is stolen and your insurance company will not cover it. If someone disagrees please do so as I have been lead ot beleive this is true.

Santana Traded to the Mets
I get the feeling this contract will be regretted much more then the Pedro one. I just get disgusted by teams being able to waste 10's of millions of dollars a season on dead weight and smaller franchises can/will not resign players. There is no parity in baseball as much as it may be touted to be.

LOST!!!!
QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) From a Lost spoiler site. The Oceanic Six are... Locke and Linus do not want to leave the island. Those are the 6 I thought as well although how they came about I do not understand. Sayid has a flashforward off the island this season. I think the dead person is unknown at this time but will be somebody that helps them get home and knows where the island is hence Jake's feelings of sadness/distraught when he dies. I believe the flashforwards are not that far off and will be brought into real time within this season or the next. I am more curious about who Kate is hooked up with than the daed guy.

Harold Baines Will Be The New Outfield Statue
I think Veeck should get one. Didn't he actually save the franchise? I think it will be Harold. Guillen may get one as well. Who are they playing June 20th?

LOST!!!!
The thing I thought was dumb was Sayid was convinced the boat was trouble but then he stayed on the beach..... The Ben Linus role was really good.

2007-08 NBA Thread
I had a hell of a time with the St. Louis Cardinals and the St.Louis Cardinals. I thought it was all good when the New York Giants moved and broke up the New York Giants and New York Giants. You see I was young and finally understood New York, New York and well............

Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 31, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) A player's salary can drop at most 20% in arbitration but that NEVER happens. You'll be hard pressed to find any player who's taken a paycut during his 2nd or 3rd year of arb. And Crede would not be forced to take a physical for the arbitration hearings, the arbitrator would just look at his stats and the current salaries of his comparable peers and pick either the Sox's or Crede's proposed salary. How are his stats from last year looked at and can an arbitrator take injury into account?
-
Noah Lowry/Matt Cain (for some reason?)
Can I ask a question and I pointed this out in an other thread... Why did the White Sox sign Joe Crede to a $5M contract when they could have waited and possibly have gone to arbitration and force his hand? I assume they have seen hium work-out and he would have had to have passed aphysical before the contract could be signed correct? At some point there would have had to have been a medical evaluation, no?

They should rerun every episode using hte format they had last night. It was awesome to see the things that really get missed.

Sexism or Racism
Racism is still very alive and kicking in this country due to the socio-economic situation of the inner city. Many of the fears and hatred as result of crime and poverty are a direct result of race thus resulting an inert dislike for a race whether intentional or not. Jesse and Al do nothing to assist in disfusing this situation because it keeps them in the spotlight. There is no definitive voice for the minority race. Obama can be looked at a face for this cause. I find sexism funny. Sexism is an emotional process related to instinctual feelings that need to be repressed by the human mind which I feel is not even possible. Hillary being a women is not why I would not vote for her. If women really wanted sexism to go away and the objectivity of women to cease they would evaluate their status. I really think that at least average looking women geta pretty good shake. I am not advocating sexual harassment and am not tying it to this response as that is a different opinion. The black senator v. female senator is all you need to know. I like Obama and hope he wins. I loath Hillary. I also planned to vote for Giuliani............

Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp
QUOTE(almagest @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Now you're going in the exact opposite direction, and evaluating defense as more important than offense. Swisher would have to be absolutely terrible defensively in CF to make up for the offensive difference between him and Anderson, unless Anderson miraculously turns it all around. I believe defense is more important than offense because of the impact on pitching. The comparison of players is Anderson v. Owens/Quintin and the result of Cabrerra leading off v. Owens. Swisher moves to left with Anderson in center. In the day and age of finite pitch counts for a game, hits that are not taken away and errors that are made create stress on pitchers and more importantyl reduce the length with which they are in game. One error and two plays that are not made are an extra inning of work and possibly 15 pitches.

LOST!!!!
7 of 10 I think I am up on Lost but what is the deal with the 4 toed statue. I do not reacall seeing it anywhere and I have watched Season 1 on DVD and am through 5 discs of season 2 without seeing anything...... It is amazing what you pick up by rewatching them. I missed the Hurley (Dave Season 2) episode and did not know Libby was in the mental ward with him.

Now that Santana is Traded To The Mets/ Go for Crisp
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 30, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Perhaps I should explain myself. Though I used a finite example, I was doing so to make a broader point. There seems to be an overwhelming emphasis on offense when evaluating a player's value on this board. Defense is just as important, if not more so. For over 100 years, the saying "Pitching and defense wins championships" has been a constant in baseball. Casey Stengel once said about Aparicio that he steals a hit game with his glove. That can have quite an impact over the course of a season. I'm not saying that offense is not important, because Casey's Yankees would always just beat out the pitching-defense-no hit Sox of those days, but the Yanks also had some pretty damn good pitchers and glovemen too, in addition to the thumpers. But a guy who can "go get 'em" in the field can be a pretty damn valuable piece of a championship ballclub. Brian Anderson did not produce at the plate, but in a big game I wanted him in CF over Mackowiak, for example. In 2006 Brian Anderson saved at least one game that really mattered against the Indians with this glove. If he is in center and Swisher in left we will be a good team. If Owens or Swisher are in center we will be average. The affect on pitching as a result of bad defense is never really discussed. Aaron Rowand and Scott Podsednik cost Bobby Jenks a save in the World Series thus allowing a walk-off that never should happened.

CREDE CREDE CREDE
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) A couple of these are huge strikes against Inge- Already signed to an extension....for so much more money than he's worth, that nobody is even willing to take the salary off Detroit's hands. Taking into account the positions they play, it would be like us trying to get someone to take Uribe if we had him signed for 3 years and $8 million a year. In fact, it would be smarter for the Giants to take Uribe to play 3rd base rather than Inge, if Crede's back were a concern. Contact hitting?- Maybe that was a typo. Inge struck out 150 times last year and has averaged about 140 for the past 3 years. Crede strikes out about half as often. Inge is basically exactly a very poor man's Joe Crede. Very good defensively, has some power but not as much as Crede, doesn't hit for average, doesn't get on base, strikes out a lot. Sounds like Uribe without the ability to play short.
-
CREDE CREDE CREDE
The Giants are on really good terms with Boras so representation is not an issue there. I would put Inge's value a little above Juan Uribe. I just do not think he is that good. If Inge is really 31 years old he is not worth that contract.
