  1. What is funny is the $40K is probably a good percentage of some of their annual salaries. Why should the bullpen coach get an extra $40K for going ot Japan?
  2. Based on this thread the season is over already. Why do you want to waste a year of eligability on Fields this year if you do not have to. Same thing with Danks. Send them, Richar and Quintin down. Then the arbitration clock is not running on them and you can bring them up next year. None of them are that polished that they could not use another season at AAA. Start Masset you need to keep him up anyway. For every person crying and whining about Fields, if he hits .200 in April and averages a K a game through May the pissing and moaning as to why Crede was given up would be amazing by the same folks that want to give him away. Why do people come to this site to tell everyone that the Sox are going to suck and need rebuild ad nauseum. Find another hobby and come back next spring when the 72-90 Sox are rebuiliding and discussions about how Baseball Prospectus feels the 2009 season will go can lead us to what we will be doing next season after b****ing and moaning that Baseball America does not like the Sox minor league system. Way to back your team. Rebuilding does not always work and is not a sure fire way to a pennant. For every Marlin, the Royals, Pirates, Reds, Twins, D-Rays, etc. say hi. Crede starting should make every season over fan happy as Fields will be a year away from the Miguel Cabrearra contract he will be staring at. Training Camp is only 4 months away. Oh wait they are done too...........Go Hawks, hopefully they will lose every game the rest of the way and solify the Rockford club.
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) So you mean Clinton, then? Since this is the Dem candidate thread, and she is the one who backed the war? Where does the plural "fools" come from? Murtha, Clinton anyone who feels and preaches you can simply leave a country you decided to invade and overthrow. That is not how it works. Sorry I did not point out that I was pointing this out as a simple reason why peolpe like Murtha should be ridiculed. I am an Obama backer. Look back at how WWI ended and how it lead to WWII. You can not not leave a country and people in disarray and expect good things to happen. You abandon Iraq now and god knows what will happen over there. If Iraq was a success Obama would not be in this race right now.
  4. I really lose all respect for the dopes that backed the war and then just feel we should up and leave. We made our bed now we need to lie in it. I love the hindsite being 20/20 of these morons. If you leave Iraq in shambles, it becomes hot bed for terrorism as there is no governemnt in place. That is the intent of the attcks now. You can not just up and leave and let the place fester. Fools.

Reding a blog there was a cool case of why the 6 were choosen. The theory was that in the end Ben allowed them to leave because of sacrificies given up; Juliet gave up Jack Sawyer gave up Kate Jin gave up Sun Claire gave up Aaron Those made sense to me the others are my speculations Sayid gave up his free will Hugo gave up $3.2M to Ben to pay off Miles In the end I do believe Ben is the guy in charge and makes the decisions.
  6. I honestly think the White Sox will take Jay Payton in a Brian Roberts deal without giving up an OF and send Quintin and Owens to AAA to play every day. Payton would be a perfect 4th OF. Now, what they have to give up....................
  7. Pop 'em up Joe in full affect. Uribe and Owens with hits. This team seems to continue to struggle stringing things together. OC with a first pitch bunt pop out......... Wilfredo Ledezma owns the Chicago White Sox.
  8. Is it me or does Rongey sound smoother and crisper than Singleton. Danks blows.
  9. Think Kyle Lohse is really high on Scott Boras right now?

The episode was kind of slow but I thought the ending was great. It was clear to me but I had to explain to the wife that it was a flashback/flashforward. The thing about the Jin story is it leaves the writer's the option of keeping him alive. The date on the tombstone is not really relevant as it just could mean he does not get off the island. Sun yelling his name is another thing as she would not have called for him necessarily if he was dead but she could still be holding out hope. Hurley as well seemed odd... The thing that irritated me about the episode was that I thought Jin and Sun already fought over the affair. Didn't Jin question this when Sun was preganat and get over it? Wasn't that why Jin wanted to leave the island and build the raft with Sawyer and Michael? Didn't Jin kill the guy already? I thought this issue was cleared up already......
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Dont get your hopes up. The minute Prancer 2.0 is ready to run, he will be inserted as the starter. No matter how good any of the other players are doing. THe florida Marlin offense must run, even in the AL I guess. I would agree with this but I hope that Pods and Erstad circa 2007 have taught Ozzeroo that while speed does not slump it does sustain naggining injuries which render it useless.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) I would go with the American car companies, it seems pretty simple to me. I know you can split hairs all over the place (and are obviously setting up to do JUST that), but the fact remains, that the American car companies pay more than their Japanese counterparts, and they offer WAY better benefit plans. The Japanese car companies are costing American's $100,000 a year jobs which include a pension and lifetime health benefits. Wal-mart is costing towns $10 an hour grocery store/pharmacy/toy store jobs, which usually have small to no benefits. I will never understand why companies who take record profits OUT of the US every year, contributing to things like the trade deficit and the falling dollar, yet are protesting out in front of Wal-Mart, as if they are more evil than Toyota or Honda. It is because of precisely those companies that the American car companies are sending their plants to places like Canada and Mexico, and laying off US workers. Silly me, I would rather protect the high paying jobs, versus the poverty level jobs, but what do I know. I do not have lifetime health benefits nor do I have a guaranteed lifetime pension. Yet I am very well educated and unless I take a public sector job have no real opportunity for either of those benfits. Sorry if my sympathies for the UAW are not that great but as unions and public service benefits cripple the taxes owed by those in the non-union private sector we are forced to continually pay for them. John Stroger was elected because he promised the union folk that work for the county nice steady pay raises. Go see the the Cook County Board tax increase to see how this funding was met. I drive a Ford and a Chevy and have never owned a Foreign car BTW. Other than taxes owed to their respective government what are the differences between an American and Foreign company. If Toyota employs more American workers than Ford can I not invest in a foreign exchange and therfore invest in Toyota (I am pretty ignorant to foreign investing by the way) and except for the payment of taxes to Japan what are the differences between the two companies?
  13. QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 11:19 AM) that's certainly far from OFFICIAL... QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Well, I was being a bit sarcastic, but you get the point...read between the lines on what the Oz is saying... To get Ozzie's type of team Owens needs to be out there. Ozzie wants Owens healthy in July not March. If they go with Quintin or Anderson as a starter and they fail or if Dye gets hurt you will need a healthy Owens. I actually read it as Owens most likely will play sparingly in March and play more at AAA to start the season and ease back into it. Especially wit hthe cold April. I think nobody really knows what the direction is right now nor do they.
  14. QUOTE(KevinM @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 10:08 AM) I would much rather have Swish come up with Cabrera on base then have Cabrera come up with Swish on base. Cabrera is a better hitter than Swisher but Swisher gets on base more than Cabrera. Cabrera lead the AL in sacrifice flies therefore he can use the bat. Swisher is best at getting on base and that is what you want from a lead off guy. Having Swisher give up at-bats to move Cabrera or let Cabrera steal, takes away from what Swisher does best whcih is make a pitcher work. If Swisher bats second his OBP will not be utilized as much as leading off. Wade Boggs was the guy that I heard that is comparable to Swisher and although the high average is not comparable their baseball skills are close.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Wow, I've completely missed this thread. I see it was started in February. Anyway, as much as I hate to admit it, I think the Cubs will win the pathetic NL Central once again. Now, if Ben Sheets AND Eric Gagne are healthy ( BIG ASS IF), I like the Brewers. And I know I'll be in the minority when I say this much -- look out for the Pirates this year. They've got some serious young talent, especially their pitching. Note: The Diamondbacks will take the NL this year. Mark these words of JFL. They were my words on February 25th in this thread but I agree with you completely.
  16. from the Sun-Times I think Anderson and Swisher are CF and LF with Burgoise (Sp?) getting the final outfield spot while Owens and Quintin are sent to AAA to get healthy. If Thome will sit against LHP Quintin may be kept around. For the record I have always liked Anderson, Vazquez (always thought he was worth more than Young and still do) and Gavin Floyd. I think this team is coming together sorry for the Soxtalk optimism.
  17. PBP is now over......... What the f*** is wrong with the Score ... Don't sugar coat it as being good what is this s***...
  18. Shelly Duncan with a hard unecessary slide in the Yanks / D-Rays game benches cleared. Joe Girardi seems like kind of a punk. Heath Phillips ejected in the first for the Yanks as well. Why is it that the Yankees and Red Sox are the only temas hat are allowed to play hard or however they choose. 1-0 Sox 2 on 1 out.
  19. Farmio working the way he'd like to best.........solo!!!!!
  20. I believe WSCR is carrying the game not sure who will be joining the ramblings of Farmio.
  21. Anyone watching Saturday, and I guess it may have been in the game thread, but Hawk was talking about Negron being the Jays 1st Rd pick in 2001 and he being 25 therefore he still must be considered a high ceiling guy. I understood his point he just seemed to be trying to convince everyone that the guy should be expected to perform in the next year of two. It made me chuckle.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Of course range is more important, but to say arm strength isn't important at all is neglecting a lot. In my book, the important elements of a CF 1) Ability to judge a ball off the bat (this will allow you get into the gaps and get as to those bloopers to short center) 2) A good throwing arm. A centerfielder can cut the ball off in the gap and could help cut down on players extending singles into doubles. 3) Speed is great but if you can judge a ball properly (Owens can not) you do not necessarily need the speed. Anderson is plenty fast enough to play center. Jim Edmonds and Tori Hunter are great at judging a ball that was why they were able to make as many highlight reel catches (it also allowed them to play normal catches into highlight reel catches). Did anyone ever wonder why Hunter was able to rob so many home runs , was it just luck???? Anderson is better than every other player on that roster at what it takes to play centerfield. I also think that with time he will be able to hold his own with the stick. The attitude problems are great as I am still trying to figure what he did other than party really good. Something Ozzie will condone enough. I am not sure what preparation he is unprepared for as he has always been in shape.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) Just make sure the car isn't made in Mexico then. or Canada
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Erstad was brought here to start, end of story. I was trying to defend KW to a degree.
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) Its not a big in depth thing. Player fails GM has to take action to cover failing player If Anderson could play CF like a major leaguer in 2006, we wouldn't be talking about Erstad, Owens, Quinten, Swisher, and the rest of them. Brian Anderson's failure as a major league CF forced Kenny Williams into action. If you can't understand the logic there, there isn't much point in continuing. The flaw in your logic is KW has yet to get a CF. Of the players you mentioned Erstad was brought to be a fourth outfielder but his wondeful spring with that of the Prancer buried Anderson after Anderson won a job. Thus Erstad, the ultimate Grinder, plays just long enough to kill Anderson's season (19 AB in a month will do wonders for a young player) and render 2007 a disaster becasue of flawed KW logic on the player he brought in and handed a job to. Erstad played until the end May and did little to produce. Quintin is not a CF. Swisher is not a CF but he may be more equipped to do so than Mackowiak.... Owens can run and therefore is needed to get on base once a game and steal and maybe even score a run. The fact that he is no better a CF than Swisher is beside the point. If this team had a game plan that they truely believed in like they preach (pitching and defense) Anderson would have started last year and played just about every day in 2006. Anderson was no worse in 2006 than a majority of other rookies and did what was asked of him, played great defense. Which with statues in leftand right was really needed.
