QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) Remember, Christmas stuff was at the hospital. X-Mas stuff is put out early, but that was obviously a hint. Very solid episode, but I am insanly mad they killed Rosseau. To me she was one of the best characters on the show, and there was SO much left to be told about her situation. Her death won't stop them from telling her story, but I just hate that she is gone. I just got done watching, so I need some more time to gather my thoughts. Is she Locke dead or Mr. Ecko dead? I think Carl is gone. I am not sure why they would kill either of them they looked like they could have a good point to the story but who knows. The Michael timeline is tough if you remember his mother said that he dropped Walt off and was gone for 2 months correct? I guess the 2 months could have been from the time he left to get Walt until he returns I need to read thsi again. The time travel thing is kind of irritating. I think Tom removed the firing pin or something with the gun to try and deceive Michael. I liked the episode but the Sayid move was odd. He is quite the windsock when it comes to trusting someone, kind of like Jack. Time to go blogging for information. Well according to Soxtalk, the next time Lost airs the Sox will be mathimatically eliminated

Nice solid bracket some upsets a dark horse final four in Pitt. Nice close to th vest grid that will not get you trouble and should win some decent points.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) I'm talking specifically the foreign policy experience and commander in chief test she made up. When she starts touting a trip she took with Sinbad as FP experience the hammer comes back. I heard this once but was hoping it could be verified, I thought it was a joke. Is the Sir Edmund Hillary conversation true about her being named after him and her being born before he climed MT. Everest?

QUOTE(Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Cesar Izturis was out there and I'm sure there were other options as well. It's not like any of those names you mentioned would be our starting SS. Regarding the second part, lets say that happens and we start the season around the horn as Fields-Ramirez-Richar-Konerko with an OF of Quentin-Anderson-Dye and Owens as the 4th OF. Then, instead of trading for Swisher, we put together a deal for Blanton and go into the season with Buehrle-Vazquez-Garland-Blanton-Contreras/Danks. Same bullpen, but with a bench of Hall, Owens, Bourgeois, Ozuna. That's a much better team IMO. The fact that Izturis and Blanton have not been trading leaves your post speculative at best. When Ramirez was signed he was compared to Omar Infante this could still be the case. Richar wasn't all that great last year. To hand the middle of the diamopnd to those two...........wow is about all I can say. Do you think KW was given the choice between Blanton and Swisher for those three and took Swisher.............. Where is Crede again, KW just released him wiht Uribe? The fact that you also now have Anderson as the starter really shows how great revisionist history can be.

A picture Uribe with a bus parked on him and Guillen playing the role of Jackie Gleason in the Honeymooners promo after reading that quote. ouch.

QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) "Milwaukee is a permanent fixture in the NBA," Kohl said Wednesday after he announced that Larry Harris left as general manager. "I'm not in this business to make any annual profits. The value of the asset fortunately has appreciated over the years. On an annual basis, it's a money-losing proposition. I'm in it because I love the sport, I love the competition and I love winning." I believe he has said it often yet the media and those that love to spend other people's money will blast away without understanding the situation. If the Sox raised ticket prices like the cubs have (33% this past offseason correct), what would hte ramifications be on the fan base. Having a bad season killed a sizable amount of season ticket holders already. Wanna b**** about owners taking advantage of a situation, look at the Twins, Royals, Marlins.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) very true. plus, i remember from the first series dvd extras hearing abrams talk about how he and lindelhof essentially sketched out the entire story arc in their first meeting. things have changed since then (like ben becoming a major character) but supposedly the whole premise has been the same from the beginning. i know some people are skeptical of this but i do believe it. it explains some of the weaknesses in the show last year. i think they got to a point where they were just kind of killing time and not really sure how long it was going to take them to get where they need to go. that's why it was so key to put an endpoint, because now they can start working towards that end. Without an end point the show is Gilligan's Island with bad people. I would bet that the outline is complete and like you said they are just trying to keep in interesting and rake in dough until it is all finished. The sub-plots I think are the hit or miss pieces.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 07:02 AM) That save at the end of the game was one of the most incredible saves I have ever seen. It would have been nice to see that Khabibulin for, I don't know, the last 12 million dollars we have paid him... We might actually be in the playoffs then. It's nice to see that he decided to show up now that the season is pretty much over. I hate garbage time superstars. Show up when the season actually matters. I kind of agree with you but I also think he was put in a no win situation when he came here as he was surrounded by crap up until this year. I am hoping he is a tad more rejuvenated for next year and him and Lalime go at it again. Habby is no spring chicken by the way. The shut-out was pretty cool and there were a couple of highlight reel saves the last one will be in Hawk highlight lore. If you saw the post game interview he was kind of b****ie (or honest I suppose) that the delay is not a good thing and it really seemd to hurt Washington. Josh Mora was like most fans, pretty excited to see the shutout on Tony 'O' and habby wasn't really going with it. Great game. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) yeah im a little lost as well....if nobody claims juan, i think he has two options...sit on his butt and collect 4.5 mil from us, or sign with another team for whatever, taking us off the hook for 4.5 mil....is this correct? No, I beleive if the Sox release him, he gets the $4.5M plus anything he agrees to with another team. MLB contracts are guaranteed. The thing is, is that he becomes a free agent after the 72 hours and if there are 3 or 4 teams that want him they will drive up his price thus KW is forcing them to take him and his full salary before another team can claim him. Depending on the waiver order this could really benefit a team.....
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Absolutely correct, I don't think everyone understands what this particular waiver situation is. If he clears waivers than the Sox have to grant him his unconditional release thus making him a free agent, correct? God for him, bad for the Sox as they eat the whole contract, possibly bad for a team that wants him as he is a FA. Is this all correct? I am not going to say this is stupid or anything as I do not know the situation but it is odd. It is in Uribe's favor and if he Sox were rewarding him because they liked him, this is great for him.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) If you look at what I posted when we first got word of this, you will see I had the same opinion then. They wouldn't have DFA'd him if they didn't think someone will pick him up. If they are certain someone will pick him up why not trade him for at least a PTBNL. They could also include some cash. This move is just odd.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) How do you know that 4.5 million couldn't have been used elsewhere to upgrade this team? Where? Kyle Lohse? Withtin 10 days of he WS they needed to make that decision and could not read the market then. Now if we were talking about Crede I would agree with you. The time frame that was alloted really tied their hands. Other then the $75M overpayments to the CF's where did they not spend money?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) KW talked about a list of guys they wanted to acquire, and Cabrera was on that list. Plain and simple, he should have had an idea about whether or not he'd be an option prior to re-signing Uribe. If they really did DFA him today, I hope people will stop making excuses for KW and just admit it was a gross error. I wouldn't say gross error I would say calculated risk. It was not like he had all offseason to make a move. He had 10 days after the World Series and he could not force the issue and risk not having a SS. If KW said we can not make a move because they are short on cash then it is a bad move. Christ they are eating a $4.5M contract. Maybe the Angels were trying to decide if they wanted to work with Colon and therefore did not need Garland. I love how people think that KW is trying to sabatoge the whole season just to piss us off. It is a $4.5 M gamble that they could lose, it did not hamper them getting anther player so what is the big deal?

What about Ozuna to leadoff and Alexi to fill the Ozuna role?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Dropping a guy when his value is low because of injury who has put up great numbers throughout the minors and is under our control for little salary for the next 5 years in exchange for a more expensive guy named in the Mitchell report who is under our control for less time and who blocks 2 more of our young guys who could very easily handle that position today at a vastly lower cost...that's not the kind of move this franchise needs to be making. I do not think Quentin stock is that low. The cub deal is offering nothing that is better than Quintin or Richar it is quantity v. quality. If he cub pitchers were worth anything, they'd be getting a look right now. The O's have some interesting pieces that while they are not glamourous could help fill the roster (bad bullpen contracts, Melvin Mora, Jay Payton, etc.)
-
I have thought all along that the Sox are heavy on the Roberts trail as he answers all of their questions. I am not sure if a DFA by Uribe does anything though as the roster spots will be opened with the players moved. I really think Payton is coming back as the 4th OF or one of those really bad bullpen contracts. There is a part of me that thinks McPhail is not looking to help the cub. The only thing this does for a roster spot is open it up for a non-tender, is today a deadline, why the urgency?????

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) They could Soprano the ending, but up to this point, I have never HAD to watch a show like I do with this one. I think this show had to be written from start to finish before airing or at least the the main storyline and gist of the island. The writers have the next two seasons laid out it is simply filling in the space and creating the dialouge. Should they decide to go in a different direction I guess they could but I beleive they have the ending all figured out. This is to hard to sketch out one episode or season at a time.
-
What is funny is the $40K is probably a good percentage of some of their annual salaries. Why should the bullpen coach get an extra $40K for going ot Japan?
-
Based on this thread the season is over already. Why do you want to waste a year of eligability on Fields this year if you do not have to. Same thing with Danks. Send them, Richar and Quintin down. Then the arbitration clock is not running on them and you can bring them up next year. None of them are that polished that they could not use another season at AAA. Start Masset you need to keep him up anyway. For every person crying and whining about Fields, if he hits .200 in April and averages a K a game through May the pissing and moaning as to why Crede was given up would be amazing by the same folks that want to give him away. Why do people come to this site to tell everyone that the Sox are going to suck and need rebuild ad nauseum. Find another hobby and come back next spring when the 72-90 Sox are rebuiliding and discussions about how Baseball Prospectus feels the 2009 season will go can lead us to what we will be doing next season after b****ing and moaning that Baseball America does not like the Sox minor league system. Way to back your team. Rebuilding does not always work and is not a sure fire way to a pennant. For every Marlin, the Royals, Pirates, Reds, Twins, D-Rays, etc. say hi. Crede starting should make every season over fan happy as Fields will be a year away from the Miguel Cabrearra contract he will be staring at. Training Camp is only 4 months away. Oh wait they are done too...........Go Hawks, hopefully they will lose every game the rest of the way and solify the Rockford club.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) So you mean Clinton, then? Since this is the Dem candidate thread, and she is the one who backed the war? Where does the plural "fools" come from? Murtha, Clinton anyone who feels and preaches you can simply leave a country you decided to invade and overthrow. That is not how it works. Sorry I did not point out that I was pointing this out as a simple reason why peolpe like Murtha should be ridiculed. I am an Obama backer. Look back at how WWI ended and how it lead to WWII. You can not not leave a country and people in disarray and expect good things to happen. You abandon Iraq now and god knows what will happen over there. If Iraq was a success Obama would not be in this race right now.
-
I really lose all respect for the dopes that backed the war and then just feel we should up and leave. We made our bed now we need to lie in it. I love the hindsite being 20/20 of these morons. If you leave Iraq in shambles, it becomes hot bed for terrorism as there is no governemnt in place. That is the intent of the attcks now. You can not just up and leave and let the place fester. Fools.

Reding a blog there was a cool case of why the 6 were choosen. The theory was that in the end Ben allowed them to leave because of sacrificies given up; Juliet gave up Jack Sawyer gave up Kate Jin gave up Sun Claire gave up Aaron Those made sense to me the others are my speculations Sayid gave up his free will Hugo gave up $3.2M to Ben to pay off Miles In the end I do believe Ben is the guy in charge and makes the decisions.
-
I honestly think the White Sox will take Jay Payton in a Brian Roberts deal without giving up an OF and send Quintin and Owens to AAA to play every day. Payton would be a perfect 4th OF. Now, what they have to give up....................

Pop 'em up Joe in full affect. Uribe and Owens with hits. This team seems to continue to struggle stringing things together. OC with a first pitch bunt pop out......... Wilfredo Ledezma owns the Chicago White Sox. -

Is it me or does Rongey sound smoother and crisper than Singleton. Danks blows.
