  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) No, it wouldn't be good at all. Owings is nothing special as a starter. I like the idea of getting Kotchman and one of the Angels starters much more. On the CLTV Sports Round Table last night Bob Sokamato (sp?) predicted and and it was a pure guess------ Konerko for Weaver or Santana and Figgins again he was only guessing but I think he may have some decent insite if he was going to make a preditction. I think Owings is really overrated and that deal I am not quite sure on as I think you should get better value for Konerko.....Orlando Hudson?
  2. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) I know why Quentin is more valuable than Carter for our organization: we're in win now mode and he can step in right away and fill a major hole. Why do people think that the Marlins clearly prefer Quentin over Carter? Because he is more ML ready than Carter and they need ML players not 20 year old prospects. This deal sounds to good to be true. The Rays come to mind. Remember they do not use Crawford to lead off and could use some pop in their line-up, some bullpen help and young pitching....
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Balta, I don't think anyone here other than you and I seem to think Owens can be a successful major league leadoff hitter. I think he's likely to be .340-.350 OBP with 50+ SB at an 80%+ success rate if given the chance. But I'm in the minority. You are correct but not for a team trying to win it all. They do not have the luxury of seeing what he can do and hope it pans out. A team like the Pirates or Marlins could take this chance but I do not think the White Sox can.
  4. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) How does making Quentin our LF make us better ? I know he's cheap, but unless he's ROY, I don't see how this closes the gap with Cleveland and Detroit. What kind of numbers are realistic for him ? Does anyone see Jerry Owens platooning with him ? More than anything he is viable prospect. If this is the final move, it is a bad one, if it is part an offseason plan than it is a good one. He is an MLB ready prospect which could fit our plans or is tradeable, which when packaged looks really good.
  5. Put him with Fields and Gio/Danks and what kind of return could be had.....hell put him with Fields and Owens/Anderson and the Marlins have their LF, CF and 3B next year......................
  6. QUOTE(heirdog @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 12:16 PM) I like the trade. Quentin has all the tools and he has done well at all levels but struggled last year. His value was low and looks like we jumped on that. Carter is not a great fielder and we can put anyone at 1B over the next few years if we only want a bat. Carter could be good too in the future but Quentin can play right now. He can DH for 10 years once Konerko, Thome and Dye are done.
  7. Hank sounds kind he is dealing with a used car salesman. The Twins GM should come back and say, ok we'll keep him. Give us what we want or f-off. The Twins have the upper hand, then can keep him. The condesending Yankee approach is great.
  8. We walked up at game time and got $75 seats in the 200 section. The problem the Hawks are going to have is selling that section. The third balcony was pretty well sold but the middle behind the nets was empty. Gret game. Anyone see McDonough (sp?) yucking it up in the leowere level/ The dancing kid was pretty cool. Was it shown on TV at all?
  9. Young led the legue in GIDP and struck out 127 times with a K/BB of 5/1. He is young but his OPS was not that staggering either.
  10. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) The Twins are doing the right thing. They see the fact that they can't compete in this division in the next couple years. They will be an absolute force in a few years when they get their new stadium, the payroll increases, and their new young talent is established. It's about at that time when the Sox, coming off back-to-back-to-back 3rd place finishes, will be trying to rebuild or another half ass "go-for-it" effort. This Twins rebuild is anything but good for the Sox' future. Just like the new parks added to the revenue of the Reds, Pirates and to a degree the Cardinals. The Twins organization has always had money they just do not like spending it.
  11. Sharp and Williams make this team a potentially really good team as Sharp adds a toughness out there with Kane and Toews amd he seems to be finishing really well. Havalt needs to be healthy though as well.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 10:35 AM) It's an impossible balance. We tell people to never forget where they came from. Stay grounded. We also tell them to ditch their hometown and childhood friends. Who are you going to trust, your new "friends" who are hangin with you because of your new celebrity and cash, or the guys who hung out with you when you were a nobody? Jeez that is tough. And what prepares these kids for becoming instant millionaires? The league has a program put together by old white guys, I'm certain that's relevant. Clearly they need to be held responsible a lot earlier in their lives, but that is not the whole answer. Here is why I think you are wrong. From the NFL Rookie Symposium not much old white guys but they are probably ttere to help with the finance side "Off-field conduct is always discussed at length during the symposium. But it will certainly be stressed even more this year, with new Commissioner Roger Goodell's crackdown on such issues. League spokesman Dan Masonson said Goodell will speak to the rookies and likely take some questions Monday morning. Goodell, Reggie Bush and Will Smith are three of several players, coaches and executives who will speak at this year's symposium, which begins today in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Professionals in specialized fields outside of football also speak at the symposium. Among other scheduled speakers are Romeo Crennel, Ozzie Newsome, Troy Vincent, Vince Young, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, DeAngelo Hall, Chris Draft, Eddie Kennison, Jerod Cherry, Jeff Saturday and Dhani Jones." You remember your roots to keep you grounded, use the lessons learned to not make the same mistakes twice and don't forget where you came from as that is what helps get you and make you what you are. Sean Taylor could have done some good by coming cleaning and giving back in a different community. He did not have to stay in South Florida. I know this is easier said then done but it is a real option.
  13. A part of me thinks that they really wanted Hunter at their price and knew it would not happen at the end of the day. I believe without a doubt that it is Crawford and the Linebrink and Cabrerea moves are part of it.
  14. Maybe the rose colored glasses are a little thick this morning but I think Danks OR Gio, Uribe and McDougal get it done for Crawford.
  15. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Not sure what this is about, but Dave Kaplan comes off as arrogant with little big man syndrome. I have no idea what this post is about but Kaplan is a pompous ass.
  16. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) And you think Ozzie does?! As I pointed out on page 9 of this thread, if the pitchers are doing their job, Copper and and Guillen handle the bullpen very well. What is so bad about this deal he didn't cost as much and should be at least a decent guy with Thorton and McDougal.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) Do you expect Ozzie will? I actually think he does do this very well if guys are doing their job. I echo the sentiment of the poster that said that this board b****es either. They may have a trade for a McDougal or Aardesma. Teams will take chances on these type of guys. Package one of them with Uribe and you may get something, not much, but something. Bullpens are a complete crapshot for just about every team. Throw 15 guys out there and try and get 7 to be decent. This is a nice move, nothing great but nice. Not sure why they didn't wait and see if the Brewers were even going to offer arbitration.
  18. I think for the same price Jones is a better player then Hunter on the field but Hunter brings that grinder mentality, sorry for using that term but I think it is what seperates the two. Teh two year age difference is huge because Jones for 6 years is stomacable while Hunter I beleive is not. I think Hunter plays the game harder and it will take a greater toll on his body. I think Jones cost more money per year and for longer years and his agent will keep him on the market until February. The Sox should really be going aftter Fukodome and Rowand.
  19. Does Cleveland still have the Korean gay porn star? They could take hot dog eating to the next level.
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) this is 2007 nobody looks at baseball cards I was using the Greg Walker quote to make a point.
  21. OC will help Fields like Guillen helped Ventura. The OC thing looks better when you look beyond the back of the baseball card and into the clubhouse.
  22. Aren't Masset and Floyd out of options? If so they would justabout guaranteed spots on the roster.
  23. Rocky Wirtz is becoming the George Steinbrenner of hockey, which could be good.
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Not that it matters, but Levine said he was positive Konerko was going to be dealt. Not to nit pick your quote but did Levine state that he WAS positive in that he thought the Angels were trying to get Konerko for Cabrera and was wrong?
