  1. The SCOTUS rejected the giant class action Walmart sex discrimination case yesterday: http://www.scotusblog.com/2011/06/opinion-...s-two-messages/
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 18, 2011 -> 11:11 PM) I like that David Tyree's opinion on gay marriage in NY matters because of one big catch. Then again I guess he's an expert at squeezing balls near his head. David Tyree, human piece of feces, willing to give up Super Bowl ring to prevent gay marriage.
  3. SCOTUS rules unanimously that the Clear Air Act displaces climate change "nuisance" lawsuits http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/10pdf/10-174.pdf
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) In an # of ways, some existential, some practical, but all real and do matter. Even abstract things like "my country doing something I don't believe in" affect me. But at the very least it made many detainees at guantanimo impossible to try on real courts because their testimony would get thrown out and helped lead to the quagmire of Gitmo today, which contributes to hostility abroad toward that policy and tax dollars. yeah but weiner's dick. think of the impact on you, the emotional damage knowing the heat some guys are packing. much more important than foreign policy!
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) Either i'm not conveying my point clearly enough or you guys have some really weird, warped view of the average American consumer of news/media. Are you honestly telling me, in a country that votes more for an American Idol contestant than the President of the United States, that it's surprising that a dick pic controversy would "sell" better than stories about prison abuse half way around the world**? **Which btw, was covered 100000000 times more than the most recent scandal involving US troops taking pictures of dead civilians/terrorists under Obama's watch. you're getting it backwards. Our media is part of the problem.
  6. StrangeSox replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) Do you guys know how much of the book series they covered in the show? Are there plans for a second season? QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) I haven't read the books, but I believe this season is only covering the first book of the series. This is correct. The first season covers the first book, Game of Thrones. There's three more books already published, a fifth due this summer and a planned 6th and 7th. That'll probably be another 10 years though at this rate.
  7. NY Republican says "f*** it," supports gay marriage bill
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) Neither. LOL. Dick pics > violations of civil liberties and acts of war, and the media rightfully focuses on what Americans can "relate" to. Our society is doomed.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) good point. just bought 100 shares online. ready to profit. you are my favorite Filibuster poster
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:40 PM) I would have much rather chase after someone like Charlie Rangel like that. No disagreement there.
  11. This is from a libertarian blog but I guess it can go here? Mississippi Supreme Court reprimands judge for requiring church attendance as bail condition Also goes well with this from Alabama:
  12. Greenwald on Weiner and our political culture Yeah he's using it to bring up his same hobby-horse, but he makes a good point.
  13. LOL, best picture yet (dynamic, can't embed) http://dailydish.typepad.com/.a/6a00d83451...ef720970c-popup
  14. David Tyree, piece of garbage and former NFL WR: "anarchy" if gay marriage is legalized
  15. Awesomeness. Terrible policy, glad to have it gone.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) Please. The story wrote itself. A guy named Wiener was rumored to have showed his wiener to multiple women. He denies profusely. He then changes his mind, apologizes, says there's nothing else out there. Then days later there's even "worse" pictures of him in congressional gyms and whatnot. And then there's investigations that he might have sent some pics to an underage girl. Yeah but none of that is really that important that it needs to completely dominate news cycles for weeks while there's 3 1/2 wars and plenty of domestic and international issues going on. It's scummy. He did a terrible thing to his wife. He tarnished his own reputation and credibility. There's no argument there. But resign? He's resigning because its too much of a distraction, and it's a distraction because of the over-the-top media obsession over it. And, as Balta's been kind enough to point out, Republicans have done worse and received far less coverage and haven't faced constant calls from both democrats and republicans to resign.
  17. Glad that the evil liberal MSM essentially forced this resignation by making this story such a big deal.
  18. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:26 PM) I just got schooled on Mario knowledge. I remember Mario 64, but I can't say I've played much of those games. I still think it's different because it has to be cartoon-like. More powerful graphics capabilities doesn't mean you need to be more life-like. Pixar couldn't make movies like Up or Cars 15 years ago, but that doesn't mean they aren't still cartoon-y. That's just a stylistic choice.
  19. Keep it classy, Vancouver. I'm sure it's part of the conspiracy, though. edit: the announcers are even calling out the Vancouver coaches for whining at the refs too loudly.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...mp;aql=&oq= Does not work nearly as well as built-in forum search functions. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) With the stability of the database, it can literally crash the site if used at the wrong time. Thanks for the information. I don't actually know what it means, but at least there's a reason.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:05 AM) Eh? You are so attached to the system the way it is that you are not even open to changing it? You are just fine with running a giant ponzi scheme? Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but your idea is to turn SS into a "low-risk" privatized retirement account.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) Ugh. I hate the assumption that just because someone gives you a job, it makes them responsible for you and your entire family from cradle to crave. I wouldn't be adverse to moving away from the employer-based health care model. The problem is that individual health insurance is laughably unaffordable to most people, so that leaves the only option as single-payer. Yes, it's absolutely an abusive power structure. You've even said so yourself, just not quite in those words. Any time someone says "just be thankful you have a job" or "$8.50/hr is better than nothing! (while the owners still make millions)" or points out how terrible businesses will treat employees because hey, unemployment is scary in this market and whatcha going to do but suck it up and keeping working for the profit of others it reinforces this claim.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:09 PM) Sorry to annoy you, but Nucks fans have a much larger population of irrational fans than most fans we come into contact with. Ill just post the links from now on so you dont have to read them, but I would challenge anyone to find a message board that has 90 percent of the threads talking about the NHL's conspiracy with the refs after every game. I enjoy laughing at them. Keep 'em coming.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:48 PM) I didn't say end social security - I said change it. I'm not a true libertarian, nor am I a staunch conservative on government, as I thought was obvious. You've posted about this before, correct me if I'm wrong but your position is that it should be a semi-privatized retirement fund, like a 401(k). That completely ignores many of the functions of OASDI and the many perils of treating it as an investment vehicle
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) It won't be the best care, and it won't be for the best cost. If I know anything about the federal government, I would bet my life on those two things. In that case we might as well copy another vastly most successful system in whole. The current system certainly doesn't match either of those criteria for an overwhelming majority of people
