QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) yeah, crazy, right? http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405...=googlenews_wsj LOL I was hoping you'd use that! It's a pretty suspect study since they won't discuss their methodologies at all. It's not a citeable study. Other studies that actually show their methodologies have found far, far less impact. http://swampland.time.com/2011/06/08/some-...oyer-insurance/ http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/intersec...lthcare-report/ It was, essentially, a push-piece.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) Destroy the system as it exists. Then shift everyone onto the government plan. The system as it exists is pretty terrible and worse than all of those government-run ones, so I don't see the problem.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 05:07 PM) Obamacare shifted people from Medicare into the private market? No, the conservative claim that PPACA will drive all private insurers out of business and leave only the exchanges.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) I'd like someone to use some of the vast financial brain power we have in this country to find a way to unwind us from social security. Why? It's prevented millions of seniors from entering into poverty.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Well first, only some of "they" are willing to do that. hmm, I seem to remember nearly unanimous support in the House and Gingrich having to backpedal at record-speed after criticizing the plan. http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/...op-reps-vote-no No, massive cuts in social spending to fund massive cuts in taxes for the wealthy to magically spur unrealistic economic growth projections is much, much worse than doing nothing.

QUOTE (dielac @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) 100% with Ozzie on this one. While I was in Colombia I met many stand up Venezuelans who left their country because of him. Chavez is a big f***ing joke. At least as of 2006, Ozzie was personal friends with Chavez. This is less about Chavez and more about Penn being a self-important douche.

Ozzie could be a fan of Chavez and still resent a pompous, wealthy American douchebag assuming to speak for Venezuelans.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Only if you want to be accurate and not a massive blowhard about it like that tool Penn is. You could be a political scientist in America and still make accurate statements and observations about foreign countries. But Penn's still a gigantic tool.

QUOTE (NIUSox @ Jun 13, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Just got into Omaha. My home away from home for the next 2 and 1/2 weeks and this is my view staying at the holiday inn? there's a good coffee shop around the corner next to the urban outfitters.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 06:05 AM) As for the person that says people arent as sad when their cat dies Yeah that's bulls***.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) "Doesn't matter cause at the end of the day, those people are still going to wake up tomorrow with their problems. I'm going to wake up great tomorrow" - LeBron James. Soooo he tries to s*** on his critics and fails badly. This quote pretty much confirms everything his critics say about him. There's a whole lot of emotional issues for Lebron packed into that one statement.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 12, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) Bobby Fischer vs. the World, the HBO documentary, is outstanding.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) I responded to that already, its like saying Rose is Merlin because he has got a wizard on his arm. Stop making this terrible argument.

Gov. Walker's war on craft beer: http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/06/1...sin-craft-beer/ Now if he starts taxing sausage and cheese, we'll likely have a bloody revolution just north of our border.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 11, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) you just answered your own question owned

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) Dogs eat their own s***. If this is a sign of intelligence then I'm glad I went with dumb cats that don't have breath that smells like s***. My cat's breath smells like cat food. Which is to say, it smells terrible. Most dogs don't eat their own s***, it's a nutritional problem generally if they do.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 10, 2011 -> 12:36 AM) Don't get me wrong, LeBron needs to play better but he didn't disappear in the 4th quarter tonight like he did in game 4. He still needs to be more assertive and attack the basket more when his jumper isn't dropping like the last couple of games but he was really good at creating easy looks for his teammates in the 4th quarter tonight. Completely different performance from his complete no show in game 4. LeBron's had a total of 11 4th quarter points in the finals. Like I said,he's supposed to be the best player on the court/planet, he needs to do better than that.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) I'm pretty sure cats are generally though of as smarter than dogs, but I'm too lazy to find research to back it up I'm pretty sure its objectively true that dogs are more intelligent than cats.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I don't know where else to post this, but I find it to be a disturbing indictment of our current culture... So, there is this huge wildfire burning in Arizona. Its a monster fire, burned like 400,000 acres so far, and keeps going. Approaching some towns now. CNN interviews a resident of one of the towns and his family, who are packing up a couple pickup trucks with everything they can fit to leave. Not everything fits of course. Their choices? --X-Box makes the cut, same with the dog --What doesn't make the cut and stays to burn: family photos, and the cat So... the X-box, easily replaceable, can go... but the irreplaceable family photos, and the LIVING THING, are left to burn? Seriously? WTF is wrong with people? Article There's a whole chapter in World War Z (post-zombie war Studz Terkal style oral history, awesome with lots of contemporary commentary) that describes similar choices made by people fleeing for survival: modern comfort/entertainment devices instead of survival/important things.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) He no showed the 4th quarter of game 4 but he didn't tonight. His passing was exceptional in the 4th quarter as all of his assists lead directly to layups or dunks and the Heat were running everything through Wade not LeBron tonight so he wasn't going to score a ton. You're supposed to be the best player on the court if not the world. You need to score more than 2 garbage-minute points in the 4th.
-
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 10:55 PM) So a bad decision ceases to be a bad decision if the game is eventually won? You're sounding like greg now, Balta. Yeah, you can win in spite of bad management.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) He's done a phenomenal job of not over-reacting like a bunch of nut jobs here and staying calm and as a result the players responded. Ozzie has a tremendous ability to try and put his players in the best chance to succeed. That might not be in-game managing but it is an art that he has managed exceptionally, well, imo. And I know someone will now make a bunch of posts about how Kotsay being DH was a position he couldn't excel at, but by and large, Ozzie has done that and you'll hear a lot of his current and former players allude to that. Ozzie understands how up and down the game of baseball is and he isn't going to overreact to things too often. I have problems with some of his ridiculous comments and some of the things he does, but by and large, he's a good manager. The question to me is at some point, players tune guys out or maybe just need to hear another voice, and when that type comes, it comes. It will happen to pretty much every mgr and coach. awesome satire!

Wow, Lebron had a triple-double? ESPN nailed it by calling it the "quietest triple-double in a big game you've ever seen"
