  1. Under KW's tenure the Sox are 857-781, not sure why I shifted to Ozzie. That's a .523 average or about 85 games still. here's an article from 2009 with GM winning percentages going back to 1989 http://www.realclearsports.com/blognetwork...--part-one.html
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) Most places won't care if you're not regularly posting the entire article...if that all you do they'll get annoyed...but the most important thing for them is a link, since the Google crawler will see the link and it'll push them upwards. I'm pretty sure it's still a violation of Fair Use and subject to copyright infringement, but it generally isn't worth prosecuting. I think you're only supposed to post the first and maybe second summary paragraphs, unedited, and with a link.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:44 AM) For the most part people include links in their posts, so we don't really have a problem with that. The things that can get Soxtalk into legal trouble, we do follow up on. The rest of it is definately different. FWIW I'm pretty sure the copyright rules are broken here (and just about everywhere) frequently, you're only supposed to post a paragraph or two, not an entire article.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) Before anyone askes, Gardenhire checks in at 88.8. I would venture a guess that a 89 will get you into the playoffs a lot more frequently than 85.
  5. The Sox have the fifth highest win percentage in the AL since 2004 behind the yankees, red sox, angels and twins.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Yes it is. That's why the overall record is 335-331 in the initial post. He dumped off all of the best years. No, it absolutely is not left out of this post which I was replying to: QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Removing the outlier of 2007 and looking at the W/L since Ozzie has been manager, the Sox record is 528-445. That's 83 games over 500. That's an average season of 88-74. Fire Ozzie. Here's the record under ozzie. 2004 83-79 2005 99-63 2006 90-72 2007 72-90 2008 89-74 2009 79-83 2010 88-74 2011 7-10 Which leads to this: QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) No it hasn't. The Sox are 607-545 (.527) under Guillen including this year. Removing both 2007 and 2005, they're 436-392 (.527). Removing only 2007 they're 535-455 (.540). I included 2011, he didn't, which is why we have slightly different numbers, but Anderson took every year 2004-2010 except 2007.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:20 PM) 2005-2006? That's already been removed. No it hasn't. The Sox are 607-545 (.527) under Guillen including this year. Removing both 2007 and 2005, they're 436-392 (.527). Removing only 2007 they're 535-455 (.540).
  8. QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) Removing the outlier of 2007 and looking at the W/L since Ozzie has been manager, the Sox record is 528-445. That's 83 games over 500. That's an average season of 88-74. Fire Ozzie. If you're removing the low-side outlier, you gotta remove the high side outlier as well.
  9. Texas is burning "border to border" http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0420/Tex...ont-lifts-hopes
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) See, I'm on my ipad most of the time if I am sitting somewhere. My phone is just there for calls and texts and the occasional read on the internet. To be honest, I am making a conscious effort to try and look at my phone less, especially after I went into a bar the other day and literally saw everyone staring down at their phones instead of talking and I realized how ridiculous it is. I may downgrade to pager/pay phone. My favorite is when that happens at a concert or a movie.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 12:09 PM) Animated wallpaper is useless but there are some great customized home screens in that thread. There is probably some value for some people to having the only version of something on their phone to be different and I can respect that. It still comes down to the hardware being able to function as an ipod as well as with ipod docks and car connectors that will keep me from moving over, but I can see some value in the customization. the ipod's network effects are huge in that regard
  12. And every fanbase is going to have a meltdown when it happens. Sox winning some games will shut some people up as it always does.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) Worst fans in hockey. You would think an expansion team with no Cup wins would be a little less irritating. And BTW, the Hawks didnt actually beat them last night, the refs did. The refs missed almost 50 calls against the Hawks in case you were wondering. http://forum.canucks.com/forum/24-canucks-talk/ They were just as bad last year.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) ARGH
  15. Steve, you see this yet?!? http://www.nba.com/bulls/stacey-king-soundboard.html
  16. Go Sox! My biggest problem right now is that I was really excited for this season to start, so I'm even more disappointed with the current record. I'm not writing this team off, though.
  17. People have been b****ing about KW and Ozzie since at least the end of the 2006 season. It's an annual SoxTalk tradition, just like the FIRE WALKER!, BLOW THIS TEAM UP! and WE'RE NOT DEAD YET! threads
  18. LOL we should get the mods to make a sub forum for all of the EVERYTHINGS FINE NO ONE SHOULD EVER BE REPLACED EVEN AFTER YEARS OF FAILURE AND THE SAME MISTAKES posts. Could probably even run a script to catch all the blue sky garbage posts and not waste mods' time!
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 07:37 AM) Really? Outside of Crain, who in this bullpen is not underperforming where they should be? Sale had a couple bad outings but is looking a little better, Thornton's clearly underperforming, Ohman is well below his career points, even Pena is worse than usual. Bullpens can be pretty volatile and it's no uncommon for a guy to fall off a cliff one year to the next. That said, I did overstate my case there. I think they'll be better than their terrible start so far, but I've no reason to expect them to be good or even above average.
  20. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Yes, a bullpen meltdown that couldn't possibly get any worse than it is now.. what are we at, 6 blown saves? and they all pretty much came at once.. With as long as the season is you have to look at certain situations like that and realize that its not going to be the norm.. I've no confidence in this bullpen and no reason to expect them to get better all of a sudden. You missed the point. You pointed to last year when they had a terrible start but still won 88 games. I pointed out that it took a fantastic 5 or 6 weeks of baseball to accomplish that and they still missed the playoffs. Outside of that stretch that started in early June and ended right around the AS break, the team was boring and very difficult to watch at times.
  21. QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Well, for one 7-10 is not a horrendous start Secondly, a 25-5 run is deserved and not an accident.. that's why it rarely happens.. they got hot at a good time I feel like we are 3-14 around here We are in the middle of a six-game losing streak and an early bullpen meltdown, plus more bad news about Peavy. Not exactly much to get excited for right now. I didn't say that they didn't play their asses off in the 25-5 run, just that it's not something to count on, and even with that, they missed the playoffs. Again.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) See? This is the kind of s*** I'm talking about. The White Sox have started 7-10 and people are calling for the GM's head and the manager's head. Why use 2007 and not 2006? Or why not start at 2008? Of course, because you're cherry picking statistics and are trying to prove a point. They're 425-403 since 2006. That's a .513 winning percentage. They're 263-241 since 2008. That's a .522 winning percentage. Instead of having good discussions about the White Sox, let's just propose firing everybody instead because that doesn't make you look like the stereotypical fairweather fan when they're losing. I can guarantee you won't be singing this tune when they start winning. A .513 winning percentage is pretty mediocre. .522 might sneak you in in a bad division. It's about 5 years of frustrations, many of them repeated, that are causing all of the reactions right now, not one 7-10 start.
